Samsung Galaxy A60: Unboxing
I ordered a smartphone from China, so I got a Chinese version of the device. This is not a problem for me since in the settings you can choose any interface language.
The box is made of white cardboard, where on the front part is a drawing of a smartphone and the name of the company and model of the device.
On the back side, I can make out only the name of the device, since all the other inscriptions are in Chinese.
Inside the box, I found the following elements, such as a manual, naturally in Chinese, a protective transparent case, a SIM needle in a separate small box.
Below the smartphone itself lay in a protective cellophane film and also the screen had a protective transport film.
Next was a power adapter for 9V and 1.67A, Type-C cable and headphones with Type-C connector.
The kit for its price is good. I was pleasantly surprised by the Type-C headphone jack and you don’t need to use any adapters.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Design
The back panel of the smartphone is made of plastic, although you might think that it is glass in appearance. Of course, when you take the phone in your hands, you will understand that there can be no glass here since the weight of 168 grams is quite small.
If I’ve already talked about the back panel, I’ll note that in the upper left corner there is a triple main camera and a LED flash just below. Also in the center, there is a fingerprint scanner and the name of Samsung.
I also want to note that the sensor of the main camera protrudes a little and the phone will swing slightly on the table. Naturally, now everyone uses protective cases, and even in a standard protective case, there will be no problem of the protrusion of the camera.
Another thing about the back panel is that it is easily soiled and fingerprints are visible if you do not use the same protective case. As for me, these are minor trifles.
Of course, the main features of the Samsung Galaxy A60 smartphone in our test are the front part. The device received a large 6.3-inch screen with an Infinity-O cutout for the front camera.
Of course, it’s cool to see technology and appearance on a mid-range smartphone, like on flagship models, for example, Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy A8s.
Also, what needs to be said that the device does not have a standard conversational speaker, but uses the new Screen Sound technology. You will hear your interlocutor with the help of vibration and I will talk about the quality of the spoken speaker a little later.
As for the control buttons, they are standard, as on most devices. The power button and volume control are located on the right side of the case.
A hybrid slot for dual nano-SIM cards or one nano-SIM card and microSD memory card is located on the left side of the case.
On the bottom of the Galaxy A60, there is the main speaker, a Type-C port and a microphone.
On the top, there is only a noise-canceling microphone. As you noticed, there is no 3.5 mm headphone jack. For some people, this is a significant drawback, but for me, it does not matter at all, since I have been using wireless headphones for about one year now.
I’ll talk a little about the dimensions, the numbers say that the smartphone has 155.3 x 73.9 x 7.9 mm dimensions. I feel like I can say that this is a small smartphone, it is convenient and comfortable to use, even despite the large screen. In the hand, the Galaxy A60 lies perfectly and even using one hand will not be a big problem.
The build quality is good, during testing I did not find any squeaks, also all the gaps are the same. Even though the case is made of plastic, but this plastic is not cheap, like on most Chinese models. In appearance, if you do not hold a smartphone in your hands, you might think that the case is glass.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Screen
The main difference between the Samsung Galaxy A60 model is the screen technology since Super AMOLED will not be installed on it, as on other models of the series, for example, Galaxy A20, A30, A40, A50, and others.
Galaxy A60 got TFT screen technology – it’s not IPS like on most competitors. I want to note that the colors and brightness of the screen attracts my attention unambiguously.
Now people are divided into two categories, those who like AMOLED and those who do not like. The second is against AMOLED screens due to strong flickering and eye fatigue with prolonged use of the smartphone. Therefore, with a TFT screen, you will get the smartphone that will not lead to visual impairment, but the colors will not be as bright and contrasting as on AMOLED. Therefore, what is more, important for you to decide for yourself?
As I already wrote, the Samsung Galaxy A60 uses a 6.3-inch screen with an Infinity-O cutout for the front camera. The frames around the screen are small and the percentage of screen area on the front is 84.9%.
The device received Full HD + resolution, i.e. 1080 x 2340 pixels and the density leaves 409 PPI. In general, pixels are not visible with the naked eye and for full use – this resolution is enough for all 100%.
The screen also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It certainly will not protect against severe scratches and I recommend buying a protective glass.
The screen brightness is strong and even in sunny weather, you will not have problems with the visibility of the screen.
In the screen settings, there are a large number of functions, such as a blue filter, night mode, increasing the sensitivity of the sensor and much more.
As for me, I liked the screen with a TFT matrix, which does not lead to eye fatigue and the presence of a large number of filters and modes will allow you to use your smartphone both during the day and at night.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Hardware and Performance
Samsung only presents its models with processors such as Exynos and Snapdragon. It is good that the manufacturer does not use budget chipsets from MediaTek.
In our case, the Samsung Galaxy A60 received a Snapdragon 675 chip with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz, which works together with the Adreno 612 GPU.
This is an 11-nanometer processor that shows good results, both in real life and in synthetic tests.
What about memory? My smartphone version has 6 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, but there is also a version with 128GB of internal memory. If this memory is not enough, then you can use a microSD memory card instead of a second nano-SIM card with a capacity of up to 1TB.
Now let’s go through the tests, the Galaxy A60 in the AnTuTu test, the smartphone scored 168680 points. As for a mid-range smartphone, this is a good indicator.
If you look at the GeekBench 4 test, the result is the following 2371 and 6554 points in the single-core and multi-core tests. As you can see, the result is higher than the Galaxy Note 8 or Galaxy S8.
