After several tests of budget wireless earbuds from Ugreen, I decided to test the brand on the more expensive TWS earbuds. Today, as you could read from the title, we will talk about the new model – Ugreen Hitune X5.
The Chinese brand Ugreen classifies its new earbud model Hitune X5 in the mid-budget class. Therefore, I had several questions about the functionality and sound quality. Thus, in this article I will tell you about the quality of workmanship, what materials are used during assembly, and also about other abilities and capabilities.
As for the cost, at the time of this writing, the price tag for the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds was about $46. But I want to say in advance that Aliexpress is celebrating its last summer sale this year from 23 August, so the cost per device will be even lower. In addition, this promotion will apply to all products from Aliexpress.
In terms of technical specs, everything is also not so bad. For example, the new earbud model Hitune X5 received the latest generation of Bluetooth 5.2 version with a Qualcomm chipset and support for aptX, AAC and SBC audio codecs. Also, the earbuds were made with an interesting design and a fairly ergonomic shape.
A 10 mm dynamic driver is used inside the body of the device and good super bass, as the manufacturer assures. In addition, I can highlight such features as gaming mode, IPX5 sweat and splash protection and decent battery life.
Thus, I propose to start my in-depth testing of TWS earbuds from the Ugreen brand in order to find out its strengths and weaknesses. So first I plan to start my full review with the look and feel and unboxing.

Unboxing and packaging
The Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds are delivered in a rather interesting, but strict packaging, which was made in black. At the same time, the box itself was made of fairly durable cardboard, and therefore the earbuds came to me for a test without any damage.
If you look at the front of the package, then only the name of the company and model is displayed on it. But on the back, there are the main technical specs with control functions and other useful information.
Inside the box, I was happily greeted by a charging case with earbuds inside. There is also a small envelope with instructions and various documentation. The manufacturer also completed a small box containing a Type-C charging cable and a set of silicone ear tips.
I really liked the package and how Ugreen is demonstrating its updated version of the Hitune X5 wireless earbuds. That is, my first impressions were positive and now I propose to take a closer look at the earbuds.
Design, build quality and materials
The first thing that makes the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds stand out is their unique appearance. In fact, the device was made of a sound guide and an oval stem. Usually, most earbuds have a thinner and more elongated stem, but here Ugreen tried to stand out and do something unique. In fact, it succeeded.
It is also worth noting that the device comes in only one color option – this is in dark blue. In addition, there is a beautiful pattern on the outer part of the earbud housing that resembles a honeycomb. The uniqueness of the earbuds is truly amazing.
As for the workmanship, the new model of Hitune X5 earbuds was made of glossy plastic. Yes, perhaps this is not the best decision on the part of the manufacturer. But during my test, I did not notice any severe abrasions after testing the device. In addition, fingerprints were not critical on the dark plastic.
I also liked the high-quality assembly, which demonstrated itself on the positive side. That is, the earbuds did not have extraneous squeaks and sounds while wearing. In addition, the device has received protection from water under the IPX5 standard. But this does not mean that you can swim with earbuds in the shower or pool, as the protection can only withstand sweat and splashes of water.
In terms of convenience, it is also not as bad as you might expect. The weight of one earbud was 5.1 grams, which is not as much as for TWS earbuds. When choosing the correct size of the ear tips from the kit, the earbuds sat quite deep in the ear canal. Therefore, it was comfortable for me to use them, both during sports and during everyday use. But do not forget that these are in-ear earbuds, so my ears asked for a break after 2 hours of wearing.
On the outside of the case of the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds, you can see touch controls with an LED indicator. But on the inside of the case, there are two contacts for charging the device. In addition, each earbud uses two microphones with cVc 8.0 noise cancellation technology. But I’ll talk about the quality of the microphone a little later.
At the same time, the sound guide itself on the new earbud model was made of matte plastic. This was done for better grip and to keep your ears from sweating as much. Also, on the base of the sound guide under the silicone ear cushion, you can find a protrusion and a metal mesh from dust and other dirt.
Okay, now let’s take a look at the charging case for the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds. Like the device itself, the charging box was made of glossy dark blue plastic. On the base of the cover is the Ugreen brand, and on the front there are three LED indicators. If you look at the back of the case, you will notice a button to check the battery level. But on the bottom of the case, there is a Type-C charging connection.
Also, I had no particular comments on the quality of the performance. Since the lid opened without a strong backlash and had a good spring. This allowed the lid to be kept open without unnecessary twitching. Now I propose to check the Hitune X5 earbuds for signal transmission quality and for its other features.
