Meizu is known for its mobile phones, but also for other components, such as wireless earbuds. We already wrote about the first generation of the POP series of earbuds, and now a new generation called Meizu POP 2 has been released.
In this article, we will look at the main differences between the previous generation and compare POP 2 with the latest competitors.
We will also analyze the advantages and disadvantages of sound quality and assembly.
The main features of Meizu POP 2 are Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection, IP5X standard water protection, fast charge via USB Type-C port, the battery life on one charge is about 6 hours.
Let’s start our review of the second generation of Meizu POP 2 wireless earbuds.

Meizu POP 2: Unboxing
The box in appearance is the same as the first generation of the Meizu POP. This is a small white box, on the front I see a picture of earbuds and a charging box with the name of the model.
On the back of the box are the main technical characteristics.
Inside the box, I found the following items – a white charging box, wireless earbuds, a Type-C charging cable, three pairs of ear cushions and brief instructions.
No wonder and completely similar packaging and equipment as in the first generation. So let’s see what changes in the design received a new generation of earbuds.
Meizu POP 2: Design and Appearance
The first thing that the manufacturer focuses on is the reduced weight of the earbuds and now makes up 5.4 grams, compared with 5.8 grams in the first generation.
As for me, I did not notice any other changes in appearance, I didn’t even feel those grams in weight.
The wireless earbuds Meizu POP 2 in our test are made of the same white glossy plastic. The assembly and quality of materials are very pleasant to the touch. Everything was done perfectly and I did not notice any problems.
Because of their shape, Meizu POP 2 earbuds fit perfectly in my ears, even when running or underactive loads, they did not fall out of my ear.
Like the first generation, POP 2 has a touch control on the front. As for its price, this is a typical solution and it is rare to find mechanical control.
A blue LED indicator is located around the touch button. It shimmers beautifully and looks awesome in the dark.
On the other side of the case, there is a two-pin charging connector with a magnetic connection and a right or left channel indicator.
Sound taps are located at an ideal angle and sit deep and tight in the ear. To cool the sound outlets there is a metal mesh to protect against dust and dirt.
Also, according to the manufacturer, Meizu POP 2 has IPX5 water protection, exactly the same as the first generation. This means that they can play sports in the rain or snow, but you cannot wet or bathe.
The charging case also did not receive any changes compared to the first generation. This is the same white glossy plastic with high-quality assembly and materials.
On the front side, there are four LED indicators to determine the level of the remaining charge in the case.
On the other side is a metal lid opening mechanism. It has a nice click and the lid will not open at an awkward moment.
Inside the box, the earbuds sit perfectly due to the magnetic connection, so there will be no loss.
Below the box is a Type-C charging port for fast charging. A good solution, but I want to note that in Meizu POP 2 does not have wireless charging. I want to remind you that in the first generation wireless charging was.
Therefore, I want to note that the design and appearance remained without any changes compared to the previous generation. Only the weight was reduced and the wireless charging was removed in the box.
Meizu POP 2: Connection and Control
The wireless earbuds Meizu POP 2 received an updated version of Bluetooth 5.0 connection. Of course, this is better than Bluetooth 4.2 in the first generation. The communication quality is better and without large interruptions.
Connections with a mobile device are similar to other models of wireless headphones.
First, you need to turn on POP 2 and go to the Bluetooth menu on your device and select Meizu POP 2. Further synchronization will be automatic. It is also possible to connect to several devices at the same time, for example, a smartphone or laptop.
The control of the touch keys in the Meizu POP 2 earbuds in our analisis remained unchanged from the previous model.
One touch on both channels – pause or play. Double tap on the left channel – the previous track, on the right channel – the next track.
If you hold the left channel – decrease the volume, on the right channel – increase the volume. Triple touch – call voice assistant. Well now let’s talk about the sound quality.
Meizu POP 2: Sound
Compared to the previous generation, the sound quality is not much improved, but the quality of communication has become much better and stronger.
Of course, there is nothing to talk about for audiophiles, since the sound corresponds to its price.
If you choose earbuds for every day listening to music or for playing active sports, then this will be a good choice.
But nevertheless, let’s tell the opinion on a sound. Meizu POP 2 in our test got a good and dynamic sound with bright elements for electronic music.
The bass in the earbuds is weak and not as good as the competitors, but they are. Low and high frequencies are well pronounced, the averages are not so prominent.
Also thanks to the graphene diaphragm, the sound is very clear, it is pleasant to listen even for a long time.
In general, if you need comfortable earbuds with a long-wearing, then they definitely come to your taste.
Also improved is the quality of the microphone on the Meizu POP 2 compared to the previous model. My interlocutor heard me well and clearly, so I am too.
Meizu POP 2: Battery
Each earbud channel received 55 mAh battery capacity and provides about 6 hours of battery life at 75% volume level.
In the charging case, 350 mAh and you can recharge the headphones for 1.5 hours and therefore the battery life will be about 20 hours.
Not the biggest indicator, but as for its capacity, earbuds provide a good result.
Also through the Type-C port will provide fast charging for 2 hours of the entire case and earbuds.
Meizu POP 2: Conclusions and Reviews
Meizu POP 2 wireless earbuds in our review have not received much change compared to the first generation. The design and appearance did not remain a big change.
The build quality and materials at a high level, touch control is very clear and intuitive. Also, the LED indicator gives the earbuds a modern look.
The sound quality has certainly become better compared to the first generation due to the graphene diaphragm and the Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection.
The battery life has been improved and has become a bit more than with the previous generation, also due to Bluetooth 5.0. As you may already know from my reviews, the latest version of the Bluetooth connection provides not only a high-quality signal but also lower power consumption.
Meizu POP 2: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can order and buy Meizu POP 2 wireless earbuds at a good price for only $54.66 at a 29% discount.
If you compare the price with the first generation Meizu POP, now you can buy them even more expensive for $56.72 with a 26% discount.
As for its price, the new generation Meizu POP 2 has received a number of improvements in the quality of autonomy and sound due to the Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection.
