Just a couple of days ago, I was able to test the new smartphone Redmi Note 9T 5G. But today we will talk about a slightly different smartphone model and this is Xiaomi Redmi 9T.
It is easy to guess from the name that today’s hero from Redmi is the younger version of the Note 9T 5G model. Therefore, they will be indicated slightly differently.
But before talking about the main features, I want to draw your attention to the cost of the Redmi 9T model. Currently, from January 11 to January 15, you will be able to purchase the device with a good discount for just $ 140.
This is a very attractive cost. The main features I can highlight are a large 6.53-inch Full HD screen, a mid-range Snapdragon 662 processor, 4 or 6 GB of RAM, and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. Also, the smartphone stands out with a 6000 mAh built-in battery and even a good main camera.
Thus, for a low cost, you get a device that is even better than the budget Poco M3 model. But is everything so perfect with the new low-cost smartphone? Let’s take a detailed and in-depth review of the new king of tall smartphones.

Unboxing and packaging
As the older version of the Note 9T 5G smartphone, the new Redmi 9T device officially began to be sold with the global version of the firmware for the international market. Therefore, you will not find Chinese symbols on the boxes, so it is in the instructions.
The dimensions of the budget smartphone package are absolutely similar to Note 9T. This is really good, as inside I found a standard and typical package with a charging cable and power adapter.
Let me remind you once again that the flagship model decided to follow in the footsteps of Apple and presented the Mi 11 in a very thin box and without a power adapter and charging cable.
In addition, inside the box, I found a separate envelope with various documentation, a protective silicone case, a needle for SIM cards, and, of course, the smartphone itself. The device itself was packed in a shipping film and there is a list of the main features on the front. Now I think it’s worth taking a little look at the look and talking about build quality.
Design, workmanship, and materials used
I was not at all surprised that the Xiaomi Redmi 9T smartphone was completely made of plastic, except for the front part. Since this is a budget and cheap smartphone, I didn’t have to expect premium materials.
At the same time, I can highlight that the body of the device is assembled well and without any questions. For example, the back of the lid does not bend and when twisted, the smartphone does not make squeaks or other sounds.
In addition, I liked the back of the smartphone with its matte and grooved surface. Also, during my test, I did not have a very smudged smartphone with fingerprints, but all thanks to this material.
Also on the back of the device, you can find the big brand name – Redmi. But in the upper left corner, there is an island with four main camera modules and an LED flash. If you do not take into account the design and shape of the camera, then I did not find a strong difference between the back of the smartphone between Redmi 9T and Redmi Note 9T 5G.
By analogy with the older model, the fingerprint scanner and volume rocker were installed on the right side of the Redmi 9T. On the opposite side, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and an additional slot for a memory card.
As for the fingerprint scanner, everything works smartly on the 9T and, most importantly, accurately. I did not find any problems with the fingerprint scanner and even with wet fingers, the scanner works fine.
At the bottom, there is a Type-C port for charging, the main speaker, and a microphone hole. At the same time, on the top, there is another additional speaker, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack and a noise-canceling microphone.
Again, I was pleasantly surprised by the stereo sound. Yes, maybe the second speaker is not as good as the main one. But its presence causes me only positive emotions. As for the sound itself, as for its class, it is very good. The volume is high, but I would like a little more bass.
Overall, I really liked the look of the new Redmi 9T model. Although the case is made of plastic, it is quite solid and the build is of a high standard. Now I think it’s worth talking about the quality of the screen, and then find out the main features in terms of performance.
Screen and image quality
The front side of Xiaomi Redmi 9T received a large 6.53-inch screen with Full HD + resolution or 1080 x 2340 pixels. At the same time, the aspect ratio was 19.5: 9, exactly the same as on the Redmi Note 9T. And the presence of a waterdrop notch for a selfie camera does not greatly distinguish the device from other models of the Redmi brand.
As for the bezels around the screen, they are quite large, so the screen-to-body ratio was only 83.4%. And the pixel density per inch is 395 PPI. The screen is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Considering their cost, many competitors only have HD screen resolutions. But the Redmi 9T model received Full HD resolution and this is really a great feature.
I also liked the color gamut, contrast, and even the wide viewing angles. But the values of the maximum brightness level will not be enough. The typical brightness was 400 nits. Therefore, using the screen outdoors in bright sunny weather will not be entirely comfortable.
Of course, this is a budget screen, so it only uses a 60Hz refresh rate. But this value is sufficient for everyday use. I think that such a smartphone is not bought for the sake of heavy games. A large number of functions and features are available in the settings section. For example, these are Reading Mode, Night Mode, Color Selection, Dark or Light Theme, and more.
Performance, benchmark tests, and OS
The Redmi 9T model uses a Qualcomm processor called Snapdragon 662. It’s problematic to call this chipset a gaming one, but as for its value, it performs its functions 100% perfectly.
