Doogee has introduced a budget inexpensive rugged smartphone called Doogee S58 Pro.
I have previously tested two rugged smartphones from Doogee. These were the S68 Pro and S88 Pro models. The new S58 Pro is the younger version of its two predecessors. You might think that the number 58 says that the model was released a long time ago and is already old. Actually, it will be presented in the summer of 2020.
The price tag for the Doogee S58 Pro rugged phone is very attractive – it is $130. And for this price, you will get good technical specs.
For example, I can attribute to the features – this is a compact size due to its small size 5.71 inches, a fully protected case with IP68/IP69K standards, 6 and 128 GB of memory, an Helio P22 processor, an NFC module, and 5180h battery capacity
If you’ve been looking for an inexpensive rugged smartphone for a long time, then the Doogee model might be a good choice. But let’s first check how the smartphone will show itself from a practical point of view, and then draw final conclusions.

Unboxing and packaging
The rugged smartphone comes in a fairly large square box. The front of the box only has the model and company name.
Inside the box are the smartphone itself and many accessories. Such as strap, Type-C charging cable, 3.5mm to Type-C adapter, and power adapter. In addition, there is an envelope with documentation and a manufacturer’s warranty, and even a protective film for the screen.
Another interesting feature is the scraper for the easy installation of the SIM card. In general, the equipment is very solid and, given its low cost, there is everything you need and even more.
Design, build quality and materials
The appearance of Doogee S58 Pro is made in a traditional style as for a rugged smartphone. The device is made of metal and rubberized material. The smartphone lies well in your hands and will definitely not slip out of your hands by accident.
It is also worth noting that the side edges also have rubber corners that protect the device well from accidental drops. As the manufacturer assures, the smartphone is not afraid of falling onto any hard surface from a height of up to 1.5 meters.
Also, the smartphone has full protection against water under the IP68 and IP69K standards. Thus, the S58 Pro model will not be afraid of water, but up to a depth of 2 meters.
On the back of the smartphone is a metal island for a fingerprint scanner. There are also triple main camera sensors with LED flash. There is one speaker at the bottom. The sound quality is not the highest and quality, but I’m glad that the sound level is quite loud. Therefore, you can easily hear phone calls or notifications in noisy places.
On the right side, there is a volume rocker and a power button. At the opposite end, there is a custom button for any function, such as activating the SoS button, flashlight, or other actions. In addition, a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and a memory card was installed on the left side.
At the bottom, there is a plug under which the Type-C charging connector is hidden. Near the port, there is a special attachment for the cord, which is supplied in the kit.
The front side of the smartphone received a small 5.71-inch screen when comparing everyday measurements. Usually, a modern smartphone has a screen size of 6.3 inches. As for a rugged smartphone, the frames around the screen are quite large and this is not a strong drawback.
As for the resolution, the screen received only HD + or 1520 x 720 pixels. At the same time, the pixel density is sufficient for everyday use. A pretty good IPS matrix is used here and the color rendition is good for a budget smartphone.
The brightness of the screen was 480 nits and as for an inexpensive smartphone, this is a good indicator. In a very strong and bright sun, readability will not be the best, but in cloudy weather, reading messages or watching videos will be comfortable.
At the top of the screen is a waterdrop notch for the front camera. Near the selfie camera, there is an earpiece and a notification LED.
I would also like to talk about weight. The Doogee S58 Pro weighs about 284 grams. This is quite a lot of weight. But considering that this is a rugged smartphone with large battery capacity, this is a typical weight for this class of devices.
Performance, benchmarks, and OS tests
Most rugged smartphones are made for non-gaming purposes, so the processor in the Doogee S58 Pro is also primitive. This is the Helio P22 chipset, which works with eight cores and has a maximum operating frequency of 2.0 GHz.
As for simple tasks, this processor is quite enough, but for demanding games, you need to look for something more powerful. In addition, there is also not the most productive graphics accelerator installed here – IMG GE8320. To be honest, this is the first time I’ve heard of such a model.
On the other hand, manufacturer Doogee has installed 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In addition, the device has support for memory cards up to 256 GB. Therefore, you will definitely not have problems with the amount of memory.
The Doogee S58 Pro runs on the Android 10 operating system and has an almost clean user interface. There are already installed Google applications, such as the Play Store, YouTube, and others.
The user interface works quite smartly, and the number of open applications does not affect performance. Since the smartphone received 6 GB of RAM.
Other important features are Bluetooth with version 5.0, NFC for contactless payment, Wi-Fi with dual networks, and fast GPS.
Camera and sample photos
Doogee S58 Pro has three rear cameras. The main sensor is SONY IMX298, which received a 16-megapixel resolution with an f/2.0 aperture. It has no optical stabilization.
The second sensor has a 2-megapixel resolution and is intended for portrait shots. The third module has a 0.3-megapixel resolution for macro photography.
The front camera uses a 16-megapixel resolution with an f/2.0 aperture. I can note that selfies are pretty good thanks to the Samsung S5K3P3-DIE-SM sensor.
In the application menu, you can find modes such as panorama, video, photo, beauty, portrait, macro, and others. Below I will leave sample photos of Doogee S58 Pro and you can analyze their quality.
Battery and run time
Inside the body of the Doogee S58 Pro, a battery with a capacity of 5180 mAh is installed. As my practice has shown, a smartphone can work from 2 to 3 days with active use.
Since there is a screen with HD resolution, the power consumption will be minimal and not as high as that of a Full HD screen.
Full charge time via Type-C port and 18W adapter will be up to 2 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Doogee S58 Pro is a good rugged smartphone for its low cost. It received many positive aspects.
First of all, it has a sturdy appearance with good materials to work with. The smartphone is not afraid of falls and even water. So if you work in difficult conditions, then a budget rugged smartphone is a good choice.
Also, I can’t get past features like screen quality, global firmware performance, and even battery life. All of these indicators are positive.
On the negative side, I can note that these are the main camera sensors such as macro. The 0.3-megapixel sensor works very poorly and the quality of macro photos is poor. Also, the dimensions and weight of the smartphone are slightly larger than that of an everyday smartphone.
