Usually, Blackview makes rugged smartphones, but today I have a not-so-mobile device on my test. As you might have guessed from the title of the article, today I will be testing wireless earbuds called Blackview AirBuds 1.
This is the first generation of TWS earbuds from the Blackview brand and let’s find out what these earbuds are capable of in real life. Since these are generally the first earbuds in the history of the company and the manufacturer previously produced only smartphones, I am already interested in how well or badly the AirBuds 1 earbuds will play.
Naturally, these are not premium earbuds, so the price tag for the TWS model of the Blackview AirBuds 1 earbuds is very attractive. Currently, you can purchase this model for only $30.
Of the features, I can single out a pretty good 8 mm dynamic driver, Bluetooth 5.0 version, touch control, and good battery life. In addition, these earbuds have received a very simple and minimalistic design.
But I have a number of questions – what will be the comfort while wearing and how will the earbuds play in terms of sound? Thus, I propose to start a full and in-depth review in order to find out all the details about the new headphone model in more detail.

Unboxing and packaging
The earbuds are delivered in a fairly high-quality box. At the same time, the density of the cardboard is very good, and as for its value, I really liked the packaging.
On the front of the package, a drawing is drawn with the image of the earbuds and the name of the model and brand. But on the opposite side, that is, on the back of the package, there is a list of the main technical characteristics.
Inside the package, I found an interesting list of components – this is a detailed instruction for use. Also included are additional silicone ear tips and a short Type-C cable.
Design, build quality and materials
The new Blackview AirBuds 1 is only available in one color. It is not difficult to guess from the pictures that the earbuds are made in black. Unfortunately, there are no other color options available.
For the quality of the plastic used, the AirBuds 1 is made of composite plastic. It is glossy on the outside and matte on the inside. Yes, perhaps the glossy material does not inspire strong confidence and positive feelings in me. But one thing is good that the build quality is at a good level.
During my testing, I did not find any extraneous squeaks and sounds. The headphone housing has been assembled to the right level. It is also worth noting that the AirBuds 1 earbuds have received typical splash and sweat protection under the IPX4 standard. This means that you can easily use the earbuds for sports. But completely wetting or swimming will clearly be an unnecessary undertaking.
In addition, I really liked the fit of the earbuds in the ear canal. With the use of silicone ear tips, which have received an elongated shape, they well isolate sounds from the outside world. By this, I want to say that passive noise isolation is not even bad at all.
Okay, now I’ll tell you a little about each element and where it was located. For example, on the outside of the headphone case, there is a touchscreen control panel and a fairly bright LED indicator. But on the inside of the case, there are contacts for charging.
As for the charging box itself, not everything is so sad in terms of the materials used. Look, the plastic is made of matte material and that’s good news for me. But in terms of the build quality, I cannot say that the box is well assembled. Although you shouldn’t forget that these are budget TWS earbuds.
The company name logo is located on the cover of the charging case. But on the front, there are four LED indicators of the battery charge level. The back of the box received a Type-C port. Of course, there can be no talk of wireless charging here, since these are inexpensive earbuds in the mobile device market.
Connectivity, signal quality, and touch controls
There is no need to expect any supernatural from the Blackview AirBuds 1 wireless earbuds either. In their performance, there is a wireless connection Bluetooth 5.0 version. Also, the earbuds received AAC and SBC audio codecs, like most of their competitors or brethren.
But I did not find any major signal quality issues during my testing. That is, the signal was caught even at a distance of 10 meters and no interference or interruptions of mine were found.
As for the latency, I have no particular complaints if you plan to watch videos on Youtube. But in the games, there was a little discomfort. Again, though, these are not gaming earbuds.
As for the touch control, I did not reveal any strong remarks, since the functionality is full and I practically did not have accidental clicks.
- One-touch calls the play or pauses function.
- Double-tap to accept or hang up the handset. Also, the same control is capable of switching tracks forward or backward.
- A triple tap brings up the voice control function on the mobile device.
- Long touch can increase or decrease the volume level depending on the channel.
Sound and microphone quality
I already mentioned that an 8mm dynamic driver was installed on the Blackview AirBuds 1 earbud model. This is a good combination, both in terms of sound and maximum volume. If we compare the maximum volume with the Redmi Airdots 2 model, then it is almost identical to the model from Blackview.
Now for the frequency ranges. The first thing that pleased me very much was the presence of a spacious and dynamic bass. I have rarely ever come across such pleasant bass sound on budget TWS earbuds. But Blackview managed to surprise me.
The mids play pretty well, but the high frequencies are located in the background, which is good for me since the high frequencies sound quite smooth.
If we compare the sound between Blackview AirBuds 1 and Redmi Airdots 2, the difference will be very significant. You might think that Redmi will have the best sound, but in reality, it is not quite so. In practice, the AirBuds 1 model proved to be many times more pleasant in sound than the same Airdots 2.
Yes, the new earbuds will definitely be appreciated by music lovers in such styles of music as rock, pop, electronic, and the like. But more complex expositions will be beyond the power of Blackview AirBuds 1, for example, these are classical, jazz, and others.
As for the quality of the microphone, it does not stand out here for its strengths. That is, the interlocutors did not hear me very well, even in a quiet place, the sound was echoing, as if from a barrel. And in a noisy place, you may have trouble understanding your interlocutor.
Battery and run time
The battery life on a full charge during my testing of the Blackview AirBuds 1 earbuds was about 5 hours of continuous use. Considering its price and class, the battery life is definitely the strong point of the model.
You can also achieve multiple recharges from a box that uses a 390mAh battery. Therefore, the total battery life will be about 18 hours.
Charging is done via a Type-C connection and in my case, it took about 1.5 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
If you’re looking for good wireless earbuds for everyday use, the Blackview AirBuds 1might be a pretty good choice.
First of all, the earbuds received a good ergonomic design that will allow you to enjoy your music for a long time. I also liked the build quality and the presence of at least some slight water protection under the IPX4 standard.
I can also refer to the positive aspects – this is a wide functionality of touch control. And most importantly, the device received a very good and high-quality sound, especially the lower frequency range. As I already said, the bass is enough here and it plays on the head better than its main competitor Redmi Airdots 2.
Of the negative aspects, I can single out – this is not the best latency, especially in games. There are also no additional features, for example, the earbuds do not have a proximity sensor for automatic pause. I would also like to get ANC function and transparency mode.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
You can currently get the new TWS model of Blackview AirBuds 1 earbuds at a tempting price for just $29.98 with a 25% discount.
Perhaps by paying a few dollars more, you can get better earbuds with ANC function and transparency mode. But when compared with the Redmi Airdots 2 model, then the choice will be obvious for the model from the Blackview brand.
