Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

Android phone manufacturers usually create families within their catalogs in which they position phones according to their price or specifications.

The smartphone we review today falls into this third generations and is that the Ulefone Power 3 is the successor of the mobile of this company that stood out for its autonomy, hence its name, and this year’s model does not want to be less.

This is where the Ulefone Power 3 comes into play. This costs just $300, but should definitely score with a high-end performance. On paper, this also manages with a 6.0-inch borderless display, 6GB RAM, 64GB memory, 21 and 5-megapixel dual camera, etc.

Let’s take a look at this in a review. Can the Ulefone Power 3 convince here?

Ulefone Power 3: Design and Appearance

The Ulefone Power 3 can convince with its design right from the beginning. This is very simple, but it is completely flawless.

The metal frame feels very valuable and solid. All parts fit together perfectly, nothing wobbles or rattles.

Although the Ulefone Power 3 in our review is only 9.9mm thick, the camera module is not far out of the case. The case is very stable, which quickly becomes apparent when trying to bend the Ulefone Power 3.

The smartphone will easily withstand everyday stress. The only flaw, if one feels this as such, is the back of the smartphone.

This is made of metal but comes in contrast to the front without fat-repellent coating, therefore. As a result, the Ulefone Power 3 is a real dirt magnet at the rear.

On the other hand, this also has an advantage: The Ulefone Power 3 is safer in the hand. Grease-repellent coatings tend to provide some lubricity.

In the size comparison, it depends on what you compare the Ulefone Power 3, whether it wins or not. One thing is for sure: for a 6 inches smartphone, the China phone is quite compact, with both the height (159mm) and the width (75.9mm) approximating the average of 5.5 inches smartphones.

For comparison: A Ulefone Gemini Pro comes to 156 x 76.8mm. However, comparing the Ulefone Power 3 in our analisis with its relatives, it is no record holder in the field of Full View / Infinity Display devices or Tri-Bezel-Less Smartphones.

For comparison: The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 comes on dimensions of 151.8 x 75.5mm. In height, the difference is clearly visible (5.7mm).

In everyday life, however, this makes no difference for us. Much more serious is the weight because this is where the Ulefone Power 3 simply adds up. A whopping 210g is just too much.

Ulefone Power 3: Display

With Full HD Plus resolution, the Ulefone Power 3 has a razor-sharp appearance. And otherwise, there is hardly anything to complain about on the display.

In terms of color, the presentation is convincing, but it tends to have something in the cold direction at the factory.

Unfortunately, you can not readjust with MiraVision because the technology was not implemented.

In turn, the panel can score with a neat contrast and stable angles. And it’s bright enough for outdoor use.

In terms of the touch screen, the Ulefone Power 3 is the best smartphone ever made by the manufacturer.

With most cheap China phones you can feel a clear difference to the big players. Not so with the Ulefone Power 3.

The touchscreen reacts not only extremely precise but also fast. An input delay is barely noticeable and fast typing never becomes a joke.

In addition, the front glass has to offer a pleasant lubricity. The smartphone has survived the key test on both sides without damage.

After several weeks of use can still find very difficult to find micro-scratches, but no deeper scratches.

Ulefone Power 3: Hardware and Performance

In terms of performance, the Ulefone Power 3 is up. The Helio P23 is actually a pretty brisk chip that is fun in everyday life.

But with Ulefone Power 3 do not always realize that. The smartphone can run very smoothly but does so only temporarily. Often the device comes to a standstill under normal use and indulges in occasional pauses for thought.

Here Ulefone should optimize as quickly as possible so that the Ulefone Power 3 feels rounder.

If you like to play challenging titles and value good graphics, you should stay away from the Ulefone Power 3.

We’re not sure if it’s about the optimization or the higher display resolution, but challenging games are not fluently playable on the Ulefone Power 3, unlike Full HD devices with Helio P23 processor, unless you set the graphics settings down. Unkilled and Asphalt Xtreme, for example, are a bit jerky on high graphics settings.

With the RAM you have the 6GB RAM. According to the manufacturer, this should also be equipped with LPDDR4X RAM.

The internal memory performs better, which has a size of 64GB RAM versions. With 253MB / s read speed, the memory is quite fast. However, compared to the read rate, the write rate of only 99 MB / s seems a bit slow. Satisfactory is the speed of the Micro SD reader. Here we measured 81MB / s reading and 44MB / s writing. This puts the Ulefone Power 3 above the average in the price range.

No defects could be found in the sensors. The Ulefone Power 3 offers a compass and a gyroscope in addition to the standards. Both have always worked in the test without dropouts.

The gyroscope is very accurate and works without jitter or other problem areas. This makes it ideal for VR applications or for watching 360° videos.

Ulefone did not quite live up to the expectations of the back-mounted fingerprint scanner. This works with Ulefone Power 3, although no significant dropouts, the speed leaves with an unlocking time of just under a second to be desired. In the past, Vernee has shown that you can do that much better (Vernee Apollo, Vernee Thor E).

But there is still a praiseworthy point: the status LED. Often, this is missing on smartphones of this type, but the Ulefone Power 3 is available. It was placed on the display, to the left of the phone receiver.

