Today I have to review an updated smartphone model from Motorola. As you might have guessed from the title of the article, in this review I want to talk about my impression of the new generation of the smartphone, which is called the Motorola Edge 20 Pro.
But first of all, immediately note that I ordered the Motorola Edge 20 Pro model in the Chinese market. Therefore, for the Chinese market, the name of the device was slightly different, namely Motorola Edge S Pro. Moreover, all technical features, appearance and other elements are completely identical on both models.
As for the cost, at the time of this writing, the price tag for the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone was only $420. But the manufacturer says that this smartphone can be classified as a flagship device. If this is so, let’s look at its main technical features.
The smartphone from Motorola uses a modern and efficient Snapdragon 870 processor with a 5G network. The device also comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The smartphone also stands out with a large 6.7-inch OLED screen with 144 Hz refresh rate.
In addition, the smartphone from the well-known Motorola brand received a powerful camera with a 108-megapixel main sensor. At the same time, the selfie camera received a sensor with a resolution of 32 megapixels. The Edge 20 Pro also has a decent 4,500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.
Thus, it is not difficult to guess from the technical specifications that the device from Motorola is definitely worth your attention. But before praising the smartphone, I propose to find out its strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, let me begin my in-depth and detailed inspection of the device with the appearance and unpacking.

Unboxing and packaging
The updated model of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone comes in the same packaging as the model without the Pro prefix. This is an ordinary white box with standard dimensions and dimensions. On the front of it, you can see only the company logo and model name.
Meanwhile, on the back of the package, there is a sticker with the main technical characteristics and information about the company. You remember, I mentioned at the beginning of the article that I have a version of the smartphone for the Chinese market. Therefore, there are Chinese characters here.
Inside the box itself, I was immediately greeted by the device itself, which was packed in a plastic bag. In addition, the smartphone immediately comes with a silicone case put on and this saves a little space. Under the smartphone are instructions for use and a warranty card.
Also included is a 30W charging adapter and a Type-C format charging cable. In general, the package is pretty typical, as for most smartphones in this price range. Therefore, I propose to talk about the smartphone in more detail and consider its design features.
Design, build quality and materials
The manufacturer presented the updated line of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone in various colors and various materials used in its manufacture. For example, you can choose between blue and blue. Moreover, these two options will be made of protective glass. But there is also a blue color option available, only using vegan leather instead of glass.
On my test, the device was made in blue and with a glass case. I can immediately note that the back of the device shimmered well under the sun’s rays and looked really good. But fingerprints on the body of the smartphone easily remained, but they were also easily erased. It is also worth mentioning that the frame of the device was made of plastic. Yes, you might think it is chrome-plated metal, but in reality it is ordinary plastic.
As for the build quality, there were no particular complaints during my testing. All the components were well assembled and the smartphone really seemed to be made of a monolithic body and without any squeaks or sounds.
If you look at the back of the smartphone, here you can find the main camera module of triple sensors with a dual LED flash. At the same time, the camera island itself did not stick out much in relation to the main body of the device. In the central part of the smartphone is the Motorola logo.
On the right side of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone, a volume rocker with a power button with a built-in fingerprint scanner was installed. I liked that the manufacturer decided to keep the physical fingerprint scanner. Since it worked an order of magnitude faster and more accurately than the built-in optical scanner in the smartphone screen. On the opposite side, there is another additional button for quick access to various functions.
In addition, a hole for an additional microphone can be found on the top edge of the Edge 20 Pro device. But at the bottom, there is a slot for dual nano SIM cards, a main speaker, a microphone and a Type-C port for charging. On the downside, I can mention the absence of a 3.5 mm headphone jack and no additional slot for a memory card.
Now I want to tell you a little about the dimensions and weight of the device. Since the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone received a rather large 6.7-inch screen, the dimensions will be appropriate. For example, the dimensions of the smartphone were 163 x 76 x 8 mm, and the device weighs 185 grams. From a practical point of view, the smartphone was not very comfortable to operate. But on the other hand, the smartphone lay well in the hand thanks to the rounded glass on the back of the device.
Screen and image quality
I want to pay special attention to the frames around the screen in the new smartphone Motorola Edge 20 Pro. They are really symmetrical here, that is, the bottom and top bezels are completely the same size, just like the side bezels.
As I said earlier, the screen size was 6.7 inches with standard Full HD resolution or 1080 x 2400 pixels. At the same time, the pixel density per inch was 385 PPI. Given my class of devices, I was very happy to see an OLED screen on the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone.
The quality of the transmitted picture was really rich and bright. The color gamut was well implemented with good contrast levels. In addition, the device’s screen has received some interesting features such as HDR10 + and 144Hz refresh rate.
