This is not the first time Xiaomi has released gaming monitors in the mobile device market. Today I was able to test one of its most recent gaming monitors, which is dubbed the Xiaomi Mi 24.5.
I have previously tested some models from the Xiaomi brand, monitors such as Xiaomi Mi Surface Display 34 and Xiaomi Redmi Display 1A. Follow the links below for detailed testing of these device models.
As for the new generation of gaming monitors, the price tag at the start of sales was quite high. For example, currently the cost of the Xiaomi Mi 24.5 monitor will cost the current user $390.
Therefore, let’s find out the main technical features of the new generation of gaming monitors before drawing early conclusions. For example, as you might have guessed from the name, the device received a 24.5-inch IPS screen with 1080p resolution. Since this is a gaming model of the monitor, the refresh rate of the picture was as much as 165 Hz.
In addition, the monitor has received a large functionality of adjusting settings. Therefore, you can easily adjust the correct choice of slope to suit your taste. At the same time, the color rendition was within 95% sRGB and there are useful eye protection features on board, such as low blue level and other features.
Thus, I propose to find out all the strengths and weaknesses of the new generation of gaming monitors from Xiaomi. Therefore, I plan to start my test with unpacking and the appearance of the device.

Unboxing and packaging
The Xiaomi Mi 24.5 monitor comes in a rather large package, which was made of cardboard material. On the outside, you can see a sketch of the device with Chinese characters and main features.
Inside the package, the monitor itself was well-packed in protective foam. Also included in the package is a metal leg, a 36 W charger, HDMI cable and instructions for use. The manufacturer also included a calibration color gamut graph in the kit. And on these graphs you can observe different values of color characteristics. For example, here I saw that the sRGB value was within 95%, the color temperature of the color was 6500K, and more.
I would also like to note that the weight of the entire box was about 6 kg, and its dimensions were 62 x 42 x 17 cm. This means that transportation of the device will be problematic. Therefore, it is better to immediately order courier delivery to your home. Ok, everything is standard with unpacking, now let’s find out the main design features of the new monitor model.
Design, build quality and materials
Let’s first tell you about the assembly features of the new monitor model Xiaomi Mi 24.5 with 165 Hz refresh rate. The assembly itself did not take long and I was able to fold the monitor in just 5 minutes. Since I have already tested more than one monitor, the build process was not a serious problem for me. Anyway, I think that anyone can assemble a monitor in two parts easily and quickly.
Out of the box, you can find two components – a metal base and a leg stand that will hold the monitor itself. The connection of the main base and the leg post was carried out through a threaded connection and a screw bolt. In addition, it should be said that the base of the monitor was quite weighty. Therefore, I did not find any twitching after the complete assembly of the structure.
Another positive point is a special hole in the stand of the monitor legs through which cables will pass. This is a fairly convenient solution and you will not see extra cables in the background of your monitor.
Yes, such a hole may have been used before and this is not a new design feature. But I am completely satisfied that this solution is used on the new generation of the Xiaomi Mi 24.5 gaming monitor.
If you look at the back of the monitor, you can see the following external user connections behind the plastic plate. This is a DC port for power, two HDMI, DP or Displayport connectors, and a headphone output. That is, there are all the necessary connections for the full use of the device in real life.
As for the build quality, I did not find any special complaints during my testing. Here, Xiaomi demonstrates its quality at its best and therefore you will not have any complaints about the workmanship.
In addition, the bracket has received a wide range of adjustments in various directions. That is, you can tilt the monitor screen down, up, right, or left. There is also right and left rotation, and even vertical rotation. It should be said that all the adjusting positions were very smooth and did not cause strong complaints from me.
If you look at the front of the monitor, you can easily see that the bezels around the screen, namely the top, left and right, were very minimal. But here’s the chin, that is, the bottom frame was quite thick. This is normal practice as with most monitor models.
Meanwhile, on the bottom of the case of the Xiaomi Mi 24.5 gaming monitor, you can see one large power button. Also, this button functions okay and there are additional four buttons. These four buttons help you navigate the main menu of the device settings.
