Chinese laptop and tablet manufacturer Chuwi has introduced us to a new gaming laptop model called the Chuwi Corebook X Pro.
The Chuwi brand claims that the new version of the laptop belongs to a gaming device. This applies not only to performance, but also to appearance, as well. Therefore, in this review, I will check the device in detail, both in terms of games and synthetic tests.
As for the cost, now the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop will cost the future user only $520. The price is very sweet, given its features, and let’s go over them a little more.
For example, it uses a standard 15.6-inch screen size with Full HD resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Also, the device received a productive Intel Core i5-8259U processor with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of built-in SSD format memory.
In addition, two coolers were installed inside the device case, that is, active cooling is used here. This is quite an important feature, especially for a gaming laptop. As for the built-in battery, it has a capacity of 70Wh and there is fast charging with 65W of power.
Okay, in terms of technical specifications, the laptop looks very good. But I have a number of questions about the build quality and the materials used. I also want to know the real capabilities of the device in daily use.
Therefore, if you also want to learn about all the nuances and advantages of a gaming laptop model from Chuwi, then I suggest starting a detailed and in-depth review right now.

Unboxing and packaging
The new generation of the laptop from Chuwi is delivered in a fairly typical package for its brand. This is the most common cardboard box, where only the company designation is on the front. But the sticker with the main features was located on the side of the device.
Inside the package itself, the laptop itself was waiting for me, which in turn was completely protected by foam. In a separate box, I found a power cable with a European plug and a 65W power adapter. In addition, the package also included instructions for use and a set of keyboard stickers for various languages.
Perhaps the appearance of the packaging is not the most premium and stylish, but the package itself turned out to be worthy. Therefore, now I propose to talk about the appearance of the device and discuss the build quality.
Design, quality workmanship and materials
Since the manufacturer Chuwi is positioning the new laptop model Corebook X Pro as a gaming laptop, it makes no sense to expect a super thin device case. This is not an ultrabook, but a gaming machine. But despite this, the thickness of the device was only 17.9 mm. At the same time, the weight of the laptop did not exceed 1.8 kg, but the weight of the laptop itself and the charging adapter with the power cable was only 2 kg.
This means that you can transport your laptop without any problems, both for study and work purposes. This is not a particularly large laptop in terms of size and weight.
As for the material used, the entire body of the device was made of aluminum alloy. The material itself was used in a dark gray color, but the lower border of the laptop had a red stripe. It once again showed that this is a gaming device. In fact, this red stripe looked pretty good, as for a 2021 device.
As for the build quality, I also had no particular complaints. All components were well connected to each other and during my testing, I did not find any extraneous sounds, squeaks or other troubles. In addition, the screen hinge opened rather tightly. But at the same time, the screen itself held firmly and did not wobble when typing, as is usually the case on more budget notebook models.
If you try to open the screen lid with one hand, then you will not be able to do this. This is not surprising, since only premium devices with a price tag of $ 1000 and above can pass this test.
A full keyboard is located under the lid of the screen of the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop and let’s talk about it in more detail. From a practical point of view, the keystrokes were not so bad. That is, each key was pressed very easily and, most importantly, responsive.
If you noticed, the power button was located separately from the keyboard, which is good news. Since you will not accidentally turn off the device.
I also liked the presence of LED backlighting. Thus, you can work behind the device in complete darkness. And for this feature, I can only praise the manufacturer Chuwi. In general, if we talk about the touchpad, then it also worked without any particular complaints. The touchpad area was quite large and various gesture functions were present at its base.
Now let’s take a look at all the external connections and ports that the manufacturer Chuwi offers us. For example, the following connections are located on the left side of the device. These are USB 2.0, SD card slot, and Ethernet port. But on the opposite side, there are ports such as a DC port for power, a mini HDMI port, two USB 3.0 ports, one Type-C port, a headphone jack and a front camera switch.
On the bottom of the device, I found a large number of rubber anti-slip feet. Also here you can see two physical coolers, which were created for active cooling at high load. There are also two speakers on the same surface. If we talk about the sound quality, then I cannot say that the sound on the new model of the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop stood out a lot. Since the sound quality was pretty average, I was not particularly surprised.
In addition, I liked the ability to use separate slots for expanding RAM and internal memory. That is, there are two connectors on the bottom of the case, which can be easily opened by unscrewing one bolt at a time. Ok, I figured out the appearance, as well as the build quality, now let’s talk about the quality of the screen and its features.
Screen and image quality
On the front of the new model of the Chuwi Corebook X Pro gaming laptop, a standard 15.6-inch screen was used. This is a typical matrix that is built using IPS technology. In this case, the screen resolution was Full HD or 1080 x 1920 pixels.
