Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

The Hong Kong company Infinix was managed back in 2013, but many of you have not even heard of this brand and do not even know what it produces. But in its assortment there are already more than 10 different smartphones and today we will talk about a new model called Infinix Note 8.

Considering the fact that the Note 8 model was introduced in October 2020, it is still very popular. And all thanks to good technical features and a very attractive price.

Let me first tell you about the price of the Infinix Note 8 smartphone, and then we will analyze the technical features. Currently, the price tag for the device is about $ 160 and therefore I can attribute this smartphone to the mid-budget class of devices.

If you look at the technical specs, they are really impressive. For example, the screen size is huge at 6.95 inches. Also, the Note 8 model works with the Mediatek Helio G80 processor, has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory.

In addition, six camera modules were installed on board the smartphone, four on the back and two on the front. I also liked the 5200mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

Thus, the smartphone is worth your attention. But before moving on to looks and performance, I want to talk about unboxing and find out what the manufacturer has put inside the box.

Unboxing and packaging

The smartphone comes in a rather bright green packaging and this color is very unusual for the category of smartphones. That is, I can rarely find packaging that would be made in green.

Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

On the front of the box is a sketch of a smartphone with the name of the model and brand. Also here you can find the main features – these are screen size and memory modification.

Inside the box, I was happily greeted by the smartphone itself with a protective film, both on the front and on the back of the device. Then I discovered – a protective transparent silicone case, an additional screen film, documentation and a needle for a SIM tray. But at the bottom of the box, there was an 18W power adapter, a Type-C charging cable and wired headphones.

As you can see for yourself, the package bundle looks very rich, given its low cost. But will the new smartphone surprise me with its build quality? Let’s find this out right now.

Design, build quality and materials used

It is not difficult to guess that the new Infinix Note 8 smartphone has received quite bulky dimensions due to its large screen size. For example, the dimensions of the device were 175.3 x 78.8 x 9 mm, and the device weighs about 206 grams.

Naturally, using the Note 8 model will not be the most comfortable experience. Especially if you use only one hand. But thanks to the large screen size, you can enjoy a pleasant viewing of various videos, movies and even games. Since 6.95-inches is almost a tablet screen size and even 7-inch screens were very popular in the past.

The back of the device is made entirely of glossy plastic. The manufacturer offers two colors to choose from – gray and blue with an iridescent yellow tint. Both options look very interesting, but from a practical point of view, this is not the best way to use glossy plastic.

Let’s say, after a short test, I had a lot of fingerprints on the back of the smartphone lid. Therefore, I recommend using a protective case, even the one that comes with the package. This will protect your smartphone from scratches and other annoyances.

In addition, I have no strong complaints about the build quality. Although the case is made of plastic, the smartphone is assembled at a decent level. For example, when twisting the case, I did not notice any squeaks, and the mechanical buttons worked with good responsiveness.

As you may have noticed, on the back of the body is the main island of quad camera modules and an LED flash. The camera itself sticks out a little from the body, but if you use a protective case, then there will be practically no bulging.

But the fingerprint scanner was located on the right side of the case next to the volume rocker. At the same time, the operation of the fingerprint scanner was very fast and most importantly accurate. Also, the manufacturer has another protection against strangers – this is face recognition by the front camera. It also works pretty well, unless you have poor lighting.

On the left side of the device, there is a slot for dual nano SIM cards and a memory card. This is a full-fledged slot and you can use dual SIM cards and a memory card at the same time.

Meanwhile, at the bottom, there is a main speaker, a Type-C charging port, a 3.5mm audio jack for headphones and a microphone hole. There are no elements on the top.

Another interesting feature of this Infinix Note 8 model is the presence of an additional speaker for stereo sound. Indeed, the sound quality is at a pretty good level and the stereo effect is felt well, but there is not as much low frequencies here as I would like.

Screen and picture quality

The Infinix Note 8 smartphone uses a large screen size, which was 6.95 inches. But the panel resolution is only HD + or 720 x 1640 pixels. Therefore, the pixel density per inch will not be the highest, for example in the case of the Note 8, the pixel density was only 258 PPI.

I cannot say that individual pixels are visible while using this smartphone. In general, the screen looks very bright and has a rich color gamut of various colors and shades.

I also liked the viewing angles, they are quite wide and using the screen in various operating conditions will not be a big problem for your eyes.

In terms of bezels around the screen, there is a decent chin at the bottom, while the rest of the bezels are pretty minimal. In addition, it is easy to see the oval cutout for the front camera with two modules. Therefore, the screen-to-body ratio was about 83%.

In the screen settings, you can set up many interesting features. For example, set a dark or light theme, choose a reading mode, a night mode and set a color scheme to suit your taste.