Indeed, I’ve only seen such a high refresh rate on a few gaming smartphones. I was a little surprised to see this feature in the new model of the device from Motorola. It is also worth mentioning that the smoothness of the screen was very high thanks to the 144 Hz refresh rate of the screen.
The maximum brightness of the screen was within 670 lux. This value will be sufficient when using the device outdoors in sunny bright weather. In addition, the harmful PWM was from 0 to 50% of the brightness level and was about 15%. These are really good numbers for an OLED screen. In general, I was very satisfied with the quality of the display and therefore proposed to talk a little about the hardware.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
Like the previous generation Motorola Edge 20, the updated Pro device uses exactly the same processor – Snapdragon 870. It may not be the latest flagship processor, but it has its advantages. For example, it does not experience severe overheating during heavy tasks, even when compared to the Snapdragon 888.
The Snapdragon 870 chipset itself was built using 7 nanometer technology and has eight cores in its performance. At the same time, the most powerful Kryo 585 core received a clock frequency of 3.2 GHz, three more Kryo 585 cores worked at 2.42 GHz and an additional four energy-saving Kryo 585 cores were at 1.8 GHz.
At the time of testing, the device scored about 699 thousand points in the well-known AnTuTu test. The result is very solid, both for its class and its value. In addition, I will leave the album with other benchmark tests from the new generation of the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone.
I also liked the presence of 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage in UFS 3.1 format. The manufacturer also offers a choice of 6 and 128 GB or another 8 and 256 GB version of the device. I had no particular problems with the speed of the built-in memory. Since the read speed was about 1700 MBps, and the write up to 900 MBps.
If we talk about wireless communication, then there is a wide list of various modern modules. For example, the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone was equipped with Wi-Fi 6 generation, Bluetooth 5.1 version, a large number of different GPS modules, and most importantly, there is an NFC module. Each of the above modules worked very well and I did not find any particular complaints during my testing.
In terms of the operating system, everything is standard here – this is Android 11 version with a proprietary MYUI 2.0 shell. The user interface of the Chinese version of the smartphone showed good and fast performance, without any delays or lags. But the presence of a large number of various Chinese applications can be attributed to small drawbacks. In general, the user interface has many useful features and functions. Therefore, I liked her work during my use.
Camera and sample photos
Another exciting feature of the new Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone is its camera performance. The main camera module on the device has a resolution of 108 megapixels with an aperture of f/1.9.
In addition, I liked the 16MP wide-angle lens with up to 119-degree capture angles. The last third 8-megapixel module was created for telephoto with 5x optical zoom and optical image stabilization.
If we talk about the quality of photos on the main camera, then in bright and sunny weather the photos were very detailed with the correct colors. There is also a night shooting mode and it works very well, you can see examples in the album below.
As for the ultra wide camera module, it captures a really wide angle of view. But the color rendition conveyed a slightly red tint in the photographs. But at night, I do not recommend shooting with this mode, since the quality of the photos was not the best.
The selfie camera on the Motorola Edge 20 Pro has a decent 32 megapixel resolution. Examples of photos taken with a smartphone can be seen in the album below. In general, the quality of the photos was good and you can easily post them to popular social networks like Instagram.
Battery and run time
During my testing, I was completely satisfied with the battery life of the new Motorola Edge 20 Pro device. The manufacturer installed a non-removable battery with a capacity of 4500 mAh on the smartphone.
As my practice has shown, a full charge of the device will be enough for one working day with active use. Yes, if you do not often play games and take thousands of photos or videos, then perhaps a smartphone from Motorola can work up to 2 days of use.
I also liked the presence of fast charging with a power of 30 watts. Therefore, a full charge from 1 to 100% took me about 1 hour and 22 minutes. But I can highlight the lack of a wireless charging method.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Considering the pros and cons of the new Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone, I can’t say that the device is a true flagship. But the current model cannot be called simple either.
On the positive side, the Motorola smartphone stands out for its high-quality assembly and premium materials. Also, the device received a very bright, saturated OLED screen with a 144 Hz refresh rate.
Other features include good performance thanks to the modern Snapdragon 870 5G processor and plenty of memory. In addition, the smartphone has good camera sensors that are capable of taking good pictures, both in the daytime and at night.
At the same time, the disadvantages of this generation of the Edge 20 Pro smartphone can be attributed to this lack of a memory card slot and a headphone jack. In addition, I did not like that the device received only one speaker, that is, there is no stereo sound here.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can buy the Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone at a good and low price for only $421.19.
Compared with the main competitors from the brands Xiaomi, Oppo, and OnePlus, I definitely liked the updated version of the smartphone from Motorola in terms of its technical specs and capabilities.
