Another new router from Xiaomi was recently presented and already now it came to me for a test and this is Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350.
But in this review, I want to compare the new router model with its previous models such as Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600, Xiaomi Router AX1800, and Xiaomi Redmi AX5. For anyone interested, you can read my comparative article of these routers at the link here.
The most important difference between these routers and the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 model is the Wi-Fi version. Since our today’s hero belongs to the Wi-Fi of the 5th generation, and the other listed models belong to the sixth generation of Wi-Fi 6.
Despite this fact, in this article, I will tell you whether it is worth buying more Wi-Fi 5 routers if you can buy Wi-Fi 6 for the same price. If we are already talking about the price, then the new Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 will cost you a little more than $ 47.
From a technical point of view, even the new fifth-generation router boasts good coverage thanks to seven built-in antennas. In addition, the maximum permissible speed is not worse than that of Wi-Fi 6 – it is 2183 Mbps. I can also mention the presence of a Qualcomm chipset, the use of an AIoT antenna, and the MU-MIMO function.
So, let me start my detailed test by unpacking and give my opinion on the signal quality and show the results of my tests.
Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350: Specifications
|Xiaomi Mi AIoT Router AC2350||Specs|
|Dual band||2.4GHz, 5GHz|
|Operating system||Independent AIoT Antenna|
|Wireless standard||IEEE 802.11a/b/ g/n/ac|
Unboxing and packaging
The new generation of the router comes in two versions. This is for the Chinese market and international market or with global firmware. Therefore, the appearance of the box will be slightly different and it is worth paying attention to before buying.
I have a global version in my review of AIoT Router AC2350. In this case, the box is made using white, black, and orange colors. On the front, there is a drawing of the device itself, and on the left side, there is the name of the router with a list of the main features.
There are not many components inside the box. Naturally, this is the router itself in a cellophane film, a rather massive power adapter, an Ethernet cable, and instruction in English.
The package bundle, although not large, has everything you need for full use and settings. I also want to note that even in other models of routers from Xiaomi, the equipment was completely identical. Now let’s talk about the look, build quality, and main ports.
Design, assembly, and materials used
Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 is a stylish router that comes in two colors – white and black. As you can guess from the pictures, I have a black version and it looks pretty good.
Like other models of routers from Xiaomi, the Router AC2350 version is built in a minimalist style. To be honest, it strongly reminds me of the Xiaomi Redmi AX5 router. For example, this is the same standard appearance as most routers in the mobile market.
If you compare the AC2350 with the AX3600 or AX1800, the difference is very different. Let’s say the version of the AX1800 router does not look like a router at all, since it does not have external antennas.
If we talk about the quality of the materials, then they are pretty good. Almost all models of routers from Xiaomi have good performance and wear-resistant plastic. In this case, matte black plastic is used. It is perfectly assembled and I did not find any gaps, backlashes, or other troubles. That is, I have no strong complaints about the build quality and materials used.
I would also like to point out the large number of ventilation holes that can be found both on the top of the router and on the bottom. So, the cooling is very good and during my use, it was always at room temperature.
In addition to the ventilation holes, the Mi logo is located on the top edge. If you look at the front of the device, you can see the name of the router and two LED indicators. One of them talks about the Internet connection, and the other the work of the system itself.
On the back of the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350, there are standard ports, as for most routers. It is a power port with a reset hole, one WAN port, and three LAN ports. Each port has a Gigabit connection, which is quite typical for most modern routers in 2020.
The most important feature of the new AC2350 router is the presence of seven antennas. If we compare with the Redmi AX5 model, then the new generation should have better coverage, but I will definitely check this in tests a little later. Only I also wanted to note that three antennas are responsible for the 2.4 GHz signal, and the other four for 5 GHz.
Ok, now let’s take a look at the technical component of the new router and I will also tell you how to connect it via a mobile application or PC.
Performance, features, first connection, and speed tests
As I already mentioned, the new Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 is powered by the Qualcomm chipset. In addition, the device received 128 MB of RAM and support for up to 128 connected gadgets at the same time.
Another worth mentioning is the MU-MIMO function. This feature will provide a smoother experience when multiple users are using the same router at the same time.
The router also received a gigabit WAN port and three gigabit LAN ports. Thus the data transfer rate will be very fast and most importantly stable.
Now I’ll tell you about the declared maximum speed. The AIoT Router AC2350 operates on dual bands. The manufacturer guarantees 450 Mbp/s when using a 2.4 GHz network and about 1733 Mbps at a frequency of 5 GHz. If we compare the indicators with Wi-Fi 6, then the difference is quite significant. For example, flagship models have speeds of about 2400 Mbps at 5 GHz and 570 Mbps at 2.4 GHz.
When you connect the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 for the first time, you need to connect the power and connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN connector. Next, you need to go to the browser on your PC or laptop.
Next, you need to connect to the new router network 2.4 or 5.0 GHz. Then we enter the following IP address in the browser line – this is 192.168.31.1 or 192.168.28.1. Next, you need to enter a new password from the router and go through a few simple steps.
Here you can find a typical interface with many fine settings. The main screen shows the connection status and active devices connected to the router. At the bottom of the screen, there is information about the model, firmware version, MAC address, and serial number.
The main router settings menu includes five sections. The first section is general information about the router. Here you can change the network name, password, and more. In the second section, you can change the type of connection, the speed of the WAN port, and change the MAC address. In the security section, I found information about logging in and changing the administrator password for the settings panel. There is also a local network point and the last section is information about the router. In the last section, you can change the language, update the firmware, make a backup and factory reset.
I can also note that you can configure or connect the router through an application on your smartphone called Mi Fi-Wi. The basic settings and functions are exactly the same as I described above.
Another main feature of the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 is the AIoT smart antenna. It is necessary to automatically connect devices from Xiaomi. These are mainly home appliances, such as smart sockets, switches, lamps, electric kettles, and many other gadgets.
Now I will check the speed of the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350. My network supports a gigabit connection and I ran the first test near my laptop. The result is pretty good – it’s about 470 Mbps download and 640 Mbps upload.
I will conduct the second test at the farthest point in my apartment. The distance was approximately 15 meters from the router.
If my old TP-Link router could not pick up a signal at all, then the new router from Xiaomi showed good speed. That’s 62 Mbps download and about 81 Mbps upload.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 is not a bad router for its price. The first main feature is its global firmware. Here you will not find Chinese characters as on models of routers from Xiaomi, only with Wi-Fi 6 technology.
Apart from that, I liked the signal coverage. In my test, even the distant point of the apartment showed good data transfer rates. And all thanks to seven antennas that are installed on the body of the device.
On the negative side, I can point out that this is not Wi-Fi 6 technology, as for the 2020 release. Therefore, the maximum allowed speed will not be the highest. But if you have gigabit Internet, then you will not get more than 1000 Mbps from your provider, even if you use a wired connection.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can purchase a new model of the Xiaomi AIoT Router AC2350 at a low price for only $ 47.49.
But if you are not afraid of Chinese characters, then I can recommend routers with Wi-Fi 6 technology. I’ll leave the list of routers below.
