On my way, there were many meetings with the Chinese brand Chuwi, but today we will talk about an updated version of a budget laptop called Chuwi HeroBook Pro+.
The new model has received many interesting features and lets me tell you about the main ones. The first thing that makes the laptop stand out is its high resolution 3K screen and small screen size of only 13.3 inches. I want to remind you that the previous generation of CHUWI HeroBook Pro had a 14.1-inch screen with Full HD resolution.
The processor was also changed to Intel Celeron J3455 with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. At the same time, the body is made of polycarbonate, so the weight and dimensions of the device are very attractive for transportation.
In addition, I liked the cost of the new generation of the Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ ultra-budget laptop. Currently, you can purchase the device for as little as $260. This is a really sweet price tag, and getting some pretty cool features for a small amount of money will be very difficult.
But is everything really so good? Let’s check for what purpose the new laptop model was created, and I will also tell you about the main advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, I propose to start a detailed and in-depth review.

Unboxing and packaging
Most of Chuwi’s products come in fairly rigid and sturdy cardboard packaging. The picture of the device is not displayed on it, but it is possible to notice the name of the company and model. Also on the side, there is a sticker with the main technical characteristics.
Meanwhile, inside the package, I was greeted by a neatly packed laptop in protective foam. Therefore, for my test, the updated version of the HeroBook Pro+ laptop came intact and without damage.
The package also includes a 24W power adapter with a European plug. As well as for instructions for use, which includes English. In general, the equipment is very good, given its low cost of $260. Now I propose to talk about the appearance and build quality.
Design, materials used, and workmanship
The Chuwi company decided to follow its oldest method and produced a laptop in the most common polycarbonate case, or as the people say, made of plastic. I have nothing against plastic, but it certainly won’t be as sturdy as most budget metal laptops.
If you look at the dimensions, then the dimensions of the Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ were 330 x 220.8 x 18.5 mm. At the same time, the laptop weighs 1.16 kg. Yes, based on this, I can conclude that the new laptop model will be easy to transport. This is the most important advantage when comparing similar laptop models. Therefore, in terms of size and weight, everything is fine.
You can easily place your device in the main pocket of your backpack. But do not forget that the case is made of plastic, which will lead to significant abrasions after several weeks of transportation. Therefore, I advise you to purchase an additional protective case, since it was not originally included in the package.
On the outside of the laptop, the Chuwi logo is located in the upper left corner. As I said, the screen hinges are made of plastic, but they open smoothly and without any problems. Although, it is worth noting that the new laptop model did not pass the test for opening the lid with one hand. This is not surprising, since the device weighs just over 1 kg.
When I first opened the lid of the laptop, I was a little surprised at the value of the bezel around the screen. As for the 2021 device, the bezels around the screen are very significant, so the laptop clearly did not plan to occupy the first place in appearance.
On the top frame of the screen is a front camera with a resolution of 2 megapixels. But at the bottom of the frame, there is the name of the Chuwi company. If the light of the laptop is made in gray, then the frame around the screen already has black plastic and it strongly contrasts with the main body of the laptop.
If we talk about the quality of the camera, then it is not the highest level here. Although I cannot say that the video quality will be very terrible when communicating on Skype. In general, as for its price, the camera copes with its tasks well and in general, I am glad that it is present here.
As for the screen itself, it got a size of 13.3 inches. And the most important feature is the screen itself, thanks to its high resolution. The HeroBook Pro + laptop model uses a 3K screen or 3200 x 1800 pixels. At the same time, the aspect ratio was 16: 9, and the pixel density per inch was within 276 PPI.
I want to note that it takes a lot of effort to achieve this pixel density value. For comparison, I can say that Full HD laptop screens have a pixel density of up to 150 PPI. But I did not notice a strong difference between the resolution of 3K and Full HD screens. Therefore, if the meaning of this feature, I still do not understand.
But one thing I was very pleased with is the presence of an anti-reflective coating. That is, using a laptop outside the room will be quite comfortable. And this fact is very important, as for a small laptop with easy transportation.
