After the presentation of the new smart bracelet model from Xiaomi, I managed to spend a little time with the updated generation of Xiaomi Mi Band 6.
In this review, I will tell you about all the functions, as well as compare them with my predecessors Mi Band 5. You can also find out the main advantages and disadvantages. Besides, is it worth buying a new device or is the fifth generation not so bad.
The first thing I want to draw your attention to is the cost. The official price tag for the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 was 229 yuan, or about $ 35. But the version with the NFC module will cost you 279 yuan or $ 43. Naturally, I announced the official cost and most likely the price tag will be slightly higher in Aliexpress online stores, especially at the start of sales.
The main changes I can highlight, first of all, is the updated screen. Nowadays, the screen size has become much larger and is 1.56 inches. At the same time, the resolution also increased, by the way, as well as the pixel density.
In addition, the manufacturer has installed some interesting features – this is an additional sensor for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood. I can also say that in terms of sports, the bracelet has received a number of improvements, which I will talk about a little later. Well, the last thing you can worry about is the battery life of the device. As the manufacturer assures, the battery life from a full battery charge remains the same as in the fifth generation.
Okay, I propose to start my full and detailed review of all the functions and features now, but first, let’s find out about the configuration and appearance of the device.

|Sensor:||Heart-rate monitor, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer|

Unboxing and packaging
The new smart bracelet model comes in a typical rectangular black packaging, as was the case with the predecessor Mi Band 5. For example, on the front of the box you can see a picture of the device, a large letter 6 with the model name and, of course, the Mi logo in the upper right corner.
Also on the ends of the package, there are icons with the main features. For example, these are 30 different sports training modes, full protection from water up to 50 meters deep, accurate sleep readings, magnetic charging and much more.
Inside the package itself, I found a rather large instruction for use in various languages. Also in the package lay, directly, the smart bracelet itself with a charging magnetic cable.
Naturally, I cannot call the quality of the box premium, since the thickness of the cardboard was quite thin. But the device came to my review without damage. But the equipment has remained the same, as, by the way, with its predecessors.
Design, build quality and materials
If you compare the size and appearance of the two bracelets Xiaomi Mi Band 6 and Mi Band 5, then you may not notice much of a difference. But based on the numbers, there is a difference between the two generations. For example, the dimensions of the new bracelet were 47.4 x 18.6 x 12.7 mm, while the previous generation was 47.2 x 18.5 x 12.4 mm. Although, the weight has not changed much and the device weighs about 12 grams, without a strap.
From this it is also worth noting that the silicone strap from the fifth generation will not fit the sixth generation of the smart tracker. Therefore, if you already have additional straps of the fifth series of the bracelet, then you will have to buy it separately for the new generation. In this case, the dimensions of the strap were 155 and 219 mm, respectively, on each side.
If we talk about the materials used, then the body is made of plastic. On the front of the tracker, there is a protective glass with an anti-reflective coating. In general, the exact same materials were used on the previous generation of the device. As far as the build quality is concerned, I have no particular problems with the new generation of smart bracelet. In addition, the bracelet has received protection against water under the 5 ATM standard. Exactly the same protection was on the fifth generation of the smart bracelet.
On the back, the manufacturer has installed a heart rate sensor and a dual-pin charging connection. It is worth noting here that the charging remains the same as in the fifth generation. This means you do not need to take out the capsule to charge it. It is very convenient and practical at other times, so I didn’t have any major charging problems.
Of course, the biggest design change is the large 1.56-inch AMOLED screen. For comparison, the previous generation had a screen size of 1.1 inches with a resolution of 126 x 294 pixels. But in the new generation of the tracker, the screen resolution was 152 x 486 pixels. In addition, the density per inch is within 326 PPI.
The screen quality remains the same, but the screen size allows you to put 50% more information when compared to the previous generation of the smart tracker. But the value of the maximum brightness level remains the same – it is 450 nits. Therefore, I propose to talk about the functionality and main features of the new generation of smart bracelets from Xiaomi.
Functions, features and application
Before talking about all the features, I had to sync the tracker to the mobile app. Naturally, Mi Fit is the most popular application that is used not only in smart bracelets, but also with other devices and gadgets from the Xiaomi brand.
If you have not yet installed the Mi Fit application, you can download it through the Play Store or App Store. You can also download the application via QR code in the instructions or on the home screen of the device. The pairing process itself did not take me more than 5 minutes and now I can tell you about the main features and control functions.
The main screen of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 smart bracelet has received many different watch faces. The manufacturer promises more than 130 types of watch faces and, of course, additional dials can be downloaded via a mobile application.
But the controls are the simplest and completely the same as in the previous generation. For example, by swiping up or down, you can use various functions. In the main menu, I found the following features such as status, PAI, heart rate, SpO2, notifications, sport modes and history, stress, respiratory recovery, alarm clock, weather, music player, world clock, settings and more.
In the more tab, you can find more additional features – these are camera control, stopwatch, timer, find a smartphone and silent mode. But the settings offer sections such as dial selection, do not disturb mode, brightness adjustment, screen lock and much more.
If we talk about each function in more detail, then let’s start with the sport modes. Currently, the number of sports modes has increased to 30 different types of training. The last generation had only 11 types of training. Now, not only can you practice standard sports such as running, walking, swimming, but there are also various types of dancing, wrestling and yoga.
It is also worth mentioning the appearance of the function for determining the level of oxygen in the blood SpO2. The last generation didn’t get this feature, but I’m glad the sixth generation already has it. But the results of indicators of heart rhythms or blood oxygen levels may differ from medical ones. You should always understand that this is not a complete medical device.
Other features such as music controls, weather, women’s health, and even breathing or stress recovery worked without much issue during my testing.
As for the Mi Fit mobile application, with the new generation of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 bracelet, practically nothing new has been added. For example, you can view the indicators of your activity through the mobile application. There is also a store with different types of watch faces, notification and reminder settings, vibration and much more.
Battery and run time
The battery life of the past and the new generation of smart fitness bracelets has an identical operating time. Even the battery capacity remains the same – 125 mAh. At the same time, the manufacturer guarantees a runtime of about two weeks without recharging.
But I think that in real life the running time will be slightly less. And if you use a bracelet with high activity, then it is possible to discharge the device in one week. Do not forget that the battery capacity remains the same, but the screen size and resolution have almost doubled.
I can also mention the convenient charging method. The sixth generation of the smart bracelet has received the same magnetic dual-din charging as in the fifth generation. Full charge time does not exceed 1.5 hours of your time.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
After a full test and consideration of all the functions and features, I can conclude that the new generation of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 smart bracelet has received a number of significant improvements.
The first and most important advantage is the large and almost frameless screen on the front of the case. This is a high-quality AMOLED matrix with a good brightness level and vibrant colors.
A number of interesting features have also been added. I can refer to them – this is the presence of an SpO2 sensor, the number of sports training has increased and six automatically detected training sessions have appeared.
But I cannot call the lack of a GPS sensor a strong disadvantage, since the price tag for the new generation has practically remained the same as in previous versions. But I would not mind getting an international standard NFC module.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, the price tag in Chinese stores is very different from the official value. For example, now you can order Xiaomi Mi Band 6 for $46.99, while the official price in China was $ 35.
Therefore, if you are not in a hurry, then I advise you to wait until the cost falls closer to the official one. But definitely, the sixth generation of a fitness bracelet is far superior to its older brothers.