You might think that the screen will be a strong point in this model of the device. But in reality, not everything is so simple here. Since the manufacturer Chuwi claims about 76% NTSC on advertising posters, in practice this value was within 48%. Also sRGB was about 66%, AdobeRGB and P3 had about 50% color rendition. This isn’t the best screen I’ve ever tested.
Therefore, if you plan to work often with photos, video content, then I definitely cannot advise you on this particular device model.
In addition, the maximum brightness of the screen was only 230 nits. Thus, using the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop outdoors will be very problematic. But I was glad to see a matte finish here. As for the detail, it was very good here, as well as the viewing angles. But the color rendition was very lame.
On the other hand, the device received one interesting feature – a 144 Hz screen refresh rate. Also in the settings you can set the 60 Hz refresh rate. But do you need this screen with such a high refresh rate for gaming purposes? Let’s talk about this in more detail.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
The eighth generation Intel Core i5-8259U processor was used on the new model of the gaming laptop. You might think this is an outdated 2021 chipset. I completely agree with you, as it was still presented in the second quarter of 2018. But I can’t call the device weak in its performance. The laptop got four yards with eight threads and a maximum clock speed of 3.8GHz. But the working clock speed was 2.3 GHz.
Below I will leave some benchmark tests such as Geekbench 5 or 3DMark and others. In fact, the results were not very high as for a gaming device. But I have always kept in mind the cost of the laptop and its features.
If we talk about the graphics accelerator, then the Chuwi Corebook X Pro model uses the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 chipset. I was able to play games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on low graphics settings at 720p resolution. I noticed that while playing this game, the frame rate was around 30 fps. The result is not the best, as there were minor drawdowns up to 19 fps.
I also played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and in this game the frame rate was about 80 fps. As for this game, this is also not the highest result, but it was more comfortable to play this game than The Witcher 3.
At the same time, the maximum processor temperature rose to 91 degrees Celsius. In addition, the noise from the coolers was quite high and it bothered me a little during difficult processes.
Now let’s check the read and write speed of the built-in memory, which received a 512 GB SSD format out of the box. As you can see from the picture below, the result was almost 1300 MBps read speed and 1030 MBps write speed. This is not as bad as for a modern device and for its cost.
Also on board the device had 8 GB of internal RAM. As I said from the appearance section, there are ports on the laptop case for expanding the RAM and built-in memory card.
Okay, now let’s check the device for performance in everyday tasks. For example, I suggest running a YouTube video at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. I was a little surprised as I was completely satisfied with the result. That is, the device played video easily and I did not find much delay.
I also launched Adobe Premiere Pro CC and decided to save a 1 minute video in 4K format at 30 frames per second. As surprising as it may sound, the save time was only 1 minute and 20 seconds. This is also not a bad result, both for its price and performance.
As for the operating system, Windows 10 OS was installed on board the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop. I did not reveal any particular complaints about her work. In addition, it received multilingualism and during the first settings I was able to choose my native language for the user interface. In general, all functions and processes were carried out quickly and without any delays.
Battery and run time
Depending on the load and the selected screen refresh rate, the battery life will also depend. For example, as my practice has shown in everyday use with a 60 Hz refresh rate, the Chuwi Corebook X Pro laptop lasted about 8 hours.
But if you set the screen frequency to 144 Hz, then the battery life on a full charge will already be about 6.5 hours. In fact, the results are very noteworthy. Typically, such devices live an order of magnitude less.
In this case, the time for a full charge through 65 W of the power adapter will be about 2.5 hours. Let me remind you once again that the capacity of the built-in battery was 70 Wh.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After one week of testing the new model of the Chuwi Corebook X Pro gaming laptop, I was left with both positive and negative emotions.
Of the advantages, the device stands out for the presence of good materials used. Also, the laptop case was well assembled and executed. In addition, I liked the performance of the processor, both in real life and in synthetic tests.
You can also easily install additional RAM and built-in memory in the device. The backlit keyboard will definitely not be a superfluous feature, as well as the presence of a full-fledged SD card slot. I also liked the battery life with a good 70 Wh of capacity and fast charging.
But the main disadvantage for me was the screen, since the color gamut was not the best in its class. Other than that, I didn’t really like the maximum screen brightness of 230 nits. The device also made a little noise under heavy loads and tasks. At the same time, the quality of sound and webcam did not have the best indicators.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
You can currently get the new Chuwi Corebook X Pro gaming laptop model at a fairly low price for just $521.49 with a 22% discount. This is a nice and sweet offer, but I cannot call the device a gaming one.
But if you are looking for an inexpensive but more or less productive laptop with a good supply of external connections, a stylish look and good battery life, then the model from Chuwi will be a good choice.
