Most Chinese ultrabooks have a very attractive appearance, but the technical component is always directed to the background. But today’s hero Chuwi CoreBook X will be a small exception.
In this review I will tell you about the main features of the assembly, the package bundle, I will perform a number of performance tests, and you will also find out the main pros and cons of this model.
First, I think it’s worth talking about the cost and currently the Chuwi CoreBook X will cost you a hefty $520. You can also order an additional ultrabook bag, which will cost $15.
The main difference between the new laptop model from the Chuwi brand and other Chinese laptops is the presence of an Intel Core i5-7267U processor. As you know, most Chinese notebooks come with chipsets like Intel N4120 and others. These are budget processors that do not perform well in performance tests.
But can the new Intel Core i5 processor take it to the next level? You can find my opinion in this detailed review. Also, the ultrabook received 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal SSD storage. Another important feature is the screen with a size of 14 inches and a resolution of 2K.
Thus, on the technical side, the new version of the laptop from Chuwi made quite positive emotions for me. But I will not rush to conclusions and I want to start my story with the packaging and appearance of the device.

Unboxing and packaging
The first thing I was surprised at was the size and shape of the box. That is, the box itself was square, but as you may know, most laptops have a rectangular box. I can immediately reveal the cards why the box was given a square shape. So, all because the screen of this model has an aspect ratio of 3: 2, and not as usual 16: 9.
On the front of the package, there is only the brand logo in the central part, and just below the Intel logo. On the side of the package, there is a sticker with the main features of the model. These are the screen size and resolution, as well as the processor version and its frequency.
Inside the box, I found another box containing the charging cable and power adapter.
The laptop itself was well packed in protective foam, so I had no problems transporting it. The complete set is complemented by various documentation, including a warranty card and more.
Design, build quality and materials
Chuwi CoreBook X is a stylish dark gray ultrabook with minimal weight and dimensions. For example, the dimensions of the device were only 310 x 229.5 x 20.6 mm, but the weight is about 1.5 kg. Thus, you can easily transport the ultrabook, both for educational or work purposes.
In terms of the materials used, everything is also excellent here. The case is made of an alloy of various metals, so the case not only looks sturdy, but also does not bend when you push your finger. Therefore, the build quality is very good and I did not reveal any strong claims to its performance.
The first test I did was to open the laptop lid with one hand. Unfortunately, due to its low weight, the CoreBook X model could not perform this test. I’m not upset though, as most ultrabooks also fail this test.
The Chuwi logo is located on the outer part of the lid in the upper left corner. It does not have backlighting and this is probably a good thing, since it does not strike the eyes too much. At first glance, you might think that this is a top-end device from big brands like Lenovo, Asus and others.
The keyboard is made in black, but there is no key backlight on this model. For some, this feature will be a big problem, since they spend a lot of time precisely at night.
Despite this disadvantage, the keys have excellent response and the distance between the keys is quite large. Therefore, I had no problems with the test suite.
The top right key is highlighted in red and is used to turn the laptop on or off. Sometimes I confused the Delete key with the shutdown button and the CoreBook X turned on at the wrong time. But I think that this is a matter of habit and I cannot consider this feature a disadvantage. It is also worth noting that three operation indicators can be seen above the keyboard.
As for the touchpad, it works adequately well and performs its functions accurately and quickly without any problems. It also has many gesture functions and other control features.
Now I think we can go through the main user interfaces. Chuwi CoreBook X was equipped with Type-C and a charging port on the left side. And on the opposite side, there is a slot for a memory card, a headphone jack and one USB 3.0. That is, the number of connections is very minimal and you definitely cannot do without a good USB-Hub.
At the bottom of the case, you can see four anti-slip feet, holes for an active cooling system, and there is even a slot for additional M2 SSD memory up to 2TB in volume.
You can also see two speakers here, but it will be difficult to call the sound quality. Since the volume level is not very high, you will be able to listen to music or movies without any problems in a quiet place.