Now let’s talk about the keyboard and its responsiveness. The Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ laptop model received full-size keys, which are made in black. At the same time, the distance between the keys is quite good and the typing accuracy was at a high level. The shutdown key was located in the upper right corner near the Backspace key. And this will be a small problem since my device often turned off not according to my purpose.
The touchpad received not the largest dimensions since the size of the device is not significant anyway. But using the touchpad in real life turned out to be not as bad as it seems at first glance. Its work had a pretty positive impact during my testing.
Okay, now let’s talk about the frontend. On the right side of the device, you can find connections such as a microSD card slot, a headphone jack, and a USB 3.0 port. On the opposite side, there is a DC charging port, another USB 3.0 port, and a mini-HDMI output. The number of connections is very limited, so using an additional USB-Hub will obviously not be superfluous.
On the bottom edge of the case, you can see four anti-slip black feet and dual speakers. Here I did not see a connector for an additional slot for an SSD memory card. But if you open a few bolts, you can always upgrade your laptop for the amount of memory. But the sound quality of the speaker is not the best in its segment.
Since the maximum volume level was insufficient. But I’m glad that headphones can be connected on board.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
The device uses a rather outdated Intel Celeron J3455 processor, which is already about 5 years old. As for the technological age, this is a very long period. Therefore, do not expect good performance from the new Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ laptop model.
Okay, let’s tell you what this processor is. It has four cores in its performance with an operating clock frequency of 1.5 GHz. In addition, you are able to overclock the chipset up to 2.3 GHz. Below I will leave an album with some benchmark tests and you can see for yourself the imperfect performance.
If we talk about a graphics accelerator, then the HeroBook Pro+ has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 500. As my practice has shown, you will definitely not be able to run complex games. I was able to play Asphalt 9, but sometimes there were dips in the frame rate and the graphics quality was not the highest.
However, the device has 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of internal eMMC format memory on board. There is not as much internal memory as for a modern laptop. But it’s good that it is possible to use the microSD memory slot. At the same time, the read speed of the built-in memory was only 270 MBps, and the write speed was about 140 MBps. This is not the fastest memory, so the speed of the device will be poor.
As far as real use is concerned, I do not advise you to launch a large number of tabs in the Chrome browser. This can lead to delays and slight slowdowns. In addition, after launching various video content on Youtube with a 4K resolution, the device did not really cope with its task. At the same time, failures and delays were observed. But 1080p video played without any problems.
Thus, the updated model of the Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ laptop will be a good choice for office tasks. For example, you can easily work with Microsoft Office applications. I was also able to launch Photoshop and edit some simple photos.
The wireless connection on the new Chuwi isn’t all that bad. For example, the device uses a dual-band Wi-Fi ac module and also has Bluetooth 5.0. I did not find any serious problems with the performance of these elements.
The last thing I want to talk about in this section is the operating system. Naturally, like most Chinese laptops of this class, Windows 10 OS is installed onboard the new device. I think almost every user is familiar with this user interface. Therefore, there should be no problems using this user interface.
Battery and run time
The updated model of the Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ laptop offers a battery with a capacity of 38 Wh. This is the same battery as it was on its predecessor, the HeroBook Pro.
My practice has shown that the device is capable of working for about 4.5 hours with active use. During the battery test, I ran the most typical tasks that this laptop model is capable of. For example, I watched various videos on Youtube, played simple games, and worked with text documents.
In general, battery life is not the highest, but again, you shouldn’t forget about the price tag, which does not exceed $260.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
I still have mixed feelings after testing the updated version of Chuwi HeroBook Pro+. For example, compared to the previous generation, the new model has slightly better performance.
I also liked the quality of the 3K display with an anti-reflective coating. I can also highlight a good build, but the plastic used does not give me positive emotions.
But what exactly will suit you is, of course, the dimensions and weight of the device. Indeed, the new model Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ turned out to be compact and easy to transport.
I can single out the disadvantages – this is a rather weak performance, a small amount of internal memory such as eMMC. Sound and webcam quality wishes to be the best.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
If you are looking for an inexpensive and budget laptop with a good and high-quality screen for office tasks, then the new device from Chuwi will be a good choice.
It is difficult to find a laptop with similar features and specifications at such a low cost. Currently, the price tag for the Chuwi HeroBook Pro+ is only $261.68 with a 40% discount.
