As you may have noticed, I mainly test a large number of inexpensive budget projectors. But today a very interesting and rather expensive device came to my review. This is Xiaomi Changhong C300 DLP 3D Projector.
In this article, you will learn about the main features of the flagship LED projector with native Full HD resolution. Also, I will tell you about its main advantages and disadvantages. I think each of you understands that absolutely any device has some negative sides and the new Changhong projector as well.
Now let’s tell you the price tag for the Changhong C300 projector, which was quite a small amount of $700. You may immediately think about what I would pay such a lot of money for a Full HD projector. Yes, and most of the other competitors from China will cost you a maximum of $250. Therefore, let’s figure out what features we have to pay that kind of money for.
The Changhong projector achieved a maximum brightness level of 800 lumens. The device also has a built-in MediaTek MT9652 processor with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. And the control is carried out on the basis of the Android operating system.
Other features I can attribute are stereo sound with two 5W speakers, a very low noise level, and the presence of an autofocus function. At first glance, this is not a very eye-catching projector, but let’s look at it from a practical perspective.

Unboxing and packaging
The Xiaomi Changhong C300 projector comes in a bright yellow box with a black cover. On the front, you can find only the model name, and on the side faces information about the company, serial number, and production date.
Inside the package, I found – the projector itself, which was packed in protective foam. At the bottom of the box are the rest of the equipment. For example, this is a manual, a 120W power adapter, and a beautiful remote control.
As you can see, compared to other models of projectors, the equipment from the Changhong brand is not the greatest. Let’s say I didn’t find an additional HDMI cable and an audio cable inside the package, as is the case even in budget projectors for $100. But the appearance of the packaging and the quality of the materials used speaks of premium quality and also that you have a really expensive device.
Design, quality of materials used, and assembly
The appearance of the Xiaomi Changhong C300 projector is somewhat similar to the XGIMI H2 model. But I cannot call the Changhong device for the XGIMI model an exact copy. There are some other design differences between the two projectors.
For example, on the front part, there is an LED lens in the central part. There is a sensor near the lens for autofocusing. Here we can note a small drawback – the lens itself is not protected by an additional cover or flap.
Therefore, over time, the lens can be damaged and dust will often accumulate on its surface, for example, when you are not using the projector. In its lower part, there is a strip with imitation of perforation.
As for the build quality, I did not find any comments or complaints at all. I also liked the matte dark gray plastic used. It leaves no fingerprints at all. Overall, I really liked the build quality and materials.
A single button was installed on the top surface – this is the power button and there is also a logo of the name of the Changhong company. Maybe the manufacturer wanted to make the projector look minimalistic. But I would like to have a large number of buttons on top of the device like more budget projectors do. Therefore, on the C300 model, the only remote control is available.
Perforated plastic is located on the right and left side of the projector body. Through small holes, you can see a speaker on each side of 5 W of power and also elements of the cooling system. I will talk about the sound quality and noise level a little later.
If cold air enters through the side faces, then hot air comes out through the end of the Changhong C300 projector body. In addition, through the holes, you can see the cooling radiator of the device.
The main external connections are located just above. These include a power port, S/PDIF optical signal, Ethernet LAN port, USB port, HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones. There is also an infrared sensor for the remote control nearby.
There are four anti-slip rubber feet on the bottom of the projector. The legs themselves received a threaded connection and they can be unscrewed and thereby install a special bracket for the wall or ceiling. There is also a threaded connection for a tripod in the central part.
As for the dimensions, the dimensions of the Changhong C300 were 198 x 192 x 123 mm, and the weight was about 2.08 kg. It is a truly compact and small projector that can be easily transported. But I cannot call it portable, since the device is powered by a power cable. That is, there is no built-in battery for powering the device.
The last thing I want to talk about in the design section is the look of the remote control. It is made of the same matte plastic as the projector itself and I have no complaints at all about the build quality. The remote has received the minimum number of buttons to control the user interface.
I also want to note that there is a diamond-shaped button on the remote control and it serves to automatically focus the projection image. The remote control is powered by two AA batteries and the batteries themselves are not included in the kit.
Projection image quality, settings, and user interface
First, I think it’s worth talking about the stuffing that is used on the new Changhong C300 projector. The heart of the device is the MediaTek MT9652 processor. This chipset is powered by four ARM Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 1.4 GHz. For simple tasks, the MT9652 chipset is enough for the head.
In addition, you can easily play simple games thanks to the built-in graphics accelerator Mali-G52. I think your kids will definitely be happy to play their favorite games on the big screen of the projector.
