Xiaomi has a large list of sub-branded firms at its disposal and today I want to share my impression of one of them called Xiaobai. This article will focus on a smart wireless IP camera, which is called Imilab EC2.
As usual, I will talk about my impressions in a detailed review, namely about the quality of the appearance, functions and much more.
The global and Chinese versions of the device are now available, but the price is different. For example, you can buy the Imilab EC2 global version for $80, and the Chinese version for only $67.
The main function of the camera I can attribute is IP66 water protection for the global version and for the Chinese IP65, as well as 1080p video recording resolution, various shooting modes, and 5100 mAh battery capacity.
Well, I think we need to start our test by unpacking and find out what items will be delivered in the box.

Imilab EC2: Unboxing
As you can see from the box, I have a Chinese version of the camera.
The box is made of durable white cardboard, where on the front part is a drawing of the camera and the name of the model.
Inside the box, I found a large number of details, such as the camera itself, a wall mount, two pieces of double-sided tape, a Micro USB cable, gateway hub with a power adapter and cable, and various documentation.
Since I have a Chinese version, dealing with the connection was not so difficult, even with the Chinese manual. But I’ll talk about the connection a little later. In general, I am pleased with the package bundle, all the elements lay separately and they were well packed.
Imilab EC2: Design
First I want to talk about the appearance of the Imilab EC2 camera itself, and after that – the gateway hub.
The IP camera housing is made of high-quality white plastic, which lies well in the hand. I have no complaints about the build quality; the device has a sturdy case and protection against IP65 water.
In fact, the Imilab EC2 camera is designed for outdoor use, as it is not afraid of rain, snow, heat or other harmful conditions.
The dimensions of the camera are quite compact and amount to 14 x 7.3 x 4.7 cm, and the weight of the device is only 270 grams.
Also, the new camera received a very simple, but at the same time minimalistic design. As I said, the camera has a separate mount for installation on the back of the case.
There are two ways to install a camera. The first is fastening to the wall with the help of two screws, and the second is on two-sided tape. Of course, the first method will be more reliable than the second.
On the front of the camera, there is a lens, eight infrared LEDs to activate night mode, a blue LED and microphone holes.
The back of the device has a standard ¼ inch mounting hole and the main speaker.
Below is a button to turn on and pair the camera with the station, and under the protective silicone casing – the standard micro USB port for charging.
Do you remember that I already said that the camera has a built-in battery with a capacity of 5100 mAh? The autonomy of the camera is very high for about 3 months without recharging.
Now I’ll talk a little about the gateway hub that receives the signal from the camera and the Wifi wireless network. The gateway hub also has a built-in slot for a memory card, which will store all captured information from the camera.
The gateway is much smaller in size than the camera and is 7.5 x 7.5 x 2.5 cm and weighs about 65 grams.
On the front side, there is a similar blue LED indicator as on the camera itself.
The reverse side of the gateway hub has an Ethernet port, micro USB port for charging, a slot for a memory card and a power button.
It is not difficult to guess that the gateway hub has WiFi connections with 802.11 b/g/n networks, so the signal radius is up to 10 meters. Of course, you can use an Ethernet cable for a more stable signal or if the distance from the router is more than 10 meters.
The appearance of the Imilab EC2 camera has a stylish design and, most importantly, robust and reliable housing that can withstand the harsh weather conditions in your backyard.
Imilab EC2: Connection
The main advantage of the Imilab EC2 camera is the presence of the well-known Xiaomi application called Mi Home. If you have previously encountered devices from Xiaomi, then you will not have any connection problems.
Before connecting an IP camera, you need to select the Chinese region in the settings section of the Mi Home application, since I have cameras for the Chinese market. For the global version, this is not necessary.
Next, click on the plus sign in the upper right corner in the main menu of the application. Then you can choose a manual connection or automatic.
Naturally, you should already have the gateway hub plugged in, as the first thing is to connect the gateway itself, and then the camera will go.
The name IMIlab Wireless Camera appears in the list of found devices, click on it. Next, select your Wifi network and enter the password. The process will take no more than 1 minute.
After connecting the gateway hub, then you need to connect the camera itself. Hold the power button on the camera for about 5 seconds and then the blue indicator will flash.
Next, select the camera in the application menu and the connection will take no more than 1-2 minutes. This is the end of the process and I would like to talk about the main features of the application itself and its functions.
Imilab EC2: Application Features
The main application menu offers clips that have been captured by movement. Naturally, you can watch information in real-time.
Also, the presence of a microphone and speaker on the Imilab EC2 camera is able to use the two-way conversation function.
In the camera app, you can access recording clips in the cloud for up to 7 days. But also you can record all the information directly to a memory card.
Without any problems, you can take a photo or record video manually.
In the menu of the application Imilab EC2, you can set the inclusion of infrared LEDs, for example, automatic or alway close or alway open.
In the motion detection section, you can set the settings to your taste, for example, the time of monitoring, receiving a notification and receiving a notification when a human is detected.
Imilab EC2: Video Quality
The manufacturer boasts very much that the camera can be installed at a distance of up to 100 meters from the station, but is it capable of working at such distances?
During testing, up to 30 meters the signal caught perfectly, up to 50 meters, there were already jerks, but the information entered the application. About 75 meters from the station – the connection is almost impossible.
Considering even a distance of 50 meters, I can confidently say that the connection is very decent if you compare other competitors.
Regarding recording videos and photos? In the daytime, the photos are clear and you can easily read the license plate numbers.
At night, detailing is worse, but disassembling the face of a neighbor will turn out without any problems.
Imilab EC2: Conclusions and Reviews
Currently, the Imilab EC2 security and wireless IP camera have a positive impression after several weeks of use.
The camera received a modern and simple design with compact dimensions. Most importantly, it has protection against water and snow, so it can be installed not only inside, but also outside.
Thanks to the built-in 5100 mAh battery, Imilab EC2 is able to work for about 3 months without recharging, and indeed it is a good indicator.
The communication distance between the camera and the station even up to 50 meters is a good result, despite its small size.
Of the minuses, I would like to note that the quality of the speaker and microphone is not the best, so it will be difficult to use the two-way conversation functions.
Imilab EC2: Price and Where to buy cheaper?
Currently, you can purchase an Imilab EC2 camera for $67.36 with a 17% discount with the Chinese version and for $79.99 with an 18% discount with the global version.
The prices do not exceed significantly, but it’s up to you, the differences between the global and Chinese versions are minimal. For example, in the global version, there is the protection of the IP66 standard, and in Chinese – IP65, I have not yet found other differences in functionality and appearance.
