I haven’t tested budget projectors for a long time, but today I will fix it and tell you about one interesting option – this is the TouYinger X21.
This brand has been familiar to me for a long time and I have previously tested its other projectors, for example, the TouYinger M4 Plus and TouYinger M19. I will leave links to both models here, who will be interested to know my opinion.
Now about the new model of ultra-budget TouYinger X21 projector. The price tag starts at $90 and for this price you get some pretty good features, let me tell you a little about them.
The first thing that surprised me was the native HD resolution or 1280 x 720 pixels, and the device also received a classic design. I also liked the large size of the projection screen, which ranges from 33 to 121 inches. In addition, the brightness of the projector was 3500 lumens.
Thus, I propose to discuss the main nuances of this model in order to find out whether it is worth your attention or not.

Unboxing and packaging
This is not the first projector from the TouYinger company that comes in an interesting box.
Now about the box itself, it came to be intact and without any damage. On the front side, you can see a drawing of the device, and just below the main features. I can refer to them – this is LED 50,000 hours of operation, support for a mirror screen, HiFi speaker, zoom in or out, and others.
Inside the package, I found a well-packed projector wrapped in protective foam. Also, in addition to the projector, a remote control, an instruction manual, a lens cloth, an audio cable, and a power cable.
Considering that this is a budget and inexpensive projector, the bundle caused positive emotions. But let’s see what materials and how well the projector is assembled.
Design, build quality and materials
I already mentioned at the beginning of the review that the appearance of the TouYinger X21 is classic. But this is a small and compact projector, for example, in dimensions, it was 220 x 167 x 80 mm, and its weight was about 1.2 kg.
Of course, I cannot call it portable, as there are many other models of projectors with even smaller dimensions and weight. In addition, the X21 does not have a built-in battery, but is powered by the mains and the power consumption is only 50 W.
As for the materials of use, the entire body is made of glossy plastic. In my case, the projector is black, but there is also a white version.
Naturally, glossy plastic looks nice. But here it has many disadvantages, for example, many fingerprints remain on the case. And over time, the bullets will be clearly visible, so you often have to wipe them down. Therefore, I always prefer matte plastic, although it does not look so interesting.
As for the build quality, as strange as it sounded, I liked everything here. That is, the projector is assembled well and has no extraneous noise and squeaks.
There is an LED lens on the front of the device, which is protected by a partition. When not using the projector, so that excess dust does not settle there. Also on this edge, you can see the name of the company and the infrared indicator for the remote control.
On the back, there is another infrared indicator of the same kind. Also here I found is a hot air vent, an analog TV jack, a VGA connection, and a power port. At the bottom, there is a lever for setting the angle of inclination. It is usually installed near the focus ring, though.
In the TouYinger X21, the focus is adjusted on the top edge using a ring. Here you can also find 10 control buttons such as turning on, turning off the lens, source, reverse, control up, down, right, left, and the OK button. An interesting button here is to turn off the LED lens if you are away for a short time, but do not want to completely turn off the projector. This will allow your lens to living even longer.
The remaining external connections are located on the left side of the projector. These are HDMI port, audio output, headphone input, USB 2.0, and a slot for a microSD memory card. On the same edge, you can find a hole for a speaker and ventilation holes for hot air.
Meanwhile, on the right side, there are cold air inlets. In addition, there is a protective filter to prevent excess dust from entering the projector body. It should be cleaned periodically.
The bottom of the projector has four anti-slip feet, a tripod hole, and a tilt foot.
If we talk about the remote control itself, then on the TouYinger X21 it received a large number of buttons. The remote control is powered by two AAA batteries, which are not supplied in the kit.
Features and quality of projection screen
Many are already guessing that the TouYinger X21 projector model does not have any operating system. That is, the main screen has four sections – these are video, music, pictures, and text. After choosing a power source, in these sections, you can watch video files or listen to music.
In the settings, you can set the usual operating modes. For example, these are color and temperature correction, picture enlargement mode, rotation of the projected screen picture, sound, language selection, and others.
Before talking about the picture quality, I want to draw your attention to an important factor – the noise level. Let’s say the noise level near the projector is about 50 dB but at a distance of one meter about 37 dB. That’s a pretty good number and I think it is one of the quietest native HD projectors.
In terms of picture quality, I set the projector 2.9 meters away from the screen and the projection screen was approximately 100 inches. For me, this is the most optimal size, which does not greatly distort and spoils the picture.
Despite the fact that the native resolution of the TouYinger X21 was only 1280 x 720 pixels, there is enough clarity for comfortable use. That is, the text is readable without any problems, but I note that at a distance of 2 meters. Let’s say the closer you get to the screen, the more individual pixels you see.
I also ran the 60Hz refresh rate test and this projector performed just fine. Therefore, in games, you can even use this budget projector.
One problem with most inexpensive projectors is blurry corners on the projection screen. The same problem exists on the TouYinger X21. No matter how hard I tried, there is a slight blur in the right and left corners. Therefore, I recommend that you focus on the entire surface of the image, and not on its central part.
The color scheme is not as rich as we would like, but for that, the colors are realistic and restrained. At the same time, the contrast is not great, only 1000: 1, so black gives off a shade of gray. The rest of the colors are displayed well, for example, white is really white and has no blues and yellows.
An important point when choosing a projector is its brightness level value. In the case of the TouYinger X21 model, the brightness was 3500 lumens. Yes, this is not a record brightness, but it is enough for everyday use. For example, if you use the projector for presentations with the lights off and the blinds closed, the picture will be clearly visible. But watching movies in the daytime will not be comfortable, especially in dark scenes.
The last thing worth talking about is the sound quality. Only one speaker is used onboard the projector, but it is difficult to call it high-quality. The sound is flat and listening to it over 50% of the volume level will not be comfortable, as it will creak. Therefore, to get the most out of your movies, I recommend connecting separate speakers.
Conclusion, reviews, pros, and cons
The TouYinger X21 is another hero of the budget LED projector segment that surprised me.
When watching the video, the picture was not simple. For example, I noticed the volume of the picture, as on more expensive models. This is really great considering its cost. The colors of the transmitted image are very realistic, while the clarity is enough for comfortable viewing.
Another parameter that I pay attention to is the level of the emitted noise. In the case of the X21 model, the noise from the projector is very quiet and almost inaudible when watching movies.
Of the minuses, I can note that this is not the highest quality glossy plastic. Also, the sound quality is not the strong point of the device and I would like to see more contrast value.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can purchase an inexpensive budget TouYinger X21 projector at a relatively low cost for only $89.59 with a 20% discount.
Definitely, I recommend this projector for purchase. It is very cool to watch movies on it, and it will also be a good option for your children to watch cartoons. I think many of you know that a projector does not get tired of the eyes, like watching TV.
