Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

Xiaomi has presented not only a new version of the smart bracelet but also a number of other interesting gadgets. Today I have to review another new product called Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite.

This is a light version of the flagship device and the first thing I noticed was, of course, the weight of the smartphone. The device also stands out with other cool features, and you can find out about them in my detailed and in-depth test below.

The official price for the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G version for the basic configuration starts at $435. But so far, there is no 5G version on the global market, so I can offer you a good offer of the same model, only with 4G network support. That is, from April 6 of this year, you can purchase Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite for only $300 for version 6 and 64 GB of memory. There is also a version with 6 GB and 128 GB memory and it will cost you $30 more.

Considering its very sweet cost, the technical features and characteristics of the new generation of the smartphone really amazed me. For example, a new and modern Snapdragon 780 processor is installed inside the case. It was built on 5-nanometer technology with 5G network support. But the 4G version uses a slightly different processor – Snapdragon 732G.

The device also received a 6.55-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. I can also highlight the main camera module with 64 megapixels and a battery with a capacity of 4250 mAh and fast charging with 33 watts of power.

Okay, after seeing the features, I can’t wait to check how the device will perform in real life. I planned to start my full review with the unboxing and appearance of the device. So, let’s find out what kind of surprise Xiaomi has prepared for us this time?

Unboxing and packaging

The new model of an almost flagship device comes in the most standard packaging, like most devices from the Xiaomi or Redmi brand. This is a white dense box, where the designation of the model name and the Mi logo is located on the front. Also, the letters are painted in bronze and the packaging looks pretty good.

In the package itself, I managed to find – this is a separate box with a needle for the SIM tray, a silicone transparent case, a protective glass for the screen, instructions, and an envelope with an adapter from 3.5 mm to Type-C connection.

Naturally, the package included the smartphone itself in a protective cellophane film. The package also includes a 33 W power adapter and a Type-C charging cable. In general, the equipment itself is not bad enough and I am glad that the manufacturer has put a protective glass and a headphone adapter in the package.

Design, build quality and materials

As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the first thing that distinguishes the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G smartphone is its insignificant weight and dimensions. For example, the dimensions of the device were only 160.5 x 75.7 x 6.8 mm, and the device weighs about 160 grams. Yes, it should be said that the thickness, taking into account the protruding chamber, will be about 9-10 mm. But the smartphone lies in the hand very well.

According to the materials used, the Mi 11 Lite model is made of protected glass, both on the front and on the back of the device. But this is not glossy glass, as usual, you can see in most models, but matte. I really liked the use of frosted glass in my performance. Since there are no fingerprints on its surface, and it looks quite original.

The manufacturer offers a choice of 3 color options – black, blue, and pink. As you can see, I have a black version. But I think blue or pink would look just as good as black.

In terms of build quality, I did not identify any particular problems. For example, the buttons on the side ends are made of metal and have a good pressing stroke. In addition, the device has received minor splash and rain protection. But I would also like to note that the Mi 11 Lite 5G smartphone model received only a plastic frame. Therefore, the rigidity of the device will be a little lacking when compared to the metal frame of the case.

Meanwhile, on the back of the smartphone, there are three main camera modules. There is also an LED flash or flashlight nearby. The design of the camera module is very much reminiscent of its older brother Mi 11. You will not find anything else here, except for the brand’s company logo.

The right side of the smartphone received a power button with a built-in fingerprint scanner, and a volume rocker is located just above. On the opposite side, on the left side of the end, there is nothing.

But at the bottom of the device, there is a hybrid slot for dual nano-SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card. There is also a microphone hole, a Type-C port, and the main speaker. At the same time, an infrared sensor and a hole for a noise-canceling microphone are located on the top end.

Also, I would like to pay attention to the sound quality of the speakers. I only mentioned one speaker, but the device also received an additional speaker on the front of the case at the top of the screen. Not surprisingly, stereo sound is used here. In terms of sound quality, I did not reveal any serious problems, since the volume level was sufficient and there was even a decent bass.

Screen and image quality

On the front of the smartphone Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G, there is a 6.55 inch AMOLED screen with Full HD resolution or 1080 x 2400 pixels. This screen received an aspect ratio of 20: 9 and a pixel density of 409 PPI.

I was a little surprised at the moment that Xiaomi has reduced its usual screen size from 6.67 inches. As for me, with the decrease in the screen size, the usability has become much better. Other than that, you’ll notice around selfie camera cutout in the upper left corner and some rather minor bezels around the screen.

As I said, the front part received a protective Corning Gorilla Glass 6. I can also highlight that the 5th generation Corning Gorilla Glass is used in the Mi 11 Lite 4G version.

In terms of features, the new smartphone received support for features such as HDR10 + and 90Hz refresh rate. The maximum brightness level is within 800 nits. But if you compare with other smartphones with a brightness of 1300 nits, then I did not manage to notice the difference in real life.

