Chinese manufacturer Blackview has unveiled a new 10 inch tablet model called the Blackview Tab 9.
Usually Blackview makes rugged smartphones, but this time I was surprised by the production of a new line of tablets. Since the category of tablets has not been very popular recently, especially in 2021.
This is due to the fact that most smartphones practically have a screen size of 7 inches. Therefore, buying a tablet because of the large screen does not cause any special preferences for the user.
But despite this factor, the new tablet model received very good technical features at an affordable price. For example, the price tag for the Blackview Tab 9 is currently only $140. But if you want to buy a separate keyboard, then you have to pay an additional $50 on top.
If you look at the technical part of the device, then the Tab 9 tablet model received a 10.1-inch IPS Full HD screen. The tablet is controlled thanks to the Android 10 operating system. Also, the device received a budgetary, but rather productive Unisoc UMS512 processor.
I can also highlight the presence of 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory with support for a separate slot for a microSD memory card format. But the most important feature of the new tablet model is the availability of 4G network support.
Thus, I propose to start my in-depth and detailed review with unboxing. And then find out the main features of the design and performance of the device.

Unboxing and packaging
The Blackview Tab 9 tablet comes in a simple white cardboard package, where you can see the company logo and model name on the front. But the brief technical details were written on the back of the box.
Inside the box itself, I found – the tablet itself in a protective casing, a power adapter, a Type-C cable, wired headphones, an OTG cable, an instruction and a needle for a SIM tray.
In general, the package bundle surprised me very much, as for its class of devices. Inside the box was everything you needed for full use. As I mentioned earlier, you can additionally buy a separate built-in keyboard.
Design, workmanship and build quality
The manufacturer Blackview offers two color options for the body of the device – in gray and gold. I have a gold version of the Tab 9. But I think this is not really a gold color, but a combination of gold and pink.
According to the materials used, not everything is so bad here either. Since the back of the device was made of an alloy of various metals. But there is also a small plastic plate on the top edge of the case. As you might have guessed, this strip serves as an antenna for transmitting a 4G network signal.
Therefore, it is not surprising that the device not only looks premium, but it is also assembled very well, given its cost. I was also pleased with the presence of a protective case, which will very well protect the tablet screen from extraneous influences.
The front of the tablet received a 10.1-inch IPS screen. The display resolution was Full HD or 1080 x 1920 pixels. Yes, it may not be the highest resolution for such a large screen. But I did not find any problems with readability and color reproduction during my testing.
If I did not find problems with contrast and color gamut, then there were minor problems with the level of the maximum brightness value. That is, in the room, the screen burned perfectly. But outdoors, readability was quite problematic.
It is also worth noting that the screen has received an anti-reflective coating. Throughout the test, my eyes did not get tired of long testing or watching video clips. I can also note that the bezels around the screen are quite large, as for a modern device in 2021. On the top frame, you can find a front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels.
But the main camera module is located on the back of the Blackview Tab 9 tablet with a resolution of 13 megapixels. The main camera module uses a sensor from the manufacturer Sony, namely the IMX258. The quality of both sensors is fairly typical, as is the case with most tablets in this segment of devices. Yes, using a tablet for video calls and conferences will be a comfortable experience. But taking photos will clearly be better on a smartphone.
On the left side of the tablet, there is a power button, a volume rocker, a microphone hole and a Type-C charging connection. The lower edge received two stereo speakers with a five-pin magnetic keyboard connection. But the upper end has a slot for a nano SIM card and a microSD memory card up to 128 GB in volume. Next to the slot is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
As for the stereo sound quality, I really liked the value of the maximum volume level. But the sound quality was not very good, especially when it comes to low frequencies. That is, the bass was practically not heard. But in general, watching movies or playing games was quite comfortable.
The last thing I want to talk about in this section is size and weight. The new tablet model Blackview Tab 9 received a very thin body with a thickness of 8.9 mm and weighs about 570 grams of the device. Okay, I figured out the appearance and design, now let’s check what the device is capable of in real life.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
Responsible for performance is the Unisoc UMS512 processor, which was built using 12 nanometer technology. It received eight cores in its performance, where six Cortex A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.9 GHz and two more Cortex A75 cores with a similar operating frequency.
If you look at the benchmark tests, the tablet scored almost 185 thousand points in Antutu. In the Geekbench 5 test – 360 points in the single-core test and 1336 points in the multi-core test. 3DMark scored around 510 points in the Wild Life test. That is, the indicators are not the best. But let’s test the tablet for real-world performance.
Before talking about games, I want to mention the GPU used – Mali G52 MP2. Its work proved to be quite positive and I didn’t have any particular problems even with hard games. I even got a chance to play Genshin Impact on a Blackview Tab 9 tablet.
Yes, maybe this game is not as smooth as I would like it to be, but if you want to play it will be possible. Other games like Call Of Duty and PUBG Mobile launched without much issue.
The amount of memory on the new tablet model was 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. You will also have the opportunity to increase the amount of memory thanks to a separate slot for a memory card up to 128 GB.
Wireless connectivity is also not as bad as I might expect. For example, the device has the ability to install a nano SIM card with a 4G network and use mobile Internet anywhere in the city. This is an important feature that is lacking on most budget tablets.
The operating system on Blackview Tab 9 received Android 10 version. This is not the most recent version of the OS, but the user interface is very nimble and fast, without any freezes or lags. Also on board the OS was already installed a set of Google services with all applications, such as Youtube, Chrome and others. In general, using the interface was very comfortable and convenient.
Battery and run time
Inside the body of the Blackview Tab 9 tablet, a battery with a capacity of 7480 mAh was built. The manufacturer promises about 6 hours of battery life while watching movies or playing games. But in fact, I got a slightly different meaning.
During my constant testing, I used the tablet at its maximum brightness level and the device lasted for about 5 hours. This is not the best battery life as there are tablets with much better performance than the Blackview tablet. Although you may be able to achieve the result in 6 or even 7 hours, for this you will need to reduce the brightness level of the screen.
As for charging, during my use, the tablet was charged from 0 to 100% in 3.5 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After fully testing the new tablet model from Blackview, I was left with a rather positive impression. The Blackview Tab 9 device has received a number of advantages that I want to share with you.
The first feature is, of course, the build quality and the materials used. Indeed, the tablet is made very high quality and reliable, given its budgetary cost.
I also liked the large screen with bright colors and good viewing angles. But it will be comfortable to use the screen only indoors, but in the open air readability will not be the best.
In terms of performance, the budget Unisoc UMS512 processor together with the Mali G52 MP2 graphics accelerator proved to be a worthy side. That is, you can easily play demanding and heavy games. At the same time, I did not find a strong overheating after my testing. The most useful feature is 4G network support and a separate microSD card slot.
On the downside, I can say that this is not the best battery life. In addition, the charging time is not the fastest in its class.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, the price tag for the new Blackview Tab 9 tablet model is $139.99.
I can recommend this tablet model for no particular reason, but before buying, you should definitely remember the main disadvantages.
