The new generation of the small 14 inch Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 laptop was presented along with the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 15 laptop in the spring of 2021.
If anyone would be interested to know my opinion about a laptop model with a 15.6-inch screen size, then you can read my full and detailed review here. Although both models have similar technical specs, they are completely different in functionality.
As for the cost, at present the price tag for the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 is $1390 for the maximum version. But the older version of the Mi Notebook Pro 15 will cost you only $1200. So let’s find out if it’s worth overpaying for a 14″ version of the device if a 15.6″ laptop is also a good choice.
First, let’s go through the main technical features of the device. For example, the 2021 Mi Notebook Pro 14 laptop received a 14-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels with a 120 Hz refresh rate.
The heart of the device is an 11th generation Intel Core i7-11370H processor, and the exact same processor was used on the Mi Notebook Pro. I can also highlight the presence of two other configurations – this is with an Intel Core i5-11300H processor with an integrated graphics card NVIDIA GeForce MX450 and the same processor only without a graphics card. All versions come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of built-in SSD format.
Well, if you want to know about other features and how the Xiaomi laptop will cope with everyday and not only tasks, I suggest you continue to examine the device closer.

Unboxing and packaging
For my review, the new generation of the Mi Notebook Pro 14 laptop came in a small white box. The front has the company logo and Chinese model name.
Considering that the laptop was only presented for the Chinese market, then you will not be able to purchase the global version in the near future. But I think that this will not be such a serious problem, since I did not have any special difficulties using it.
Inside the box, I found the laptop itself, which was neatly packed and protected from all edges with foam material. Also in the package you can find the following items – a 100W power supply unit and a Type-C charging cable to a Type-C connector. Also included in the package is an adapter with USB and HDMI ports.
Design, build quality and materials used
Considering that this is a 14-inch laptop, the weight of the Mi Notebook Pro 14 model will be slightly different from the model of the Mi Notebook Pro device. Yes, indeed, the weight of the laptop itself was only 1550 grams. But if you add to this weight the weight of the power adapter, charging cable and adapter, then it increases to 1800 grams.
For comparison, the weight of the older version of the device with a 15.6-inch screen size was 1800 grams and plus the weight of the adapter, cables and adapter, the total weight was 2000 grams.
In terms of dimensions, the Mi Notebook Pro 14 has dimensions of 316 x 220 x 15.6 mm. These dimensions are slightly smaller than the Mi Notebook Pro version. Therefore, you can easily transport your laptop, both for educational and business purposes.
On the outside of the lid of the Mi Notebook Pro 14, the Xiaomi logo was located. It is worth noting here that the logo itself was cut on metal, so you obviously won’t be able to remove the company name. Also, the laptop was made of light gray aluminum alloy and this can only positively affect the weight of the device.
As for the quality of workmanship, the laptop did not cause any particular complaints from me, since all the components were perfectly assembled. For example, the hinges moved smoothly and I could easily open the laptop lid even with one hand. Xiaomi proves once again that it can do quality things. But this is not surprising, since the device has a price tag of over $1000 and it cannot be otherwise.
Under the lid of the Notebook Pro 14’s screen is a keyboard with black keys and a large touchpad. In this case, the distance between the keys was about 1.5 mm. This means that typing will only have a positive effect while using this version of the device.
I can also highlight one interesting and most importantly useful feature – the keyboard backlight. It will be useful if you often use your laptop at night.
The power button was removed from the keyboard. In addition, a fingerprint scanner was built into the power button. The fingerprint scanner works quite accurately and quickly.
The touchpad panel was made of plastic, but I did not find any particular problems during my testing. All movements, gestures were smooth and it was a pleasure to operate the touchpad.
On the right side of the laptop, Thunderbolt 4 was installed with video output 8K and 30 frames per second and there is a USB Type-C 3.2 generation with video output 4K and 30 frames per second. That is, this means that you can easily connect two monitors at the same time to one laptop.
Meanwhile, on the left side there is a Type-C charging connection and a headphone jack. A small LED indicator can be seen between these ports, which will alert you to the battery level.
But on the bottom of the Notebook Pro 14, you can see four rubber feet, two stereo speakers and holes for the cooling system. But how will the device behave under heavy loads? I will share with you about overheating a little later.
Speaking of sound quality, I didn’t really like the way the two speakers played. In addition, they are not in the best location. I also lacked the volume level for maximum volume and bass. For comparison, I note that the Notebook Pro 15 version plays much better in sound quality than this generation.
