The Redmi series is growing and growing, and in addition to the Redmi 6, the Redmi Note has been extended to include the 6th generation.
It took a while before it was actually available. We received a 3/32 GB Redmi Note 6 Pro in the Global Version with Volume 20 for the test. So, let’s see the main specs of the Redmi phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Design and Appearance
If the direct comparison to the Redmi Note 5 is drawn, then the display of the Redmi Note has grown by almost 0.3-inches, with almost the same dimensions.
Although it has grown by almost 1 mm, for a millimeter narrow and only scarce 5 grams heavier than its predecessor.
What remained is the plastic caps that hide the antenna. Why this is not solved similar to Max is not fully understood.
Otherwise, the design and processing are Xiaomi-typical very good. I find the feel a little better than the grade 5.
It is as usual everything in its place.
The power button and volume rocker are on the right, on the bottom we have the speaker, the micro-USB port, the microphone, and the 3.5mm jack.
On the left side, we have the slot for 2 Nano SIM cards or 1 Nano sim with SD slot, as you like. Supported cards up to 256 GB.
On the top, we have the infrared sensor. On the back then the dual camera and the fingerprint sensor, as we know it for years.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Display
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro in the test has FHD + display is 6.26 inches and has a resolution of 1080 × 2280 pixels (403ppi). The aspect ratio is 19: 9 with a very good display edge ratio of 81.1%.
The FHD + display of the Redmi Note 6 Pro is sharp and really clear. The colors are displayed very well, but you can also change the color options in the options as you like and adapt them to your personal taste.
In the test, neither pixel errors nor rough blur was to be recognized. Capacitive keys are unfortunately a thing of the past.
Here you can either make do with the OnScreen buttons or set to Full-Screen Gestures, where you work with swipes through the menus instead of the on-screen buttons.
This has the advantage that you have more usable space of the display.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Hardware and Performance
The Redmi Note relies on the Snapdragon 636 processor like the previous generation. This is still relatively new and will also find its place in the future Mi Max 3.
It is surprisingly fast, no performance drops are noticeable, and the level is quite high for a mid-range smartphone.
In the Antutu benchmark e.g. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro in the analisis has done over 115.000 scores, which is really amazing. The predecessor was still at close to 88.000 scores in the test.
In Geekbench 4 it manages 1340 points in the single-core benchmark and 4861 points in the multi-core benchmark.
In the popular 3D Mark Slingshot it reaches 1447 points. This is certainly not a high performance, but absolutely sufficient for a device of this class.
Games like Asphalt 9 ran smoothly at the highest resolution and detail level.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Software
Upon receipt, the MIUI 10 Global was installed on the Redmi Note 6 Pro in our analisis. After a few days, the official Global Rome of MIUI 10 came as an OTA update.
All Google Apps were available, including the localization in Europe and support for the LTE band 20.
To later install a custom-ROM, the device must, however, previously unlocked (unlock). This is now quite expensive.
Above all, after the registration for the Unlock has to wait a full 360 hours (15 days). Once the unlock is done, you can install a multilingual custom ROM from Xiaomi.eu.
As can be seen after the update, much has changed in the look. The drop-down menu looks different, the notifications as well as the settings menu.
All in all, MiUI looks pretty solid. It also seems to eat properly battery, but later more. Meanwhile, OTA updates to MiUI 10 once a week.
So it is working diligently. At times I noticed dropouts in the UI. Here, freeze the screen for 2-3 seconds or apps are just closed, so it is still a lot to improve, but in a beta that’s not surprising.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Connectivity
The voice quality of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro in our test is excellent as usual during a telephone call.
Our conversation partners were always able to understand us very well. We now finally have all the bands including LTE band 20 on board. This upgrades the Redmi Note 6 Pro properly compared to the Chinese competition.
In terms of Wi-Fi, the Redmi Note 6 Pro dual band offers the 802.11a / b / g / n / ac 2.4GHz / 5GHz standards.
This theoretically transfers up to 1.5 gigabits per second are possible. There are also Miracast, DLNA and Wifi-Direct.
The transfer is running at full capacity. Unfortunately, NFC is not installed, but rare in this price range anyway.
The GPS has always been solid in all Xiaomi devices. GPS, A-GPS, and GLONASS are supported by default. The first fix lasted a bit as usual, after which he found satellites within 1 second.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Camera
The dual camera of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro on the back uses a 12 megapixel Samsung S5K2L7 sensor with f/1.9 aperture (1.4 μm) as well as a secondary 5 megapixel Samsung sensor.
Supported are HDR, EIS, and dual autofocus. Added to this is the DUAL LED flash and the AI support.
The front camera has improved compared with the previous generation dual camera 20 megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors, also with AI support.
Here are some sample shots of the camera.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Battery
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, unfortunately, has only Quick Charge 2.0, which is why the device needs a little longer to load. I do without synthetic tests here.
Since I use the device for 4 weeks as a daily driver, I can say with justification, I am relaxed about the day. In the evening at about 15% it goes back to the charging station.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Conclusions and Reviews
I was very skeptical about the Redmi Note 6 Pro. The sixth generation of phone, oh yes again a change without much change but I have to revise my opinion.
It’s a solid smartphone in a very solid price range. It is currently replacing my old daily driver, the Mi Max 2.
The 6.26 inches are really good in terms of size. Less edge and more display than its predecessor, 19: 9 format and an FHD + display complete the whole.
The real battery power despite 4000mAh could be better. Micro-USB is not a “do not buy” criterion, but it’s outdated, so Xiaomi definitely needs to fix it.
The Snapdragon 636 is really good. I can do all my daily work without big problems. What still bothers me is the “end caps” on the Redmi versions, the metal covers on the antennas.
Why you do not build a housing here, as Xiaomi builds for the Max, remains a mystery to me. Last but not least, the camera. I was really very positively surprised.
The phone shoots very good daylight images, the photos look nice and especially low light conditions, it now synonymous better.
No comparison to the Mi 8, but at least very decent results. The portrait mode with the front camera is absolutely top class.
So if you want a solid phone in the price range under to $200, is in good hands here. Buy recommendation from me.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now consider the price and what the best deals you can find in the Chinese market.
Now you can already buy a basic version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro phone with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage for $179.99.
In real life, it did not receive major changes in design in comparison with the previous generation, but it is still a reliable and high-quality phone for daily use.