I was also pleasantly surprised by the good wireless options. Onboard the projector, the manufacturer has installed dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 versions for connecting additional accessories. For example, using a Bluetooth connection, you can connect a wireless mouse, joystick, and even a keyboard. In addition, the device can be used as a wireless speaker with a switched off LED lens.
I can also note the presence of 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. Perhaps the built-in memory is not as much as many users would like. Since the main part of the memory is occupied by the operating system, I think we need to talk a little about its capabilities and settings.
Thus, Changhong C300 runs on the Android 9 version operating system with a CHiQ7 user interface. It received a very intuitive and simple design, so not only an adult user can figure it out, but also a 3-year-old child as well.
The main screen of the user interface consists of several icons. These include media resources, TV manager, clearing cache and memory, various applications, settings, resource selection, and even the function of broadcasting from a mobile screen to a projector.
Initially, two applications were installed out of the box – this is Google Chrome and children’s YouTube. There is also an application store where you can install the standard version of YouTube, video players, other programs, and even games.
The most interesting feature is the settings menu, where you can customize different color schemes to suit your taste and color. For example, in the image section, you can set the brightness level, adjust colors, contrast, and much more. Also in this section, there are features such as motion optimization, dynamic noise reduction and depth, smart filter.
There are many interesting features in the sound section – this is the Dolby system adjustment. Here you can boost the bass, get clearer sound and voice.
Also in the settings, there is an Internet section where you can set up a wireless connection via Wi-Fi or set up a wired connection. There are also system settings, for example, here you can select the language of the user interface, adjust the time, set auto power-off, and much more.
The most useful section in the settings is the projection screen setup. Here you can flip or mirror the projection image.
Another interesting feature is the keystone image correction setting. In this model, this parameter received a very wide range of settings. You can change the angles of inclination either by four points or by eight. At the same time, the quality of the picture is practically not lost, since the keystone image correction works according to the digital method.
Before moving on to the quality of the projection image, I would like to talk about the level of noise and sound quality. I really liked one important point – this is how the projector works, or rather, what level of noise it emits.
In my case, the maximum noise level at a distance of 10 cm from the projector was 32 dB. At the same time, the brightness and operating modes were the highest and I did not use the energy-saving mode. That is, the noise from the emitted projector is very small and most budget projectors cannot be compared with it.
As for the work of the speakers, each of them received the power of 5W. Naturally, this stereo sound and the sound quality on the Changhong C300 is very good. For example, the treble had very high detail, and the projector had good and spacious bass.
As I said, the C300 has a native resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. During my testing, the quality of the 100-inch projection screen was just high. The detail was excellent and it felt like I was using a laser projector rather than an LED one. To achieve a screen size of 100 inches, the projector had to be positioned 2.5 meters away. But the maximum size of the projection screen can be 300 inches.
The autofocus function works very well. I had no need to adjust the focus manually. In addition, this function focuses the image quickly and without any problems, even if you frequently change the distance from the projection screen.
I also liked the value of the brightness and contrast levels. The maximum brightness level was 800 ANSI lumens, and the contrast ratio was 8000: 1-10000: 1. Therefore, even in the daytime, you can watch movies or play games without any problems. But the best element, as for any projector, is complete darkness. Thus, the best way to achieve complete darkness is to use blackout curtains.
If you are gamers, then with a connected game console, you will have a lot of fun during shooters. The refresh rate was 60 Hz, but I can’t say that the picture was floating and blurry.
Even in dynamic scenes, the picture quality was clear and well detailed.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
After a full acquaintance with the Xiaomi Changhong C300 projector, I was left under very positive emotions. Now I understand why many users have come to love this projector model.
On the positive side, I can attribute it to a very high build quality, materials used, and of course the projection screen. I can also note the presence of an ideal sound, which has good bass and clear sounding high frequencies.
Naturally, the level of brightness of the projection picture is quite high and it will be comfortable to use the projector even in the daytime. Other than that, I liked the autofocus function, the keystone image correction, and the very low noise level.
I really liked the projector during my acquaintance and testing, but there are also disadvantages here. For example, there is only one power button on the projector body and there are no other control buttons. And also there is no protective cap for the LED lens. But the main drawback is its cost and let’s talk about it in more detail.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
The Xiaomi Changhong C300 is currently priced at $ 698.36 with a 21% discount.
Yes, the cost of a Changhong projector is not the sweetest, but when compared with the main competitors, the price tag is quite justified. Thus, if you have been looking for a quality projector for home use for a long time, then Changhong C300 is a good choice.