Connectivity, latency and touch functions
Wireless connection of the new version of TWS earbuds is not so sad, since the latest generation of Bluetooth 5.2 version is used here. In addition, the device received a built-in chipset from Qualcomm, namely the QCC3040. Also onboard the earbuds are aptX, AAC and SBC audio codecs.
From practice, the new model of earbuds from the Ugreen brand has shown itself from a very positive side. During my testing, the earbuds were paired with a smartphone with a strong signal and I did not reveal any problems with the signal quality. For example, in the test, the earbuds caught the signal from the smartphone through two walls and at a distance of up to 10 meters.
If we talk about the level of latency, then the earbuds have a game mode that provides really minimal latency with a mobile device. For example, using Game Mode, the Hitune X5 earbuds barely felt any lag at all in PUBG Mobile. Also, when watching video clips, there was no sound lag.
As for touch control, Ugreen has installed all the possible functionality of various control modes and let’s talk about it in more detail.
- A single touch on the touch panel will play, pause, accept or reject a phone call.
- Double tapping on the left channel of the earbud decreases the volume level, and on the right channel increases the volume.
- Triple tapping on the left earbud switches the track backwards, but on the right – forward.
- Four taps on any of the earbuds switches from music to gaming mode.
- Holding it for 2 seconds calls up the voice assistant function on your smartphone.
As you can see, there are all the functions that are possible and this may not please me. Ok, now let’s check the sound quality and its features.
Sound and microphone quality
A 10 mm dynamic driver is responsible for the sound in the Ugreen Hitune X5 wireless earbud model. This is a pretty powerful emitter for vacuum earbuds. Therefore, it is easy to guess that the volume reserve will be enough for various modes of use.
I usually listened to music at 70-80% volume, and even this limit was loud for me. If you listen to music 100%, then perhaps in the future you will damage your hearing or most likely have already damaged it.
At the same time, the low frequencies in the Hitune X5 wireless earbuds were well combined with various genres of music. Here you can find a rather deep and penetrating bass that will definitely accompany you while listening to music.
Besides, I cannot say that the middle and high frequencies played worse. Quite the contrary, the detailing of musical instruments was at a decent level and the vocalist’s voice sounded bright and dynamic.
In general, comparing the sound quality of the earbud model from Ugreen, the same sound can be found in models such as Edifier TWS330NB or even SoundPEATS T2. But there are drawbacks and I can attribute to them – this is the lack of modern functions. Such as active noise cancellation or transparency mode.
As far as microphone quality is concerned, it was of typical quality, as is the case with most earbuds in this price range. For example, in a quiet room, the quality of the microphones was very good. But in noisy places, the interlocutors, in addition to my voice, heard other extraneous sounds. That is, I didn’t really notice the correct operation of the cVc 8.0 noise reduction function.
Battery and run time
Considering that the earbuds have received a modern wireless connection with the latest version of Bluetooth 5.2, you should not expect poor battery life.
During my testing, the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbud model was easily able to run for about 6.5 hours at 70% volume. This is a very good result, although the manufacturer promises about 7 hours of battery life on a full battery charge. But this result can be easily achieved if the volume value is reduced to 50%.
In this case, the total battery life using the charging box will be up to 28 hours, depending on the conditions of listening to music.
Fast charging is not provided on the case, as well as wireless charging of the box. Therefore, a full charge of the earbuds was about 1 hour and 20 minutes, and the box itself was charged in 2 hours via a Type-C connection.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Ugreen has taken a serious leap forward with the new Hitune X5 earbud model precisely in appearance and wearing comfort.
Yes, this wireless earbud model may not have received modern features such as ANC active noise cancellation and transparency modes, but it has other advantages. For example, I liked the work of touch controls with a wide range of functions.
Also, the new generation of TWS earbuds from the Ugreen brand received good sound quality for its class of devices. In addition, the battery life of the headphones showed good results – about 7 hours on a single charge.
Of the minuses, I can single out this not very good quality of the microphone in noisy places, and I also did not particularly like the glossy plastic in my design.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Given its features and functionality, the price tag for the new TWS model of the Ugreen Hitune X5 earbuds is quite humane. For example, now you can buy a device for only $46.42 with a 35% discount.
With each new generation of wireless earbuds, the Ugreen company demonstrates very good and, most importantly, interesting devices. Therefore, if you liked the design, then I can easily recommend this earbud model for purchase.