In the screen settings, I can highlight – this is the choice of a black theme, remove the round notch at the top, adjust the color gamut and select different styles of the Always-On Display function. In general, I liked the quality of the screen on the new smartphone model of the light version of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G, both for its features and for its image transmission quality.

Performance, benchmarks, games, and OS

It’s easy to guess that different versions of 4G or 5G models have different processors. For example, the 5G version has a Snapdragon 780G processor, while the 4G version uses the Snapdragon 732G chipset. I can’t say bad things about both types of processors, but naturally, the 780G model performs much better in benchmark tests.

Of course, I’ll leave an album with examples of various benchmarks such as AnTuTu, GeekBench 5, and other tests in the album below. But the 5nm processor is showing its performance in a very positive way.

As for gaming abilities, on the 5G version, the device received the Adreno 642 graphics accelerator. I was able to play quite heavy games, for example, Genshin Impact with a maximum frame rate per second of 60 FPS. But the game PUBG Mobile started at maximum graphics values and had a stable value of 90 FPS. The next game was Bullet Force and the frame rate was also in the 90 FPS range. In addition, I did not find much overheating even after playing heavy games for a long time.

In terms of the amount of memory, not everything is as good here as in real flagship devices. For example, there is a version for 6 and 128 GB, 8 and 128 GB, 8 and 256 GB of memory. At the same time, the read speed was 500 MBps, and the write speed was about 270 MBps.

Wireless communication is also not so critical here. Look, there is a Bluetooth 5.2 version onboard the device, a 6-generation dual-band Wi-Fi module, but it is used only on the 5G version, but 4G uses standard Wi-Fi ac. I can also highlight the presence of an NFC module for contactless payment of goods. Also, I have not had any problems with the work of the GPS module.

Inside the body of the smartphone was installed the modern and latest version of the Android 11 operating system with the MIUI 12 user interface. During my testing, I did not find any significant problems with the operability of the user interface. But I can note the presence of a large number of installed applications, more than 2 GB of memory. Otherwise, the operating system ran quickly and without any lag.

Camera and sample photos

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G device received three main camera modules, as well as the 4G version, by the way. Only there is a difference between these smartphones and it refers to the front camera. For example, the selfie camera on the 5G version of the smartphone received a 20-megapixel resolution. But the 4G version has a 16-megapixel camera module.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

Well, as far as the main camera is concerned, the main sensor on both versions has a 64MP resolution with an f/1.8 aperture. You can see examples and the quality of images in the album below. I liked how the main camera shoots. Since the photos were very lively, bright, and detailed. Noises were present at night, but not significant.

The second camera module has a resolution of 8 megapixels and was created for ultra-wide shots. Here I can note that the quality of photos is not the highest during the ultra-wide mode. The third sensor is used for macro photography and has a 5-megapixel resolution.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

In terms of video quality, I had no major problems. At the same time, the maximum video resolution was 4K and 30 frames per second of the main sensor. But the front camera shoots video with a resolution of 1080p and 60 or 30 frames per second. It is also worth noting about the presence of video stabilization – gyro-EIS.

Battery test and working time

The result in the Work 2.0 Battery life test showed a value of 10 hours with the screen on the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G model. In general, this is a good result for a modern smartphone. But I cannot call this value high, since there are smartphones with more durable batteries.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

On average, you will be able to use the device for about 1.5 days with active use. This is actually a good result for this class of devices.

I should also note that the full charge time from 7 to 100% took me 61 minutes. It’s pretty fast, but don’t forget the 33W fast charging.

Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons

The almost real flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G has received slight changes when compared with its older brother Xiaomi Mi 11. Yes, the 4G version may be a little simpler than the 5G version. But finding a great smartphone with good performance will be hard.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

The other day I was able to test the Poco F3 and for me, the new model of the light version of the Mi 11 Lite became very similar, both in appearance and in the quality of performance.

The first thing I liked about the new smartphone from Xiaomi is the very lightweight, which does not exceed 160 grams and a slim body of less than 7 mm. In turn, the build quality and the materials used were completely fine with me. I can also highlight a very bright and rich AMOLED screen with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite Review: What's Difference Between 4G and 5G Version

In addition, the performance of the Mi 11 Lite 5G smartphone remained at a very high level, as did its main camera module with 64MP resolution.

But the module for ultra-wide shots did not really please me this time. Also, I can attribute to the disadvantages – this is the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack and the presence of a lot of extraneous installed programs.

Price and where to buy cheaper?

As I said at the beginning of the review, I’ll leave the cost for the 4G version, since the 5G version is not yet available. But as soon as a version with a 5G network appears, then I will definitely update the information. Of course, I recommend this model for purchase, as it will be difficult to find a better quality device.

From April 6, 2021, you will be able to order and purchase the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite for only $299.99 for version 6 and 64 GB of memory. But the version for 6 and 128 GB of memory will cost you $329.99.