Performance, benchmarks, games and OS

Like most Chinese smartphones, the new Infinix Note 8 device received a processor from Mediatek called the Helio G80. It is built on 12 nanometer technology and has eight cores in its execution. Of these, two Cortex-A75 cores with a clock frequency of 2.0 GHz, and the remaining six are energy-saving Cortex-A55 with a frequency of 1.8 GHz.

This is not the worst processor I’ve seen in action and is often used on popular models from Xiaomi, Poco, Oppo and other brands. The Helio G80 chipset was introduced back in early 2020, but it still has good demand and popularity. And all thanks to good performance and speed of work.

For example, below you can see various benchmarks such as AnTuTu, Geekbench 5 and others. From myself, I can note that Infinix Note 8 got a good result in the AnTuTu test, which was about 200 thousand points.

In terms of gaming capabilities, the Infinix Note 8 smartphone uses the Mali-G52 MC2 graphics accelerator. It shows good results in games, for example in PUBG MObile the game can run at high graphics settings and the FPS will be in the range from 24 to 30. If you set low graphics settings, the FPS value will grow to 40.

In my other favorite game, Call Of Duty, with medium graphics settings, the FPS was within 30 frames per second. At the same time, the playability was pretty good. But after a long test in games, the device gained a little temperature, but not significantly.

In terms of the amount of memory on the Infinix Note 8 smartphone, everything is also not bad. Since it uses 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. If you have little internal memory, you can easily use a separate slot for a microSD memory card up to 512 GB.

As for the wireless capabilities, everything is like in the middle budget class of smartphones. For example, the Note 8 has dual-band Wi-Fi with a/b/g/n/ac and has a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection. But the main feature is not here, and I’m talking about the presence of an NFC module. For many users, the lack of an NFC module will be a strong disadvantage.

In terms of the operating system, the one on board the Infinix Note 8 runs Android 10 and is controlled by the XOS 7.1 user interface. I really liked the work of the user interface, it is pretty well smoothed and works fast.

Apart from that, I liked the interface design, which has nice icons and many other features. For example, one of these features I can mention is the different wallpapers on the home screen when you unlock the device.

Camera and sample photos

At the beginning of the review, I already mentioned that the Infinix Note 8 smartphone model received as many as six camera models. Two are on the front and four on the back of the device.

Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

Let’s first talk about the main camera models. The main sensor has received a resolution of 64 megapixels and shows good results in terms of good illumination. In low light, the quality of the photos is not as saturated and has a little noise.

The second, third and fourth main camera modules received a resolution of 2 megapixels. Each of the sensors performs its own task – macro, bokeh and quaternary modes. If we talk about each separately, then macro and bokeh perform their tasks well and without any questions. But as for how the quaternary mode works, I still did not understand its main task and functionality.

Now let’s take a look at the dual-sensor front camera. The main camera module received a 16-megapixel resolution. But the second module is designed for portrait shots and has a resolution of 2 megapixels.

Naturally, below you can see an album of various photos taken on the Infinix Note 8. In general, given its low cost, I liked how the smartphone shoots with the main camera and the front camera.

Battery and run time

Most modern smartphones have good battery capacity and the Infinix Note 8 is no exception. A battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh is installed inside the case.

Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

Considering its large screen size, you would think that the smartphone will last less than one day. But this is not so, because the screen, although large, has a resolution of 720p. Therefore, during my tests, the smartphone was able to work for about two days with active use. Yes, you may be able to achieve 2.5 days of use, but this is with an average load.

It took me about 2 hours and 15 minutes to fully charge the device thanks to the 18W power adapter.

Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons

If you have been looking for an inexpensive smartphone with interesting technical features for a long time, then the Infinix Note 8 is a good choice.

Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

On the positive side, I can attribute it to the large screen size, which will allow you to comfortably watch various videos or movies. I also liked that the smartphone uses a good processor, which showed decent performance, both for its cost.

At the same time, I have no complaints about the build quality, but the materials used are not the best. But don’t forget about a good package with a lot of additional accessories.

Infinix Note 8 Review: Almost Gaming Smartphone with Big Screen

The last thing I liked was the decent main and front cameras. The quality of the photos was good and with great detail. Besides, the battery life is quite good considering the 5200 mAh battery capacity.

But it was not without its drawbacks. In the case of the Infinix Note 8, I can highlight such problems as only HD resolution, a slight heating of the case during long games and the lack of an NFC module.

Price and where to buy cheaper?

Directly, I can easily recommend a new smartphone from Infinix for purchase. It has many interesting features that you won’t even find in the main competitors.

At the same time, the price tag for the Infinix Note 8 is very intriguing – only $ 163.62.
