Recently, Xiaomi has become a popular brand, and therefore they have more and more sub-brands. For example, a new action camera at an affordable price with a sub-brand Mijia introduced a new camera called the Xiaomi Mijia Seabird 4K.
In this review, we will examine all the positive and negative sides of the camera, and try to conclude whether it is worth buying a camera with a price tag of $90.
Because with the Xiaomi Mijia Seabird action camera, the brand can assert itself better against the competition.
The main specs that can be expected from the camera are the Sony IMX258 sensor, which removes 4K at 30fps and a 1050mAh battery.
The cam for good price and also full of high-tech. What awaits you and what image and video quality you have, you will learn in this test of Mijia Seabird.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Specifications
A real treat is the Mijia Seabird, if only because the price is so low, it provides a 4K resolution, has a 1050 mAh battery and thus can produce long videos in the highest resolution format.
|Xiaomi Mijia Seabird:||Specs|
|Main Screen:||2.0 inch IPS Touchscreen|
|Max Video resolusion:||4K at 30FPS|
|Protection:||IP68 with ater case|
|Stabilisator:||Gyro Stabilisator (EIS)|
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Unboxing and Packaging
The packaging itself is small and white. On the front side you can see the photo of the camera, and on the back side there are specifications, everything is written in Chinese.
Inside the box is the Mijia Seabird camera itself, a removable battery, a mini-USB cable, and instructions in Chinese.
If you want to buy an additional water case or other accessories, then you will have to pay separately.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Design and Appearance
The camera of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird in our test is quite compact and fits in any pocket. Their dimensions are only 60.5×42.2×29.7mm, the weight is only 60g.
On the back is a pretty big 2.0 inches touchscreen. It’s resolution 960 x 480 pixels. This size is not common with action cameras and in our opinion a real plus.
On top of the case, there is a power button, which has a round shape.
The case itself of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird is made of ribbed material, which is good to hold in your hand and it does not slip out if it is snowing or raining outside, which is convenient.
On the left we have nothing, and on the right is the speakers to listen to what you have recorded and a plastic plug under which there is a slot for a memory card up to 128GB and a micro USB connector.
Below there is a thread for the tripod or holder, a microphone and a slot for a removable battery.
Installed is a fairly modern chipset “Hisilicon Hi3559V100” which produces a video bitrate up to 60 Mbit/s and up to 30 frames per second at a resolution of 4K.
The following resolution values are available in the video format:
- 4K (3840x2160p) at 30fps
- 1440p (2560x1440p) at 30fps (requires less storage space)
- Full HD (1920x1080p) at 60 or 30fps
- HD (1280x720p) at 120fps
The resolution of the image sensor is 12-megapixels, so photos have good quality. Also, 12-megapixels are enough to produce good 4K videos. Here comes a sensor from Sony used, the Sony IMX258.
The lens has a wide-angle lens with 145 degrees. The images are drawn by a distortion correction “wide” and look quite normal.
The memory of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird can be a microSD card up to 128 Gbytes.
We recommend formatting a memory card before use and not using larger cards, as this can lead to various problems!
The recordings can also be saved in RAW format.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Menu and Recording Modes
In the menu navigation of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird in our analisis, the manufacturer has made much easier. The menu has a clear structure, does not seem too cluttered and you can quickly cope.
Among other things, you can select different shooting modes, for example, slow-motion shots or Timelapse.
Here, however, one has to say in comparison to the competition that the slow motion frame rate is a maximum of 120 frames per second and not like other cameras at 240 fps.
However, this frame rate is enough to be able to produce beautiful videos in this mode, without the “liquid” of the image sequence suffers.
Really cool is also the timelapse function of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird, which can also be used meaningfully thanks to the long battery life.
In doing so, the camera takes photos at intervals of time defined by you and composes them directly into a video.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: How good is the picture quality?
For the price of Xiaomi Mijia Seabird, the images are quite good, also here are 12-megapixels used, and for use as ActionCam enough but completely.
Also integrated is a 3D noise reduction, which ensures a better image quality, especially when shooting in the dusk or an environment with weak light sources.
Since the digital recordings are available in RAW format, they can also be reworked with a good image editing program.
In order to deliver an even better picture quality compared to the competition, the manufacturer has integrated a distortion correction and electronic image stabilization EIS. These features work with videos up to 30 fps and 4K.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Application
Via Wifi, the Mijia Seabird camera can be paired with a smartphone. The manufacturer has developed a really good application for this purpose.
The Mi Home app is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. For this, you need to have at least these versions installed on your device: Android 4.0 or higher, iOS 8.0 or higher.
On your smartphone, the live image of the camera is transmitted directly, also you can directly control the cam via the app and set.
The connection uses a WLAN signal with a frequency of 2.4 GHz.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Battery
Here the Xiaomi Mijia Seabird 4K clearly scores. Because it brings it even at maximum resolution and 30 fps up to 90 minutes running time. That’s a hell of a lot compared to other cameras in this price range.
The models from other manufacturers often have the same battery capacity, the Mijia Seabird is a 1050mAh battery used.
For charging the battery of the cam takes about the same time as it runs in one piece, so about 1.5 hours.
I would also like to note that in the settings of the camera, you can choose to charge the camera through the cable but at the same time you can shoot video. It is very convenient to use the power bank and use the camera if it is discharged at an inconvenient moment.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Conclusions and Reviews
For this price, you get here a pretty good Xiaomi Mijia Seabird action camera like in our review, but we can not say anything about long-term experiences, as the cam has not been on the market for so long.
A real advantage is the low price of the Mijia Seabird action camera, but it is quickly relativized by the fact that there is no large accessory set in the standard scope of delivery.
What can you expect from this camera? Firstly, this is a worthy comedy shooting for both its price and the presence of an EIS, which makes the picture smooth and without jumps. But also you can use the stabilizer to get even more smooth video.
In general, it is a reliable camera, as the company Xiaomi is trying to make high-quality products at an affordable price and good specifications.
Xiaomi Mijia Seabird: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
As for the price, as I wrote above, the price in different stores is $89.99. And you can already buy the Xiaomi Mijia Seabird camera at a good price.
But if you need additional accessories, then you will have to pay more. The prices and accessories you can find by clicking on the links below.
