There were many smartwatches on my way, but Nubia really surprised me with their smartwatch called the Nubia Watch.
This watch received a flexible screen with large size of 4.01 inches. When I first put the watch on my wrist, it will be difficult for passers-by to guess what is on your hands. It is a truly futuristic device that definitely resembles science fiction movies.
The main issue for you maybe price. So the Nubia Watch will cost you $224. The price tag is very high for the smartwatches I’ve tested recently.
What you get with this model is a large flexible 4.01 inch AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 8909W processor, 1/8GB memory version, and 420mAh battery capacity.
Let’s figure out what the new smartwatch from Nubia is capable of. And also we will find out whether it is convenient to operate the watch and to wear it for everyday use. I want to start my full review with unpacking.

Unboxing and packaging
The Nubia Watch comes in a square box. In size, the box is slightly larger than other smartwatch models. On the front of the box, I found a drawing of a watch and its name.
I also note that the box is made of durable and thick cardboard, which has a positive effect on quality. Inside the box, the first thing I saw was the smartwatch itself in a protective cellophane film.
At the bottom of the box, I found – instructions with various documentation, a four-pin charging adapter for charging. Also included are a MicroUSB cable and a short strap.
Of course, given its cost, I’d like to see a Type-C cable here, not a MicroUSB. But a short strap is necessary for comfortable use of the watch since almost the entire surface is occupied, directly, by the screen itself. Well, I figured out the package, let’s now tell you a little about the assembly and the materials used.
Design, build quality and materials
The Nubia Watch is a one-of-a-kind smartwatch and the main feature in its appearance is the large flexible screen.
The watch uses a 4.01 inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 960 x 192 pixels. The pixel density per inch was 244 PPI.
I can’t say anything bad about color renditions and contrast, since the AMOLED matrix has realistic and saturated colors. But the brightness in sunny weather will be low since the screen received only 120 nits of brightness level.
A flexible screen is not the latest technology in the modern world, but as for a smartwatch, it is a unique phenomenon. Especially when it comes to the mass production of watches.
This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed that the Nubia brand is revolutionizing not only smartphones but also other smart wearables. Therefore, I assume that in the near future similar models will often appear on store shelves from other more famous brands, such as Samsung or others.
The case of the smartwatch is made of an alloy of metal and at first glance, it is quite durable. I do not have any complaints about the build quality, all components are assembled at a high level. But I will note that the metal is made of a glossy material, which at the slightest drop will lead to visible scratches.
On the right side of the smartwatch case, there is only one power button. It works with good responsiveness and I have no problems with it.
The back of the watch has a heart rate sensor and four-pin charging contacts.
The thickness of the Nubia smartwatch was 14.2 mm, but the device weighs about 98 grams. Of course, the watch looks bulky on the wrist, but do not forget about the large elongated flexible screen. In my practice, I can wear the watch for half a day without feeling much discomfort.
But this is with normal wearing, the watch is quite comfortable. But if you use the watch for sports purposes, then I had a slight discomfort on the wrist while exercising in the gym. Although I didn’t feel this discomfort when jogging or cycling.
It is also worth noting that the Nubia Watch smartwatch has received IP54 water protection. But this is full-fledged protection from water and you cannot swim with a watch in the pool.
A little about the strap itself, two types of straps are used here. One short if your wrist is thin or you are a child and large if your arm is thick. Yes, the strap is removable here, but buying a strap at a local store will be problematic. But you can order a strap through an online store from China.
Anyway, I loved the design of the Nubia Watch. Since it is unique in its case and believes me, you can surprise any friend or passer-by on the streets of your city. Now let’s see the main functions and features of smartwatches from Nubia.
Functions, features, and application
The large flexible screen on the Nubia Watch has some interesting watch faces. To select different options, you need to hold on the main screen for a few seconds and you will be taken to the watch faces menu.
Currently, smartwatches have received about ten watch faces. But I hope that their number will increase in the future.
The main screen of the watch displays a lot of information. For example, here I can find the designation of time, date, day of the week, steps, distance, heart rate and other indicators.
If you swipe down from the home screen, you will get to the quick settings menu. Here I found – battery level, eco mode, navigation on, Bluetooth, do not disturb mode, brightness level and other values.
If you swipe up, you will see the notification section.
When you swipe to the right or left, we get to the main menu with all the features. I want to note that the icons are quite large, which is very good. Since most smartwatches have small icons and sometimes it is quite difficult to operate with your finger.
The first function is calls and messages. Yes, the Nubia Watch has Bluetooth calling capability. On the watch case, you can find a hole for a microphone and speaker. But as the practice has shown, the speaker itself is very quiet and it is quite problematic to hear the interlocutor. And the microphone itself is not of the best quality, so your interlocutor will also not hear you clearly.
The next feature is sport modes. The watch received 10 different sports modes such as walking, running, climbing and others.
On this list, I also found features such as heart rate, health, settings, compass, timer, weather, clock, and music player.
I already mentioned that the watch has an internal memory of 8 GB. Thus, you can easily connect wireless earbuds and listen to music through this smartwatch.
Another feature of the Nubia Watch is the built-in GPS module that can track your movement during sports training. But after the end of the workout, I did not find a map with the route covered, either on the watch or in the application. And this is very strange.
The application with which the watch is synchronized was named Nubia Wear. It is available for both Android and iOS devices. After a simple connection, which took me about 5 minutes, I was able to analyze my activities.
The app home screen displays the watch’s battery level, steps, heart rate and sleep quality.
In the application settings menu, there are sections such as personal information, device management, notifications, sync, music, photos and device information.
Battery and run time
The manufacturer speaks of a 420 mAh battery on the Nubia Watch. This is a pretty serious indicator for a smartwatch, but it is not the maximum that I tested earlier.
As my practice has shown, the watch is discharged very quickly. That is, if you often use sports modes with GPS operation, listen to music, receive a lot of notifications, then the battery life will be up to half a day. This is very small, as for modern watches.
A full charge via the docking station will take about 1.5 hours. Therefore, battery life is a big disadvantage, as for the new Nubia Watch.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
The Nubia Watch is a unique and futuristic smartwatch that will definitely appeal to most passers-by.
On the positive side, I can note that it is an interesting design, a large and flexible AMOLED screen, good responsiveness and work of the user interface. I also liked the build quality and the materials used. Also, the heart rate and sleep functions work well and show realistic data.
There are also a lot of negative points – a small number of different functions. That is, the capabilities of the Nubia Watch are almost the same as those of other more budgetary fitness trackers.
The built-in speaker and microphone quality are not the best. Therefore, the interlocutor will be problematic to hear from you. And an important problem for many smartwatches is battery life. In the case of the Nubia Watch, the battery life is very poor, as for modern smartwatches.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy and order a smartwatch Nubia Watch at not the lowest price – $224.63 with a 22% discount.
Therefore, I cannot recommend the watch for purchase, as it has a large number of drawbacks and, of course, a high cost. But if you are fond of something unusual and want to surprise your friends, then the watch will be a good purchase.