Screen quality and its main features
As I said at the beginning of the review, the Notebook Pro 14 laptop received a 14-inch screen size with an IPS matrix. Its resolution is 2560 x 1600 pixels. As you can imagine, with such a small screen size and a fairly high resolution, the picture detail was pretty good. In this case, the aspect ratio of the screen was 16:10.
The maximum brightness value was 285 nits. Yes, it’s not bad, either for work at home or in the office. But if you plan to use the device outdoors, then this may be a little problem for you.
Another feature of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 laptop screen is the 120Hz refresh rate. You can also set the screen refresh rate to 60 or 90 Hz in the settings.
If you look at the sRGB color rendition, it was 99%, while Adobe RGB was 75%. Therefore, there are absolutely no problems with the color gamut of the new laptop model. I also want to note that the viewing angles were very wide, as well as the contrast level.
Let me remind you that the screen on the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro model was built using a completely different technology. Namely, the device received an OLED screen with a native resolution of 3.5K. The Notebook Pro 14’s screen may be a bit simpler, but I can’t call it awful. I suppose that the 14-inch version of the laptop will be useful for gamblers, as it received a high refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
I have reviewed the highest version of the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 laptop with an Intel Core i7-11370H processor and an integrated NVIDIA GeForce MX450 graphics card. But you can also choose a simpler configuration with an Intel Core i5-11300H processor with an integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics card or an integrated GeForce MX450 card.
Since I already had a version of the Mi Notebook Pro laptop with the same processor version on review, the benchmark test results will be very similar to the results of our hero today’s hero. Therefore, below I will leave an album with examples of various benchmarks below.
As I mentioned earlier, each configuration uses 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal SSD format. If we talk about the read speed, then it was 2030 MBps, and 1400 MBps writing. From this I can conclude that the read and write speed is not the fastest, since Samsung drives show much better results.
Now let’s take a look at the laptop in terms of everyday tasks. For example, I ran a 4K video on YouTube and did not find any particular problems during playback. If you plan to use a laptop for video editing, then the rendering will not be the fastest. Therefore, for video editing, this laptop will not be the best choice.
Ok, now let’s talk about the playability of the Mi Notebook Pro 14. The first game I was able to play was Cyberpunk with a maximum resolution of 720p. At the same time, the FPS value was in the range from 30 to 35. If we talk about playability, then I did not observe a special delay in the game, all the processes were quite smooth.
The next game on my list was Shadow Of The Tomb Raider. At low graphics settings, but at 1080p, the game showed an average FPS of about 50 frames per second.
Now let’s talk about the most important problem that was on the Mi Notebook Pro 15 – the overheating of the device. For example, a new version of a laptop with a 14″ screen size showed a similar result in terms of overheating. This means that the device does not particularly like high load, since the processor temperature could reach up to 97 degrees Celsius. In this case, the temperature of the keyboard was in the range from 49 to 51 degrees.
Battery and run time
A 56 Wh battery was installed inside the case of the Mi Notebook Pro 14. This is much less battery capacity than its older version Mi Notebook Pro 15, which had a capacity of 70 Wh.
In real life, the runtime of our today’s hero was slightly better than the 15.6 inch version. This is not surprising since the laptop has a slightly smaller screen size and also a lower resolution value. But this does not mean that the battery life of the Mi Notebook Pro 14 is ideal.
For example, during my testing, a laptop at a 90 Hz refresh rate was able to work for about 5.5-6 hours. But if you use the device constantly with a 120 Hz refresh rate, then the operating time will be reduced to 3 hours.
But one feature that really made me happy is the availability of fast charging thanks to the 100W power adapter. At the same time, a full charge from 0 to 100% took me less than 2 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
To be frank, I really liked the model of the laptop Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 2021. But do not forget that the main drawbacks remained untouched – this is overheating under heavy load or heavy processes.
Another disadvantage I can attribute is the lack of a USB-A port on board the device. I think this problem can become very serious when choosing a laptop. In addition, a rather weak and not high-quality stereo sound can be attributed to a negative point.
Well, I figured out the cons, now let’s tell you what I liked about the new laptop model. First of all, I would like to highlight – this is the ideal combination of materials used and high-quality assembly. The device also got pretty good performance. Of course, the most important feature of the Mi Notebook Pro 14 is the 14 inch 120Hz screen.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
If you are not particularly worried about the above negative features, then I can recommend a device from Xiaomi for purchase.
At the time of this writing, the price tag for the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Pro 14 was $1049 for the most basic version. The second configuration of the laptop will cost you $1190, and the highest one for $1390.
