Umidigi two months ago introduced a new smartphone model called Umidigi A9 Pro. But only now it has officially begun to be sold. It’s good that I made a preliminary order at the beginning of the release, so now I can share with you my emotions about this device.
If the appearance of the Umidigi A9 Pro and A7 Pro models remained identical, the technical component is completely different. In this review, you can find out about all the main advantages, disadvantages, and in general, whether the new model is worth your attention or not.
First of all, I want to tell you about the price tag. Currently, two versions of the modification are available – these are 4 and 64 GB of memory with a cost of $119. Also, you can buy 6 and 128 GB versions, but already more expensive – for $139.
The main features I can attribute are the Helio P60 processor, 6.3-inch Full HD screen, an infrared sensor for temperature measurement. And also the device received a 48-megapixel main camera and a 24-megapixel selfie camera, a decent battery capacity of 4150 mAh, and many other features.
That the smartphone looks good in terms of specifications, but will it do well during real use? So, let me start my in-depth and open review by unpacking.

Unboxing and packaging
Recently, Umidigi has decided to redesign the box’s appearance. If you remember almost all smartphones were shipped in identical black packaging, but now I already receive a second or third smartphone in white.
On the front of the package, there is only the company logo, but on the back, there is a list of technical features.
Everything inside the package is standard, as for a budget device up to $130. In addition to the smartphone itself, I found a silicone transparent case, instructions, and a SIM needle. At the bottom of the box are a Type-C cable and a 10W power adapter.
Although on a typical package, I didn’t like a few things. This is the presence of a transparent budget silicone case. If you remember that previous generations had a black silicone case that not only looked cool but was also good in quality. Also, I didn’t like the power of the power adapter.
Design, build quality and materials
As I said, the appearance of the Umidigi A9 Pro is almost the same as the previous generation Umidigi A7 Pro. But I am not disappointed at all, since the past generation had a good design with premium materials in its performance.
For example, the back and front sides are made of 2.5D rounded glass, and the frame is made of metal. That is, the quality of workmanship and materials used is almost as good as the flagship models.
In fact – the smartphone really not only looks good but is also assembled with high quality. For example, when scrolling, the device did not emit extraneous sounds or squeaks. The buttons also had a good move with good responsiveness.
If you were looking for an inexpensive smartphone that will have quality materials in its performance, then the Umidigi A9 Pro model will be a good choice. Although I do not see a strong superiority when compared to plastic. Since plastic is more practical and even if the device falls on a hard surface, plastic has a chance to survive, but glass does not.
On the back of the Umidigi A9 Pro smartphone is a set of quad main camera modules. There is also an LED flash and an infrared sensor for measuring body temperature. At the same time, a fingerprint sensor was installed in the central part. The latter sensor works adequately and the response time is fast.
The control buttons are all standard. On the right side, there is a power button and a volume rocker. But on the left side, there is a slot for dual nano-SIM cards and a microSD memory card, as well as one more custom button. Here I liked that the slot is not hybrid and you can use dual SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.
At the bottom of the device, there is a Type-C connection, a speaker, a microphone hole, and even a 3.5 mm audio jack. There is nothing on the upper end.
As for the front, the Umidigi A9 Pro has a typical 6.3-inch screen with Full HD resolution or 2340 x 1080 pixels. I think that this screen has been used since the Umidigi A5 Pro generation and I don’t see a strong change at all. Even the screen size is the same as its aspect ratio – 19.5: 9.
At the same time, the frames around the screen are small, if we talk about the sides. But at the bottom of the screen, the bezel is quite large. Above you can see the waterdrop notch for the front camera.
Overall I liked the quality of the screen, colors look realistic, the screen is bright enough even in bright sunlight, and the viewing angles are wide.
The last thing I want to talk about in this section is the dimensions of the Umidigi A9 Pro. The device received dimensions – 158.7 x 74.9 x 8.6 mm, while the weight is about 205 grams. It is quite comfortable to hold in the hand and the thickness of the case is insignificant. But if you wear a silicone case, the thickness will be greater. In general, the smartphone fits well in the hand, but it will not be comfortable to use with one hand.