The LTE can light up in blue, green and red. However, green and red are used only for the battery level. Notifications are always signaled in blue. An option for the colors does not exist in the settings.

Ulefone Power 3: Software

Ulefone OS is running on the Ulefone Power 3, which can now be found on almost all Ulefone smartphones. This is an Android stick which has been functionally enhanced here and there – similar to e.g. For Ulefone Power 3, the system is based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

The security patch is from August 2017. The functionality of Ulefone OS has not changed compared to the previous versions on other Ulefone smartphones.

So there are still few options for customizing the interface (such as the battery icon) and options for software buttons and gestures.

Optical adjustments to the system are limited to the selection in the Power menu and the Wallpaper selection. It seems to us that development is stagnating here.

With the exception of a few Google Apps, the Ulefone Power 3 comes without bloatware. It is striking that no normal gallery app is included.

Instead, Google Photos is preinstalled. If you do not want to use this app, you have to install your own gallery app first. The Google Play Store is of course also preinstalled here again and all major languages are supported by the Ulefone Power 3 – including English.

We did not notice any compatibility issues with apps on Ulefone Power 3. We could easily use our everyday apps. This also includes apps that repeatedly cause problems on China phones, such as PayPal, various banking apps, and games.

We also had no system crashes. OTA updates are supported, but we did not get a single update during the trial period. We hope that this is a positive sign. Maybe Vernee needs the time to eliminate the performance issues.

Ulefone Power 3: Connectivity

The Ulefone Power 3 has proven to be a loyal companion in mobile communications. The mobile reception is really good and could convince even on the train. Volume 20 LTE works perfectly and also VoLTE was easily usable. The Ulefone Power 3 is still very well in poorly developed areas.

Unfortunately, it looks completely different in the WLAN. The reception is unfortunately only mediocre. A floor below the router breaks the bandwidth partly massive, depending on where you stand.

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

In one place, the network works fine, a few inches further there is suddenly a massive slump in speed. Partly we also had crashed on the lower floor. There were no abnormalities in the Bluetooth performance.

The GPS is unfortunately not really useful. In the countryside, it works reasonably, unless the reception is restricted by external influences (bad weather, trouser pocket).

But once you are surrounded by buildings, you can step in the GPS in the bin. When tracking the recorded route is like a wild scribble and while navigating the waypoint jumps repeatedly on roads where he has no business.

Ulefone Power 3: Voice quality and Audio

The mono media speaker from Ulefone Power 3 sounds disappointing. The volume is mediocre.

Nevertheless, the loudspeaker scrapes clearly from 80% of the maximum volume and sounds very uncomfortable. Basses are missing completely.

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

The sound is very spongy. The signal on the headphone port provides a decent volume but sounds very dull and bass-heavy.

Ulefone Power 3: Camera

Ulefone has long refused to join the dual camera trend. And rightly so, because the dual cameras bring in estimated 99% of smartphones nothing. All the more surprising is that now in the Ulefone Power 3 sets to a dual camera and builds exactly the same crap as most other manufacturers.

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

A lot is promised, but only a little. The main camera consists of an unknown 21MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture. Optical zoom does not exist contrary to advertising (“Telephoto Lens”).

The dynamics could be a little better, but apart from that, we can not complain in the price range.

It will be disappointing if you make the dual camera. The bokeh effect is the usual blurred area with a sharp cutout, which you can adapt to the object in the middle. It is not a real bokeh effect that uses any kind of depth detection. The second camera is not necessary for this.

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

Insufficient is the performance of the front camera. Instead of the advertised 13.0MP + 5.0MP with f/2.2 aperture. The quality leaves much to be desired and is especially unusable indoors.

Ulefone Power 3: Battery

The Ulefone Power 3 in our test is equipped with a 6080mAh battery. An external measurement came close to this value, so there is no reason for us to doubt the value.

The running time itself is okay, although it breaks records. But a couple days is always possible, sometimes even more. Pleasantly fast, the charging goes on stage. In 2.5 hours, the battery is charged from 0 to 100%.

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

One is however forced to use the supplied power supply. We loaded the Ulefone Power 3 with another PE + charger at the beginning, charging for 15.5 hours. The same applies if you use a normal power supply without fast charging. Even then we measured the 15.5 hours again.

Ulefone Power 3: Conclusions and Reviews

The Ulefone Power 3 in our reviews has some very nice features. Are you looking for a good middle-class smartphone with a large display and high performance? Then the Ulefone Power 3 in the $300 price range is currently the pretty best choice!

Ulefone Power 3 Review: Strong and Huge Battery 6080 mha for Decent Price

The large 6.0-inch display with very narrow edges and the 18: 9 form factor is, of course, the outstanding feature of the Ulefone Power 3. This is ideal for all intense smartphone users.

But even offside, the Ulefone Power 3 can certainly convince! The feel and look of the smartphone are very good. Something like that would have gone through a few years ago as a flagship smartphone and also in 2017/2018 the feel for a $300 smartphone is above average.