The exact same processor is installed on the Poco M3, which I was able to test about one month ago. Let me remind you once again that this chipset uses 11-nanometer technology and has eight cores in its execution. Of which four cores are the main ones – this is Kryo 260 Gold with a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, and the remaining four cores are energy-saving Kryo 260 Silver with a frequency of 1.8 GHz.
Below I will leave an album with examples of tests of various benchmarks. But on my own, I note that the performance of the Redmi 9T is almost the same as that of the Poco M3. The two devices work quite quickly and perform their tasks fast. For example, the AnTuTu test scored a large number of points – about 180 thousand.
The gaming ability is also great, the 9T received the Adreno 610 graphics accelerator and therefore it was a pleasure to play games. Of course, there is no high frame rate here. But with average graphics values, fps was in the range of 50-60. In addition, after one hour of gaming, I did not find a strong overheating of the device, as for example, it was with the Redmi Note 9T model.
By the amount of memory, everything is fine here as well. You have the option to choose between 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of internal storage. In addition, I would like to note the presence of a separate slot for a memory card up to 512 GB.
As for the operating system, the Redmi 9T has Android 10 installed with the MIUI 12 user interface. It is already a time-tested operating system that has proven itself to be reliable and without any problems. But in addition, the manufacturer promises to update the OS to version 11 soon.
But in terms of wireless capabilities, the Redmi 9T has one trump card when compared to the Poco M3 model. Thanks to the NFC module for contactless payment. In addition, the device has a dual-band Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth 5.0 version, and even a fast GPS module. Yes, this model only has support for 4G network, and 5G network is out of the question.
Camera and sample photos
Another main difference between the Xiaomi Redmi 9T and Poco M3 models is the presence of one camera module in the Redmi line. But let’s talk a little more about sensors. The main camera module of Redmi 9T received a 48-megapixel resolution with f/1.8 aperture. At the same time, the quality of photos on the main camera module is very good, both in the daytime and at night. The colors are very realistic and the detail is high for their class of devices.
The second camera module already has an 8-megapixel resolution. It was created for ultra-wide shots with a 120-degree field of view. You can see examples of photos just below in the album. As I said, the main difference between Poco M3 and Redmi 9T is the presence of an additional camera module. And we are talking about ultra-wide mode on the 9T model.
The third and fourth camera modules received a resolution of 2 megapixels. They are designed for bokeh and macro photography. While the portrait mode works fine, the macro mode has a rather weak photo resolution. Therefore, when using the macro mode, the photos will be very grainy, but the focus will be good.
The front of the device has an 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. Yes, maybe the photos are not very detailed, but the color gamut is at a pretty good level.
The last thing worth talking about is filming. The main camera received a maximum resolution of 1080p and 30 frames per second, as well as the front camera. If the resolution is acceptable for a selfie camera, then for the main module I would like to get with 4K resolution.
Battery, operating time on a single charge, and charging
The amazing news for me was the battery capacity on the Xiaomi Redmi 9T. Here the manufacturer decided to install a 6000 mAh battery. This is not a bad figure when compared even with the Redmi Note 9T, which only has 5000 mAh. Yes, it’s worth mentioning here that the Poco M3 has only the same battery capacity.
During my tests at the end of the first day, the device was down to 41%. This is a very good result, despite the fact that I used the smartphone without regret and checked all the necessary functions. For example, I ran tests on various benchmarks, played heavy games, and even ran camera tests. Thus, in everyday use, the smartphone can easily work for 2.5 days or even more.
The time to fully charge through the 18W power adapter took me a little bit about 2 hours and 33 minutes.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
The Xiaomi Redmi 9T is another amazing smartphone that is similar in technical features to the Poco M3. But the main differences between the two models are design, the presence of an ultra-wide camera module, and NFC in the Redmi model.
Yes, the cost of the Redmi 9T may be slightly higher than that of the Poco M3, but I think it’s worth a little extra for these features. As for other technical characteristics, they are completely identical.
I liked the smartphone from the Redmi brand for its performance, the quality of photos both on the main camera and during the ultra-wide mode. In addition, a large battery capacity was installed here, so you can not worry about battery life.
Of course, as with any budget smartphone, there are drawbacks here, and let’s talk about them. The first thing that I didn’t like was not a high value of the maximum screen brightness level, not a very high resolution of macro mode, and a rather long charging time.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
As I already say at the moment from 11th to 15th January, you will be able to purchase the Xiaomi Redmi 9T at a very favorable price for only $139.99 using a $20 discount coupon. I say this for the basic version, but the 128 GB version will cost you $169.99.
Given its low cost, I can definitely recommend this smartphone for purchase. It has many cool features and functions. Therefore, if you wanted to purchase a new smartphone model at a low price, now will be the best time to order, since the price after January 15 will be much higher.