Performance, benchmark tests, and OS
Almost every user is already familiar with the Helio P60 processor, as it is popular in the class of budget smartphones. Therefore, this particular chipset is used inside the Helio P60 Umidigi A9 Pro case.
It received eight cores in its performance, where four main cores Arm Cortex-A73 and four energy-saving Arm Cortex-A53 at 2.0 GHz operating frequency. I can’t say anything bad for this processor, as it shows good results for its class.
Below you can see the test results of various benchmarks of the new Umidigi A9 Pro smartphone. On my own behalf, I note that the processor copes with the tasks well and without unnecessary questions.
If you love to play games, believe me, even heavy games will not be a problem for the A9 Pro. For example, I easily launched PUBG Mobile, Call Of Duty, and others, but this at low or medium graphics levels. Even after one hour of gaming, the device barely warmed up, and the processor temperature was within 55 degrees.
As I already mentioned, the smartphone comes in two versions – this one with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. There is also a version with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. Both options are suitable, so when choosing, only focus on your budget.
As for the operating system, the latest version of Android 10 is used onboard the Umidigi A9 Pro. It has received many useful features and functions. But the most important thing I want to tell you about the temperature measurement sensor. It is located in a separate tools folder. After launching it, you will be able to measure the temperature of not only a person but also inanimate objects. In general, the thermometer works well and shows a realistic data result.
The user interface itself works without any questions. Each swipe is smooth and apps open quickly.
If we talk about wireless features, then the device received Bluetooth 4.2 versions, a dual-band Wi-Fi module, and a fast GPS connection. But there is no NFC module onboard the device.
Camera and sample photos
The main camera on the UMIDIGI A9 Pro received the main quad-camera modules. The main sensor has a 48-megapixel resolution with an aperture of f/1.79 and uses a module from Sony. I would like to note that the quality of the photos taken with the main sensor is very good. At night, the photos look pretty good and even the light from the lamps is not illuminated.
The second sensor is designed for ultra-wide shots and has a resolution of 16 megapixels. If with good lighting the photos were of high quality, then at night the quality of the photos dropped.
The third and fourth modules have a 5-megapixel resolution for macro and bokeh shots. Macro mode works from 2 centimeters away, while portrait mode blurs the background well.
In addition, the selfie camera has a 24-megapixel resolution. At the same time, the quality of the photos is very good, even at night. Therefore, selfies will be of high quality for your social networks. Naturally, below I will leave an album with examples of photos of the UMIDIGI A9 Pro smartphone.
Battery and run time
UMIDIGI A9 Pro uses a 4150mAh battery inside the case. If you remember, the previous generation A7 Pro had exactly the same capacity.
As my practice has shown, with the active use of a new smartphone at the end of the first day, I still have 15% of the charge level. At the same time, I used it very actively, that is, I played games, conducted benchmark tests, and even conducted camera tests. If you use your smartphone less aggressively, the smartphone will be able to live comfortably for about 2 days.
In general, the battery life is decent, as for its class, but here there is also a drawback. This is that it will take you about 2.5 hours to charge the device as it only uses a 10W power adapter.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
UMIDIGI A9 Pro is not just a modern smartphone at an affordable price but also has good performance.
In addition, the smartphone has received a number of other positive features. For example, I can refer to them – this is a good screen quality with Full HD resolution, a large amount of memory, a camera with 48- and 24-megapixel resolution. I also liked the battery life.
Although I cannot call the A9 Pro smartphone perfect. Because the disadvantages are also enough. For example, I met a smartphone with a transparent budget silicone case. Further, I did not like the charging time, as it is slow.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can buy the UMIDIGI A9 Pro smartphone at an attractive price – it is $139.99 for 6 and 128 GB of memory.
There are now many competitors for the new A9 Pro smartphone. For example, this is a new smartphone from Poco – the M3 model. Therefore, below I will leave links to the main competitors, and you can compare the listed smartphones with the new UMIDIGI.
