Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W Review: Suitable Fitness Tracker or Smartband in 2018

Lenovo is known primarily in Europe for its notebooks and computers. However, Lenovo also builds smartphones and smartphone accessories. However, this is primarily available in Asia (China). This includes a new fitness tracker called Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W which should be in this review.

Fitness trackers or fitness bracelets are probably among the most popular goods, which is probably also due to the price. For example, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W fitness bracelet costs just $20.

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W: Design and Appearance

At first glance, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W in our analisis looks quite unspectacular. It is the usual form factor, so a silicone bracelet with a small plastic capsule.

Here is occupies 0.96 inches OLED display is embedded on top of the capsule. However, this display can only show two colors, white and black. However, this is usually sufficient.

There is a small capacitive button underneath the display of the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W, which allows you to go through the menu. Of course, a control via the smartphone app is possible.

On the underside of the tracker are various sensors. In addition to the steps, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W can also measure your heart rate.

Also on the side is a micro USB port, which of course serves to charge the battery.

The battery lasts about 5-8 days, depending on how much you use the bracelet. This port is protected from water by a small rubber flap.

By the way, Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W in our test has an IP68 water protection, so this only has a protection against water and dust. So you should not immerse the bracelet!

Unlike many other fitness bracelets, the Lenovo silicone strap cannot be replaced!

The tracker seems to be stuck on the bracelet.

However, the Armand gets bonus points again for his lock. This is not the typical fitness wristband snap closure, but a firmer normal watch closure.

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W: Device and App

To pair the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W in the review with the smartphone, the bracelet turns on first. This is done by holding down the capacitive button on the display. If your bracelet does not turn on, it connects to the power.

Then download the Lenovo Healthy App from the Google Play Store or the IOS App Store and launch the app.

Unfortunately, you must register in the app before using the manufacturer.

The connection of the bracelet is then very simple. Go into the settings of the app and select “connect”. The bracelet should now be found immediately and you just have to confirm the connection by tapping the bracelet.

The Lenovo Healthy app itself is quite classically structured and roughly divided into four areas: steps, sleep, heart rate, and statistics.

Fortunately, the app is visually appealing. Even the German, Spanish and many other languages are on board, but with minor errors.

Nevertheless, I like the app quite well with their many charts and information!

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W: Features

Let’s go through the features of the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W in this analisis.

Let’s start with the classic, the pedometer. Yes, of course, the Cardio Plus HX03W also has a pedometer, which counts permanently in the background your steps taken. You can see in the smartphone app as well as on the bracelet itself how many steps you have taken.

The app also shows the calories burned and the distance covered. These are calculated based on your pre-determined size, gender, and weight.

If you wear the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W overnight, it will measure your sleeping monitoring. Here, a distinction is made in deep sleep, light sleep and wake up phases. By the way, the tape automatically detects when you go to bed and fall asleep. I assume this is detected by the position sensor in the tape.

As already mentioned, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W also has a heart rate monitor, which of course can measure your heart rate on request. In addition, your pulse is automatically measured at 15-minute intervals and stored in the app. By the way, this automatic measurement can also be switched off should you want to save your battery.

These were the three major features, counting steps, heart rate monitoring and sleep monitoring. However, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W, of course, has other features.

Let’s start with something very simple, the bracelet can show you the time. The date is also displayed on request. It certainly sounds like a standard feature. That’s it, but it’s amazing how often you use a fitness bracelet as a watch every day.

The bracelet will support an arm lift gesture if you raise your arm as if you were looking at a clock and the display turns on automatically. This automatic switch-on can also be switched off or deactivated automatically at night. Incidentally, this gesture is recognized as pleasingly reliable.

Another very important feature from my point of view is notifications. For example, if you receive a WhatsApp message or a call, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W will alert you with a vibration.

Unfortunately, only selected apps are supported here, but the important ones like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Skype, SMS, QQ etc. are included.

If you regularly relocate your phone, a search function for this is also integrated into the bracelet, which makes the phone ring.

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W: How accurate are the readings?

An important question, of course, is how accurate these readings are. This is not easy to rate because I do not have any medically accurate equipment.

If you also expect a $20 fitness bracelet delivers exact values, should reconsider this requirement again.

However, we still want to try to estimate the values. For comparison, I choose an Apple Watch 2nd Gen. Although this is not 100% accurate, still I consider this a reliable source of comparison values.

Let’s start with the pulse, here I was surprised because the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W in our review delivered very similar values to the Apple Watch! The resting heart rate was 77 at both, after a little movement, the pulse in the Apple Watch on 114 and on the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W has 112. Therefore, I would rate the pulse measurements in normal situations as accurate!

What about the steps?

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W Review: Suitable Fitness Tracker or Smartband in 2018

Here is the Lenovo fitness bracelet something “optimistic”. On a “test track” that I ran, the Apple Watch counted 1998 steps, the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W has 2138 steps.

No gigantic difference, so I would classify the pedometer as halfway accurate!

Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W: Conclusions and Reviews

If you are looking for a simple and, above all, inexpensive fitness bracelet that masters the basic feature, then the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W is the place for you!

Of course, as usual, your expectations of the price will match! For $20 you do not get a medically accurate fitness bracelet, no matter what the manufacturers tell you.

Although the values of the Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W seem to be quite close to reality, you should be a professional athlete who wants the most accurate information, then take more money into your hands.

However, the Lenovo HW01 in our reviews is ideal for everyday use, in which you just want to check how much you have moved and whether in the evening still, a round running is necessary.

The Lenovo Cardio Plus HX03W also replaces a classic wristwatch and offers additional nice bonus features thanks to additional functions such as notifications for incoming messages (SMS, WhatsApp, etc.).