The 3DMark test showed 985 and 1074 points in the Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL and Vulkan test. The average FPS was about 35 frames per second.
The AndroBench application shows the speed of internal memory – 300 Mb/s for reading and 208 Mb/s for writing speed.
Now I want to tell my opinion about gaming performance. I played games like PUBG Mobile, Asphalt 9, Trial Xtreme 4 and others. The overall impression is positive since even heavy games at medium graphics settings work stably and without any delays.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Software
Although I have a Chinese version of the smartphone, the Galaxy A60 got the Android 9.0 operating system and One UI 1.1 version of the user interface.
In the memory of the smartphone, I received a large number of Chinese applications, which are very popular in the Chinese market. But you can remove all Chinese applications and easily install any other through the Play Store and configure the interface for yourself and it will not differ from the global firmware.
For example, wallpapers, fonts, animations are completely similar to the global version of the smartphone, it will be problematic to find the differences.
In addition to Chinese applications, you can find branded applications from the manufacturer Samsung. For example, the Galaxy Store, Galaxy Themes, Samsung Assistant, Samsung Health and much more. Some of them are useful, but as for me, I would delete some, since I will not use them constantly. It’s good that on the Galaxy A60 you will have the opportunity to uninstall Samsung applications.
The most important things you can worry about in the Chinese version are languages, but I want to make you happy because the languages here are not only Chinese but the presence of such languages as Russian, Italian, Spanish, German, French and many others are present.
As with most Samsung devices, in the settings, you can select a large number of functions and features. For example, gesture control, security settings, and more.
The user interface of One UI 1.1 is uniquely interesting for its large number of functions and settings. As for the work, during testing I did not find any delays or slowdowns, all bookmarks and applications open quickly.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Camera
On the back of the Galaxy A60, there are three main cameras with a 32-megapixel camera with an f/1.7 aperture. There is also an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for wide-angle shooting and a 5-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for bokeh effect.
Below I want to show a screenshot of the technical specifications and as you can see the Galaxy A60 has all three sensors in stock. Therefore, I can conclude that they all work and are not fake, as on most even the middle-class Chinese smartphones.
On the front side is a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture.
The camera application I found a large number of shooting modes, such as night, panorama, portrait, pro, photo, video, slow motion, and hyperlapse modes.
As for the photographs, I was surprised by the daytime photographs taken in sunny weather. The quality of the pictures is at a high level, the detail is good and the color reproduction is excellent.
Below you can see a couple of examples of normal mode and wide-angle shooting. Like the normal mode, the wide-angle mode also shows good quality, but with a slight distortion of the photo.
Bokeh mode or blurry background works 100% correctly and you can see the result below on an example.
I took night photos in night mode and indeed, as for the middle-class smartphone, night photos are not bad.
Samsung Galaxy A60 is capable of shooting video in 4K resolution and the video has electronic stabilization. The video quality is smooth, the detail and color reproduction at a high level.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Sound and Communication
On the bottom of the device, Samsung Galaxy A60 is a single speaker, you do not need to expect stereo sound from a middle-class device. The sound quality is good and the sound itself is neither deaf nor quiet. The sound volume is about 65 dB at a distance of 20 centimeters.
As I wrote above, the smartphone does not support a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones. But for me, this is not a problem since I have been using wireless headphones for a long time.
An interesting solution was not to see the earpiece on the front of the screen. For me, this is still not familiar, since the Galaxy A60 uses Screen Sound vibration technology to transmit sound.
In practice, it works well, but you need to get used to it because the sound is not perfect, it is a little muffled and I hear the interlocutor as if from a pipe. Although the interlocutor hears me without any problems.
Samsung Galaxy A60 uses Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless. As the test result shows about 30 and 55 Mb/s download and upload speeds. In the case of the 4G LTE network, the speed decreased slightly and the result was about 36 and 20 Mb/s.
GPS communication is also stable and the test result showed about 4-5 meters deviation and in my case, there were 21 satellites.
The Galaxy A60 supports NFC contactless payment, which is simple and easy.
You need to attach a card and choose a payment method – through a fingerprint scanner.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Battery
The battery life of the Galaxy A60 is not a strong point, but the battery capacity with 3500 mAh will be enough for the whole day to use at full load.
During testing, when I played games, watched videos on Youtube, listened to music, talked on the phone and did everyday activities, by the end of the day I had about 15% of the charge.
The charging time was about 1.5 hours through the Type-C port and the presence of fast charging 9V and 1.67A.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Conclusions and Reviews
I had a positive impression using the Samsung Galaxy A60 smartphone. Indeed, the device works at a high level, the user interface is fast and stable.
The design and build quality at an appropriate level. Although the case is made of plastic, the phone is perfectly assembled, there are no creaks and extraneous noise.
An unusual solution is the presence of Infinity-O screen and Screen Sound technology. As for me, this is not a typical solution for Screen Sound, but I understand that in the future it will help to make completely 100% of the screen area on the front.
The performance, as for its class at a high level. This also applies to synthetic tests and gaming capabilities.
Of course, I can attribute the disadvantages to not high battery capacity. But given the low consumption of the 11-nanometer processor and optimized operating system, the Galaxy A60 will last a full day.
Samsung Galaxy A60: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy a Samsung Galaxy A60 smartphone at a low and interesting price for just $219.99 using the coupon: GBSMGA60.
Given its price and its high reputation as the flagship Samsung smartphones, I can certainly recommend the device for purchase. For its price and technical characteristics, it is difficult to find something better, even if we consider Xiaomi smartphones.