In addition, all of these buttons have good responsiveness and are pressed with decent feedback. Okay, I figured out the appearance, now I propose to talk about the image quality and the main settings menu.
Colors, playable abilities and menus
First, I want to go through the main sections of the menu and its settings, and then let’s talk about the quality of the transmitted image of the game monitor.
The first time you turn it on, you will need to change the Chinese language of the user interface to your native language. Fortunately, the number of languages here is large and your native language will clearly be on this list. To translate the language of the settings user interface into any other language, you need to go to the very last section and select the first subsection. Also in this section of settings, I found another shortcut key, OSD settings, volume control, monitor information and reset to factory settings.
Ok, now let’s go through the main sections of the menu settings. The first section in the settings menu is to adjust the brightness and contrast. But you can also see that DCR and black level can be adjusted additionally. The next section is called PQ and here I can adjust the response time and the level of pungency.
The Pro section of features has subsections such as Adaptive-Sync, HDR, refresh rate, and others. In addition, there are various smart modes such as Standard, Gaming, Eco, Movie, Low Blue, and sRGB. Also in the settings menu, you can select the required external signal source – two HDMI or one DP connection.
Well, I figured out the settings and let’s talk about the quality of the transmitted picture of the new Xiaomi Mi 24.5 monitor. First, I want to note that the screen resolution was only Full HD or 1080 x 1920 pixels. As for a modern gaming monitor, this is not the highest detail value. In addition, competitors will have an order of magnitude higher resolution. Therefore, pixelation under close observation will be well observed.
At the same time, the maximum value of the brightness level was only 280 nits and this is not the best indicator. Although I understand that you are not planning on using the monitor outdoors. And in the room the amount of brightness will be enough with your head. Well, I talked about the main disadvantages of this monitor model, now I propose to talk about its main advantages.
First of all, let me run the Spyder 5 Pro benchmark and check some color rendition metrics. For example, the device has an sRGB value of 95%. At the same time, the NTSC value was 67%, AdobeRGB was 72% and P3 – 71%. These are good indicators of the color gamut, if we speak, as for a gaming monitor model.
But the most important feature of the new generation Xiaomi Mi 24.5 is its frequency refresh value. For example, in the case of today’s hero, the screen refresh rate was 165 Hz. This is unrealistic a lot, as for such a monitor model. This will have a good effect in games and let me tell you more about my emotions during the gameplay.
I connected my game console to the Xiaomi Mi 24.5 monitor screen and played some shooter games. Surprisingly, I was very impressed with the smoothness of the image. Other than that, I didn’t find any blur. Therefore, if you are a true gambling addict, then perhaps the new monitor model from Xiaomi will be a good choice.
Another important parameter is the response time, which was 2 ms. Usually monitors in this segment have a response time of about 4 ms, but here the manufacturer wanted to surprise us and made the response even faster, and this will have a significant effect only on the positive side in the gameplay.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
The new gaming monitor model Xiaomi Mi 24.5 received a number of both positive and negative sides. In conclusion, I want to talk about each side in more detail.
On the plus side, the Xiaomi monitor has proven its worth in gaming with its 165Hz refresh rate and 2ms response time. I also liked the monitor for its design and workmanship. Xiaomi has once again proved that it can produce high-quality and reliable devices.
But there are also disadvantages and this is not the highest value of the screen resolution. That is, only Full HD resolution is used on the gaming monitor model and this is not as much as for the 24.5-inch screen size. I can also highlight not the highest value of the maximum brightness level. Well, the most serious drawback is its cost, and let’s talk about it below.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
You can currently buy the Xiaomi Mi 24.5 Gaming Monitor with 165Hz refresh rate for $389.99 with a 20% discount.
If you look at similar monitors from Asus, Acer and other brands in local stores, you can find models with a lower price tag than the new model from Xiaomi. But there are reasons for this, as the new Mi 24.5 gaming monitor has a high refresh rate at 165 Hz and a decent sRGB value of 95%.
