Ulefone Armor 10 Review: First Rugged 5G Smartphone

Ulefone is one of those companies that make quality rugged smartphones. Today I’m testing the latest rugged device called the Ulefone Armor 10 5G.

In this review, I will tell you about my impression of the performance, run a number of benchmark tests, and show examples of photos. Therefore, if you want to know the main pros and cons, and also ask the question, do you need such a smartphone? Then you can find out about all this from this full review.

A little about the price, as most of the flagship devices with 5G network support have a price tag of over $500. In the case of the new Ulefone Armor 10 5G model, the price will be slightly lower, namely $400.

For this price, you get a fully rugged smartphone that is not afraid of water, shock, or falls. In addition, the device received a modern and efficient Dimensity 800 chipset from MediaTek. Of course, there is a 64MP main camera and a large 5800mAh battery.

Thus, I propose to begin my full and in-depth review. The first thing I want to know is the packaging, so let’s talk about unboxing.

Unboxing and packaging

Like the entire Armor line of rugged smartphones, the new generation of Armor 10 has received the same type of bright packaging. This is a standard size box, which is made in yellow. And on the front, there is only the name of the company, model and its main features.

On the back of the box, there are icons with the main technical characteristics. These are IP68 / IP69K protection, 6.67 inches Full HD screen, and others. I will tell you more about all the functions below.

Inside the box is the smartphone itself in a protected cellophane film. Also in a separate envelope, there is a protective glass for the screen, a set of documentation, and a needle for a SIM tray. At the very bottom of the package is a 15W power adapter, a Type-C to 3.5mm adapter, and a Type-C power cable.

I really liked the package bundle, I was very glad to see the presence of protected glass, and lately – its presence is a common occurrence from Ulefone.

Design, build quality and materials

It is difficult to find a rugged smartphone that is light and thin. The same goes for the Ulefone Armor 10 5G model. This is a large smartphone, it measures 176.5 x 82.8 x 14.55 mm and weighs about 335 grams.

Naturally, using such a smartphone will not be very comfortable. But don’t go to great lengths to keep your case completely protected from drops, water, and even dust. The standard IP68 / IP69K protection has been used on the new flagship smartphone.

The build quality is at an ideal level, nothing will hold it together and it emits extraneous sounds. According to the materials, the Armor 10 received a metal case with protected rubber, both on the back panel and on the side ends. Thus, in case of falls, the smartphone will definitely survive.

The back panel of the smartphone has received some interesting solutions. For example, the main camera is located in the upper left corner with an LED flash. There is a fingerprint scanner in the central part and here you can see the 5G logo and company name.

The front of the device has a large 6.67-inch IPS screen with Full HD resolution or 2400 x 1080 pixels. This is a decent screen that shows very bright colors and high contrast.

But the bezels around the screen are quite large, although I have not yet seen a single rugged smartphone with minimal bezels. Overall, I liked the quality of the screen, it got realistic colors and good touch control.

A power button and a volume rocker on the right side received a standard location. At the same time, on the left side, there is a custom button that you can customize for yourself and a slot for SIM cards and memory cards.

At the bottom, a Type-C charging port is installed, which is protected under a cap. There is also a microphone hole next to it.

Yes, I forgot to talk about the speaker, it is located on the back of the smartphone at the bottom of it. Of course, this is not the best location, but the speaker plays loudly and has good sound quality. But here I was disappointed by the lack of a headphone jack. Therefore, the manufacturer put an adapter from Type-C to 3.5 mm audio jack in the package.

Performance, games, benchmark tests, and OS

In order to get support for the 5G network, you also need to get an almost flagship processor. Therefore, the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset was installed on the Ulefone Armor 10, which has a maximum core frequency of 2.0 GHz.

In addition, I liked the benchmark results. For example, in the AnTuTu test, the smartphone scored just over 300 thousand points. You can also see the album below with other benchmark tests on Armor 10.

As for the gaming abilities, the device uses a good graphics accelerator Arm Mali-G57. I’m not a very crazy player, but after half an hour of playing games, the smartphone practically did not heat up. But the performance is enough even for very demanding games at high graphics settings.

Memory is also very good, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Even if the built-in memory seems small to you, you can easily increase it thanks to a memory card up to 2 TB.

Wirelessly, it’s not that bad either. For example, the smartphone has dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and even support for fast GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo.

Like all rugged smartphones, Ulefone Armor 10 runs on Android 10. I can’t say it’s a completely clean operating system. Since it has its own interesting user interface.

I have no strong comments on his work. For example, Google apps are already preinstalled here. Also, even a complex game or program opens very quickly.

Camera and sample photos

On the back of the Ulefone Armor 10 smartphone, a very interesting main module is installed, which received a 64-megapixel resolution with an aperture of f/1.89. The quality of the photographs both in the daytime and at night is good.

The second module already has a resolution of 8 megapixels and is used for ultra-wide shots. Overall, I also liked the 118-degree wide-angle photos.

The third and fourth sensors are for macro and bokeh modes. They got a 5-megapixel and 2-megapixel resolution, respectively. The macro mode works from a distance of 4 cm, but the quality of the photos is not very attractive. The portrait mode works well and I have no comments on it.

On the front of the device, a 16-megapixel front camera was installed. It shows a good result and selfies are quite bright and saturated.

Video recording on the main camera has a maximum resolution of 4K, and on the front camera at 1080p.

Battery and run time

Almost every rugged smartphone has a good battery capacity and the Ulefone Armor 10 is no exception. For example, a 5800 mAh battery is installed inside the case.

After several days of active use, the device was discharged in 1.5 days of work. During this, I conducted such a series of tests – this was running various benchmark tests, playing games, taking photos, and filming videos. Of course, you can safely achieve results in 2-3 days.

But the charging time will take you a lot of time. The smartphone supports fast charging with a 15W power adapter. This is not the most powerful, so the charging time will take you about 2.5 hours.

Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons

Ulefone Armor 10 5G is an amazing rugged smartphone that comes with a powerful processor and a decent amount of internal storage.

Ulefone Armor 10 Review: First Rugged 5G Smartphone

On the positive side, I can attribute it to a fully protected case from water, drops, and dust. Also, the device has a large-high-quality screen with bright and saturated colors. High-end performance with a new processor. And the quality of the photos is not bad either. Besides, I can’t say anything negative about battery life on a single charge.

But it was not without its drawbacks – this is not the most compact case and weight, so at first it was a little uncomfortable for me to use it. Also, the battery charging time is not the fastest, and I do not see the point in macro shooting.

Price and where to buy cheaper?

Right now you can order the Ulefone Armor 10 5G smartphone at a tempting cost of only $399.99. But I note that further, the price tag will grow.

So, if you’ve always wanted a rugged gaming smartphone, then Armor 10 is a good choice.
