After several successful models of wireless earbuds, Haylou has introduced another new product – the Haylou GT5 TWS earbuds.
As for the new generation GT5, the earbuds received a slightly modified design, but at the same time, the comfort and comfortable fit remained the same.
In addition, you will see many useful features in this generation. For example, this is a large 7.2 mm driver, gaming mode with minimal latency, touch control, and good battery life.
If we talk about the cost, then at present you can get the Xiaomi Haylou GT5 at a very attractive price of about $30.
But will the new generation be able to outstrip their competitors and predecessors in terms of sound quality? I will tell you about all this in this full and in-depth review, and I want to start the test with unpacking.

Unboxing and packaging
The appearance of the box is very much like any product from Haylou. Since the packaging is made in white and blue, like its predecessors. But this is only the cover, the box itself has black cardboard.
On the front, there is a drawing of earbuds and a charging box, and on the back, there are written technical features of this model.
In the box itself is a charging case with earbuds inside, which in turn was protected by a foam rubber spacer. Also, the following components are located under the cardboard partition. This is a set of silicone ear tips, a Type-C cable, and a quick start guide.
In general, the package has everything you need, so now I propose to look at the build quality and what materials are used in their performance.
Design, build quality and materials
The new generation of Haylou GT5 earbuds has received completely identical dimensions and weight, as well as its predecessors. For example, the weight of one earbud was only 3.9 grams. Therefore, I did not have much discomfort in wearing it. I could safely wear the earbuds for more than 3 hours and after that, I didn’t feel any fatigue.
Besides, I liked them in terms of sports. I did some of my workouts with this model, for example, I jogged and worked out in the gym. So, my emotions are positive, as the earbuds coped with the tasks perfectly. At the same time, I did not have the feeling that the earbuds were about to fall out of the ear canal.
If we talk about build quality, the new generation Haylou GT5 is made of nice matte plastic. For me, this is a big plus, since matte plastic is more practical and more wear-resistant than, for example, a glossy version.
The build quality is high and I was pleasantly surprised as these are budget earbuds with a price tag of up to $30. I did not detect any extraneous sounds or squeaks during my tests.
I have not found any information on water resistance, so I would not advise you to wear the new generation GT5 in the shower or swim in the pool. But still, using them in sports will definitely not spoil this model, so they are afraid it will be superfluous.
The big difference in design was the touch panel on the outside of the earbud housing. At first glance, you might think that this is a mechanical button, but in reality, it is not. Now you will definitely have no doubts whether you pressed the touch panel correctly or not. But I’ll talk about touch control in the next section.
Also on the inside, in addition to two charging contacts, there is a proximity sensor. It is designed to pause automatically when you remove one of the earbuds from your ear canal.
As for the charging box, it also received some features that were not present in previous generations. But first, about the build quality, I liked everything here. For example, the lid opens smoothly and I did not notice a strong backlash in the open position.
The box is 66 x 44 x 28 mm in size and weighs about 38 grams. Naturally, putting it in your jeans pocket won’t be a problem. But I want to note that the dimensions and weight have increased slightly. I think this is due to the wireless charging, which is located at the bottom of the case.
On the front, there are three LED indicators for charge level, and on the back, there is a Type-C port for charging.
Connection, latency, and touch control
Like most TWS earbuds, the new Haylou GT5 has received Bluetooth wireless connectivity with version 5.0. At the same time, audio codecs such as AAC and SBC are used onboard.
During my tests, I did not find any significant problems with the connection quality. The signal between the earbuds and the smartphone was always stable, even over a distance of about 10 meters. The earbud connection can be either with one earphone or with two.
In addition, the earbuds received a special game mode. When you activate this mode, you can safely play games without any questions. I ran a few shooters like PUBG Mobile and the lag when firing was almost imperceptible.
The touch control works adequately and I had no problems using it. For example, one-touch causes play or pause, double touch – flipping through music and triple touch on the left headphone calls voice control, and on the right – switching operating modes. There are two modes on the earbuds – standard and game mode.
Sound and microphone quality
The 7.2 mm driver is responsible for the sound quality in Haylou GT5 earbuds. For me personally, the volume of the earbuds was enough. For example, listening to music at maximum volume will not be very comfortable. Yes, at maximum volume, sometimes uncomfortable sounds and creaks come out.
As for the low frequencies, there is practically no bass, but I can not call the sound bad. Since the earbuds for their class are very good. I tested a variety of TWS earbuds that were priced over $ 100 and mid-budget earbuds that were priced under $ 50. Yes, the sound of the GT5 does not match the flagship and mid-range earbuds. But as for their class of devices, they do not play badly.
To be honest, I didn’t feel much of a difference in sound quality between the Haylou GT5 and its predecessor, the Haylou GT2S.
If we talk about microphones, then there will be no miracle here either. Let’s say in quiet places the interlocutors will hear you well. But in noisy and loud places – the quality of the microphone will drop significantly.
Battery and run time
Each earbud uses a 40mAh battery capacity. Thanks to it, you are able to get the result of battery life of about 4 hours. This is at a 70% volume level.
The total battery life of the earbuds using a charging box with a capacity of 580 mAh will be up to 24 hours.
At the same time, charging time from 0 to 100% via the power cable will be about 1.5 hours, and via wireless charging about 2.5 hours.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Xiaomi Haylou GT5 is another good budget TWS earbuds that have received many additional features.
For example, when compared with previous generations, the new GT5 model received a proximity sensor with automatic pause, multifunctional touch control, and wireless charging.
But this model also has many other positive aspects – it is a comfortable fit due to its lightweight. Good soundproofing, good wireless connection, and even gaming mode.
The disadvantage, I can attribute, is that this is not the latest generation of Bluetooth connection, there is no protection against water and the sound quality is practically no different from its predecessors.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
You can currently get the Xiaomi Haylou GT5 earbuds at a low price for only $ 28.52. This is an advantageous offer since it will be problematic to find a worthwhile option with such specifications and features.
In addition, the cost of this model is almost the same as its predecessors. Therefore, I can definitely recommend this model of wireless earbuds from Haylou.
