For a long time I have not tested ultra-budget wireless earbuds, but today I will correct. Many of my regular readers are familiar with the Chinese company Doogee offers various smartphones. But today we will talk about new wireless earbuds called Doogee Dopods.
I also want to mention that on March 27, Aliexpress will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Therefore, on this day you can buy various devices at a low price. Currently, the price tag for Doogee Dopods is $23, and on March 27 the price will be even lower.
On the technical side, Doogee wireless earbuds look pretty good. The Dopods model offers Qualcomm QC3020 chipset, touch control, fast pairing, Bluetooth 5.0 and even IPX5 water protection.
My personal experience in the Doogee smartphone category is not the most positive. But as the earbuds from the Doogee brand show themselves, let’s find out in a detailed review.
Doogee Dopods: Specifications
|Driver unit:||6mm Dynamic Drivers|
|Bluetooth protocol:||aptX, AAC, and SBC|
|Charging Time:||90 min|
Doogee Dopods: Unboxing
The Doogee earbuds come in a white box, but the cardboard is pretty thick and sturdy.
On the front side, there is a sketch of the earbuds and the name of the company. On the back of the box are the main technical features. Interesting features from the list are the availability of Qualcomm QC3020 chip with support for aptX codec.
Inside the box, I found – a charging case with earbuds inside, an additional two sets of silicone ear tips, instructions and the most interesting thing is the Type-C cable!
Of course, the quality of ear tips is not the highest and the first thing to do is to replace them with more expensive ones, if possible. But the Type-C connection for charging is a big bonus, considering its price in the region of $20.
Doogee Dopods: Design
The plastic of the charging box at Doogee Dopods is made of matte material, which is pretty good for its class. It is not easily soiled and does not leave fingerprints, such as glossy.
The иuild quality is good, all gaps are even. Although the case cover itself is a little loose, which is typical for budget wireless earbuds.
Also, I would like to note that the lid received a magnetic connection and opens with one hand without any problems. Another important factor when choosing earbuds is weight and size. In the case of Doogee Dopods, you will have no difficulty putting the charging box in your jeans pocket.
On the front side, there is a single LED indicator of the charge level, and on the opposite side, there is a Type-C connector for charging.
The earbuds themselves are mounted in the charging box due to the magnetic connection. During the test, Dopods did not fall off the seats and held firmly and securely. But the first time I put the earbuds from the seats – I did not succeed and I always corrected them additionally.
The earbud case is not heavy and wearing them for a long time will not be any difficulty. The form is made correctly and in the ears, the earbuds sit pretty tight. If you like to jump, run or do other activities in the earbuds, then the Doogee Dopods model will be convenient for you.
Still, the manufacturer claims protection against sweat and splashes of the IPX5 standard. Naturally, bathing or wetting the earbuds is completely impossible.
On the outside, there is a touch panel and an LED indicator that lights green or red. Also a little lower on the front is the headphone channel designation. At the bottom, there is a hole for the microphone.
On the inside, two contact connectors with a magnetic connection were installed.
The sound guide received the correct anatomical shape of the ear canal, so landing in the ears is not bad.
The body of the earbuds is made of the same matte material as the charging case. It does not leave fingerprints and looks pretty good both for its price. Of course, plastic is not the highest quality and expensive, like premium models. But in my opinion, it is much better than glossy.
Earlier I tested Xiaomi Haylou GT2 earbuds, so the plastic is exactly the same as our hero from Doogee.
Doogee Dopods: Connect and Control
Even in the ultra-budget category of wireless earbuds, Doogee Dopods got a Bluetooth connection with version 5.0. I found an interesting point that aptX codecs are only supported on Android devices, but the AAC codec will be available for iOS.
However, the time to connect the earbuds to the device is very fast. The same goes for the quality of communication. The signal was always strong and there were no breaks or loss of connection during the whole time I tested.
The control is very rich and the most pleasant thing is that accurate. I did not find any accidental clicks. One-touch – play/pause, accept/hung up. Double-tap – next or previous track, depending on conicity. Triple tap – call voice assistant. And the most amazing thing is the presence of the volume control function, which is caused by holding for about 2 seconds on the touch panel.
Doogee Dopods: Sound
The sound is answered by the standard 6 mm dynamic driver. I can’t say that the sound quality is very high with good bass and detail, but the sound is definitely not the worst in its class.
At low frequencies, there is a small bass, although it is not so dense and clean.
The mids and highs sound pretty good, but lack clarity and you can hear wheezing at maximum volume.
If we compare the sound quality of the Doogee Dopods with the Haylou GT2, then the sound between the two models is very similar. Both in terms of sound character and volume level.
The quality of the microphone is not the best, but I had no problems during phone calls.
Doogee Dopods: Battery
In terms of battery life, Doogee Dopods earbuds showed a good result for about 5 hours at maximum volume. Although Doogee says that earbuds can play for about 7 hours, it may and may achieve this result, but at a minimum volume of 40-50% and a close distance from the paired device.
A 40 mAh battery capacity was installed in each earbud, and the charging box received a small capacity of 300 mAh. The total battery life with a charging case will be about 20 hours.
It takes around 1.5 hours to fully charge the earbuds through the Type-C port. Also, within 15 minutes of charging – the earbuds are able to work for about 1.5-2 hours.
Doogee Dopods: Conclusion and Reviews
The new model of Doogee Dopods wireless earbuds looks decent, but it also plays pretty well, given its low price.
I can attribute to the positive aspects – this is an ergonomic and convenient design, multi-functional touch control, a good indicator of battery life. The sound quality is no worse than that of major competitors such as the Haylou GT2 and Tronsmart Spunky Beat.
In addition, I can note that the presence of a Type-C port is a pretty nice bonus, which is rarely seen in budget wireless earbuds.
Doogee Dopods: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now the price of Doogee Dopods is very attractive – it’s $22.99 with a 30% discount. But if you want to save even more, then you can add the order to the basket and pay on March 27.
For your price, you get very high-quality earbuds that have wonderful technical specifications and a good sound when watching movies, listen to audiobooks, or even playing sports.
