Zeblaze THOR S Review: Responsible Smart Watch with AMOLED display in 2018

The Chinese manufacturer has a smartwatch Zeblaze THOR S based on Android 5.1 in our reviews.

Visually, the Zeblaze THOR S is somewhat similar to the Samsung Gear S2 Classic. The bezel is also made of metal, labeled with numbers but cannot be rotated.

How the nearly $140 expensive smartwatch with its 350mAh strong battery in the test, you can read now.

The established manufacturers such as LG, Huawei, Motorola, Sony have all already launched smartwatches on the market.

The different models all have something in common: they are powered by Android Wear. Only Samsung uses its own Tizen OS in its wearables. And the Samsung Gaer S2 Classic also convinced me completely in the test.

This was not due to the operating system, but to the ingenious operation on the rotating bezel.

Although the Zeblaze THOR S of the Chinese manufacturer also offers a bezel, unfortunately, this is without function. Unfortunately, apart from the externalities, there are no similarities.

Zeblaze THOR S: Design and Appearance

Samsung is expected to introduce a Gear S3 at last year’s IFA and the Zeblaze THOR S may be the template for it.

Optically, it is based on the role model from Samsung. The Chinese Zeblaze THOR S in our analisis with Android 5.1 but offers a bezel with printed numerals and comes in the one color of black on the market in 2018.

With its dimensions of approximately 210 x 51.2 x 15 mm, it has already turned out pretty bulky. The weight of about 65 grams is fine with a case made of stainless steel.

The dimensions are still no comparison to the even heavier Casio WSD-F10.

The battery cover made of metal on the bottom is opened by four screws (screwdriver is located) and then grants access to the slot for the nano-SIM. In the battery cover itself is also the cutout for the heart rate sensor.

The bracelet comes in a rubber look, but can not be changed. Why not? Well, inside are three antennas (GPS / WLAN / GSM) welded in and they are VERY sensitive.

Zeblaze THOR S: Display

The Zeblaze THOR S in the test uses a 1.39-inch circular AMOLED display with a resolution of 400 by 400 pixels.

The quality is good but in my opinion not comparable to the much more expensive Huawei Watch. After all, the display has not inherited the ugly Flat Tire “the Moto 360 2nd Gen”.

An automatic regulation of the brightness does not offer the Smartwatch for it either. The maximum brightness is ok and can be varied in three steps via the on/off switch and the settings there.

In the settings, you will find the slider known from Android for fine-tuning. In direct sunlight, but it is still tight with the readability. The display puts the numerous Watchfaces well into the scene.

The display itself is usually disabled. The virtual dials can only be seen if the watch is activated via the on/off switch or the arm is raised and turned to the face. This saves electricity in 2018.

Zeblaze THOR S: Hardware and Performance

The Zeblaze THOR S relies on the (no longer fresh) MediaTek MT6580. This is a quad-core chipset with 1.0 GHz per core.

It comes with its 1 GB of RAM in Geekbench 3 only 451 points in the single-core and 1430 in the multi-core. The AnTuTu benchmark cuts the sails.

For a few modest games like Angry Birds or Flappy Birds, the power is still enough. More prohibits itself because of the small display.

Zeblaze THOR S: Software

The Zeblaze THOR S Smartwatch in our analisis comes with a reasonably current Android 5.1 therefore. The advantage of this OS is the fact that in contrast to the “slimmed down” Android Wear does not suffer from app poverty.

Assuming that the apps with the relatively low resolution and the round display (switchable even a square representation) come clear, so you can use unrestrained on the Play Store.

The Zeblaze THOR S provides almost all necessary apps from the factory. Pre-installed are the Google Play Store, Google Music, a calendar, a sound recorder and of course the phone and SMS app.

The inputs (texts, SMS, e-mails) are made via the round touchscreen and a – still quite fiddly – virtual keyboard. For the small keys, you need a little time to get used to it. After that, the entries worked quite fast. Android Wear delivers the virtual pusher only with the upcoming version 2.0.

The operating system itself is controlled via the pusher on the right side of the watch as well as swiping gestures on the touchscreen.

However, the manufacturer of the user interface (SinWear) was inspired by the models with Android Wear.

For example, you can only change the volume using softkeys in the corresponding sub-item of the clock. This is just a bit annoying for the music player.

Of course, the Zeblaze THOR S in the review has a built-in pedometer and a heart rate monitor.

Thanks to the built-in GPS receiver, you can also measure the distance covered and the current pace/speed. But only if you install an app like Runtastic.

Unfortunately, the GPS receiver is not always reliable, or the reception is quite weak. This is due to the antennas in the bracelet.

About Google Play Music for MP3, I can fill the almost two gigabytes of memory with music and also play.

The sound is output either via the built-in, slightly scratchy sounding speaker or via a paired Bluetooth headset.

So you can use the Zeblaze THOR S on the road as a self-sufficient fitness tracker with its own music playback. A full-fledged web browser is available as well as a phone and the matching apps (contacts, SMS).

Zeblaze THOR S: Connectivity

With the Zeblaze THOR S smartwatch in the analisis, you can on the go via WLAN b/g (only 2.4 GHz) or UMTS to the Internet.

Thanks to its own nano-SIM under the battery cover you can also make calls with her. This is not always advisable with the built-in microphone (privacy).

I could understand my interlocutors well with the built-in speaker. Something more discreet and less conspicuous is that also via a Bluetooth headset.

The transmitting and receiving power was – depending on the network – sufficient.

Theoretically, Zeblaze THOR S can also be used as a “companion” and thus forward the incoming messages from the smartphone to the smartwatch in 2018.

All you need is a stable Bluetooth connection. In the test, this broke off again and again. Over Wi-Fi, you can not pair the clock with a smartphone. Also, the internet connection of the smartphone cannot be used.

Zeblaze THOR S: Battery

The smartwatch THOR S in the test is charged via a magnetically adhesive plug. The battery of the watch delivers 450 mAh and thus lasts just under a day.

If you use the display often and for a long time, you will have to reload your watch after about 5 hours.

The charging itself is done after about 45 minutes (depending on the charger).

Zeblaze THOR S: Conclusions and Reviews

The Zeblaze THOR S in our reviews looks pretty good, is well made and certainly not too expensive with around $140.

The quality of the case made of stainless steel and the 1.4-inch display with its 400 x 400pixels also makes a good impression.

However, the GPS receiver is weak (which is probably due to the antennas in the bracelet).

The smartphone can stay at home. As a companion – like the models with Android Wear – the Zeblaze THOR S is only partially suitable. It is more like a miniature smartphone (for geeks).

Zeblaze THOR S: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

At the moment you can already buy watch Zeblaze THOR S at a good price for $139.06. This is a pretty nice price, and the watch does look and sit on your arm well in 2018.
