Edifier TWS5 Review: Sound similar to Sabbat E12 Ultra

After a positive review of Edifier TWS1, I decided to test the older brother in the class, namely Edifier TWS5.

In the review, I will share my opinion about the new wireless earbuds, I will talk about the main advantages and disadvantages.

The prices for the new generation Edifier TWS5 are almost two times higher than for TWS1 and now you can buy earbuds for about $ 60.

For this price, you will get good autonomy on a single charge, touch control, the presence of Qualcomm QCC3026 chip and support for aptX codec. In addition, Edifier wireless earbuds are well suited for sports, as they have IPX5 standard water protection.

Will the new generation surprise me? It is generally worth overpaying almost $ 30 higher than for the first generation, I will tell in more detail in the review below.

Edifier TWS5: Unboxing

A small box has dense cardboard, so during transportation, all components will definitely arrive in a working condition. On the front, I see the name of the model and the pattern of the earbuds.

On the back of the box, you can read the main technical specifications.

Inside the box, I found a charging case with earbuds that lay separately in special protective places. Also, I saw three sets of silicone ear pads, Micro USB charging cable and instructions for use.

Like the first generation TWS1, the new TWS5 comes with an old Micro USB port for charging – this made me very upset because the price does not correspond to the budget class. Otherwise, I liked the quality of the materials used, namely silicone earpads have a pleasant and soft material.

Edifier TWS5: Design

A regular reader may recall that the first TWS1 model was white, and now a new generation of TWS5 has come to me for testing in black.

Of course, like the first one, the case of the Edifier TWS5 earbuds is made of glossy black plastic, which looks interesting and bright. But as practice shows, black gloss strongly leaves fingerprints than even that same white gloss. If you look at the online store, then the TWS5 model is available only in black and this is a little annoying since the user will not be able to choose the color he needs.

I have no complaints about the quality of the assembly and materials, everything was assembled perfectly precisely and how it meets the expectations for its price.

The form factor of the TWS5 model has a similar appearance as the first generation TWS1. This is the same drop-shaped volumetric case, which looks a bit awkward.

I was also a little surprised by the size of the earbuds, as they are bulky and if you compare with Redmi AirDots, then the latter seem generally dwarf.

Although, I want to note that the earbuds fit perfectly in my ears, even despite their large sizes. But if your ears are not so big or you are a girl, then I will have doubts about the comfort of wearing.

On the front side is the company logo, touch control and LED indicator. Immediately, I note that one of the minuses is that the indicator in the working state blinks every 5 seconds and the brightness of the LED itself is quite strong.

The inside of the earbud has three pins with a magnetic connection and a headphone channel designation.

The sound guide is long enough and the earphones sit firmly in the ear canal, so even when running, you should not worry that new plugs will be lost during a run. Based on the sound guide, you can find a mesh that protects the earbuds from harmful debris and dirt.

The manufacturer Edifier did not miss the moment with water protection and the new generation received the IPX5 standard. You can not be afraid of heavy rain or sweat during activities.

The charging case has already received matte material, and not glossy like earbuds. I didn’t have any questions about the build quality, the lid has two positions and it does not stagger and does not play.

The front part has three LED indicators for the charge level of the box, and on the back, they installed the old micro-USB port.

I don’t want to criticize the case very much, but the manufacturer set the price of the earbuds, not $ 30, but still $60, so I would like to see a Type-C connector here, and there’s a huge minus.

In general, the appearance of the new Edifier TWS5 may not suit every user, but the build quality and materials are at a high level.

Edifier TWS5: Connection and Control

Like any wireless headphones in 2019, Bluetooth is not indispensable with version 5.0, so the Edifier TWS5 is equipped with this version.

Another feature is the presence of a Qualcomm QCC3026 chip and support for the aptX codec, so the signal and communication quality throughout the test was excellent.

The connection is the same as all wireless headphones. You need to remove the earbuds from the case, and then go to the Bluetooth section on the smartphone and connect to TWS5.

The control of the multifunctional touch panel is simple and elementary. For example, with one-touch – play/pause and also accept/put a call. With a double-tap – switch tracks forward or backward depending on the channel. This is where the functionality ends and the Edifier TWS5 earbuds do not support volume control.

Edifier TWS5: Sound

The most important section that may interest many users. Edifier is proud that the new TWS5 has received a 6mm bio-diaphragm driver.

Honestly, yes the sound quality is at a high level if we talk about low frequencies. They have good dynamics and the right timbre. Another plus for me and for many users is the availability of good and most importantly dense bass.

The mid frequencies have an ideal combination of sound, musical instruments play approximately and distinctly legible. The high frequencies are not overwhelmed and even at maximum volume do not have annoying noises.

I think the sound quality is very comparable to the Sabbat E12 Ultra and it’s quite possible to listen to music from almost all genres.

The microphone quality is not the worst and I want to note that even in noisy places, noise reduction copes with the tasks well.

Edifier TWS5: Battery

Each Edifier TWS5 earbud was equipped with 60 mAh capacitive batteries and, according to the manufacturer, the autonomy will be about 8 hours.

Edifier TWS5 Review: Sound similar to Sabbat E12 Ultra

During our test, the TWS5 model worked at maximum volume for about 7 hours and 30 minutes. Indeed, this is a record holder for battery life on a single charge.

Inside the box, there is an additional 500 mAh and you can definitely charge the earbuds at least twice, that’s for sure.

The charging time via micro-USB port was about 1.5 hours.

Edifier TWS5: Conclusions and Reviews

Undoubtedly, the Edifier TWS5 earbuds have an indefinite impression. If compared with the first generation Edifier TWS1, then TWS5 received minor changes, so I do not see the point of overpaying for a new model.

Edifier TWS5 Review: Sound similar to Sabbat E12 Ultra

I wanted to go around the minuses, the TWS5 earbuds got quite large sizes, so not every client will be able to fit. The presence of a micro USB port causes negative emotions, I would also like to get volume control.

Edifier TWS5 Review: Sound similar to Sabbat E12 Ultra

Pluses are also present and I can relate to them – this is a high-quality assembly of materials, responsive touch control, good sound, and microphone quality. The battery life on a single charge is quite large but less than the younger model TWS1.

Edifier TWS5: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

Now you can buy Edifier TWS5 earbuds for $63.99 with a 20% discount.

Of course, if you want to get better sound quality than on TWS1, then I advise you to overpay and take TWS5.