Therefore, it is better to use a headphone jack or wireless headphones instead of speakers.
Screen and image quality
As I said, the Chuwi CoreBook X ultrabook model uses a 14-inch screen with 2K resolution or 2160 x 1440 pixels.
In addition, the display received a very interesting aspect ratio – 3: 2. Due to this ratio, the screen looks almost square and therefore a lot of useful information is placed in height.
That is, given its aspect ratio, we can conclude that the CoreBook X is designed to work with documents and programs. But it will not be so comfortable watching films.
I can also say that I liked the used screen of the new model from Chuwi. At the same time, the viewing angles were wide, the contrast was good, but the maximum value of the brightness level was not the highest. Despite this point, I especially liked the pixel density due to the high 2K resolution and the small, compact screen size.
Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS
I already said at the beginning of the review that a good processor from Intel was installed on the Chuwi CoreBook X, namely the Core i5-7267U. Yes, it has good performance for a budget laptop, but I can’t call this chipset new. Since, it was presented back in the middle of 2017.
Of course, if we compare the Intel Core i5-7267U with the Celeron N4120, then the results in the benchmarks will differ by almost two. For example, below you can see an album with examples of various benchmark tests. In practice, the i5-7267U processor is much faster and more efficient than the same N4120 chipset.
In addition, the CoreBook X has a decent integrated Intel Iris Plus Graphics 650 GPU. It performs well not only in benchmarks, but also in demanding games. Naturally, the games will be easy to launch and will be quite comfortable to play. But the maximum resolution will be only 720p and the average value of the graphics level.
I also liked that the manufacturer Chuwi installed 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory in the SSD format on their ultrabook model. During my tests, the device worked stably even with a large number of simultaneously open programs. If you don’t have enough built-in memory, you can easily use an additional slot for an SSD memory card or a slot for a microSD memory card.
For wireless capabilities, the ultrabook has an Intel Wireless-AC 7265 module with support for dual-band 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks. Also onboard the laptop has a built-in Bluetooth 4.2 version. The wireless features work well and the signal quality is stable.
Out of the box, the Chuwi CoreBook X ultrabook comes with Windows 10 Home operating system. Since this model is intended for the international market, I did not have any special problems with the BIOS or functionality. During the first start-up, you will be able to select the desired language, log in to your MicroSoft account and use the OS without much difficulty.
At the same time, the user interface received standard features and controls. But the positive side is the fast operation of the interface due to the good processor performance and the large amount of memory.
Battery and run time
I also liked the battery life on the new Chuwi CoreBook X ultrabook. During my tests, I had about 4.5 hours of battery life on a full charge. But I loaded the device very heavily, not only with games, but also with various benchmark tests.
If you use the laptop at least with an average load, then it can work for about 7 hours. This is an excellent result for a thin modern ultrabook. In terms of numbers, the CoreBook X has a 46.2WA battery inside the case, or that’s comparable to 4000mA.
In addition, I liked the fast charging function. The manufacturer supplies an adapter with a power of 19V/3.42A or 65W. In this case, a full charge of the device will take you about 1 hour.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Chuwi CoreBook X is a modern ultrabook with good technical features considering its price. Although it does not have the latest processor version, this Intel Core i5-7267U is still very popular and has good performance.
Of course, the ultrabook model received a number of positive aspects and I want to share them with you. The first thing I liked was the small and compact size and weight of the device. Also, I have no complaints about the build quality and materials used. But the most important feature is a very high-quality screen with high resolution and a large amount of RAM and internal memory.
Naturally, the new model also lacks shortcomings. For example, this is the lack of keyboard backlighting and a not very high level of screen brightness. Yes, you can still list many minor disadvantages, but they are comparable to the price tag for this ultrabook.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
If you are on fire with this laptop model with its good stuffing and features, then I can impeccably recommend this laptop model to you.
Now you can get the Chuwi CoreBook X at a tempting and low price of just $519.99 for the basic version and for $535.99 with a protective bag included.
