Not every customer can afford flagship smartphones Huawei P30 and P30 Pro, so the company introduced a simplified version called Huawei P30 Lite in our review.
The design and appearance of the device almost did not changes, even the quality of the assembly and materials remained. But the technical specs have received a change in the P30 Lite, they are significantly simplified compared to the flagship models.
The main question is the price, now you can buy a Huawei P30 Lite for a little more than $300. As you may know, the price of the P30 Pro is 3 times higher than the Lite version.
Huawei P30 Lite got the well-known Kirin 710 processor, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of built-in memory. Also, the triple main camera for various shooting and 32-megapixel front camera for selfie.
Well, at first glance – this is a perfect mid-range smartphone, but is it? Let’s get down to a detailed review.

Huawei P30 Lite: Unboxing
We got a small white box on the test in a typical Huawei style. It has a minimalistic look, where the name of the model of the smartphone and the logo above are written on the front.
On the side of the box, there is a label with technical data and numbers.
Inside, everything is well built. The first we see – the smartphone itself with cellophane packaging and stickers on the rear panel.
There is also a protective silicone case in a transparent color, documentation in various languages, a SIM needle.
In addition, a Type-C charging cable, 18W power adapter, and headphones.
The package from Huawei is always good because for the first time you can use a smartphone with a protective case to protect it from scratches and there are even headphones to listen to music or watch movies.
Huawei P30 Lite: Design and Appearance
The appearance of the Huawei P30 Lite in our test is very similar to the flagship model P30 Pro. Build quality and choice of materials is also premium.
The back cover is made of glass, and the side faces are made of metal, but the weight of the P30 Lite is small and amounts to 159 grams.
In his hand, the smartphone is comfortable and does not feel heavy.
The size of the Lite version is slightly larger than that of the Huawei P30 since the screen sizes are 0.05 inches larger and are 152.9 x 72.7 x 7.4 mm.
On the front of the smartphone is a large 6.15-inch screen, in the upper part there is a waterdrop notch for the front camera.
Also just above the camera is a speaker and LED notifications. Frames around the screen are not large, but at the bottom of the frame could be smaller.
On the left side, we have nothing, and the hybrid slot for two nano-SIM-cards or microSD + nano-SIM is located on the upper side of the case.
On the right side, there are all well-familiar volume and power keys.
At the bottom, the Huawei P30 Lite has a USB Type-C port, also a speaker grille, holes for the main microphone and a 3.5mm audio output for headphones in the test.
The back cover is glass, in my case a gradient with iridescent colors from blue to purple. In the upper left corner, there are triple sensors of the main camera and an LED flash.
In the center – around fingerprint scanner. The Huawei logo is located below the left edge.
The overall impression in the hand is very favorable. Huawei P30 Lite is elegant in our analisis, and thanks to the rounded corners and the finish, it is pleasant to the touch.
The advantages are definitely the presence of a 3.5 mm audio jack and a Type-C port for fast charging. The disadvantages include the lack of protection against water.
Huawei P30 Lite: Screen
The P30 Lite smartphone has a large 6.15-inch IPS LCD screen with a non-standard aspect ratio – 19.25: 9. The resolution is Full HD +, that is, 1080 x 2312 pixels (415 ppi). The color display is not AMOLED, but IPS are also not bad.
The same applies to the viewing angles, here I have no comments. But I would like the screen to be brighter in the open.
Applications that are not yet adapted to the 19.25: 9 format can be easily stretched so that you do not have unpleasant black lines above and below.
Thus, the P30 Lite screen will be convenient for surfing and multimedia.
As in other models of Huawei, you can reduce the screen size by swiping your finger on the navigation bar.
What protection against scratches I will not say for sure, but from the box, the smartphone has a protective film, which I would prefer to replace with tempered glass.
Also in the settings menu of the screen, you can find useful options such as contrast and colors, reading mode and remove the cutout under the front camera. In addition, it is possible to reduce the screen resolution to HD + to increase the autonomy of the work.
The screen as for its segment has an interesting potential with large settings for any user, so I have no big remarks on the screen of the Huawei P30 Lite.
Huawei P30 Lite: Hardware and Performance
Inside the Huawei P30 Lite, an eight-core HiSilicon Kirin 710 processor (12-nm) is installed. The chipset is already well known for its performance and fast work. It is equipped with four 1.7 GHz Cortex A53 cores for simple tasks and four 2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 cores for heavy games and applications.
The video chip Mali-G51 MP4 performs its graphics tasks and games well. There are models with 4/128 GB of memory and 6/128 GB, in both cases with a hybrid microSD slot. This means that you have to choose between working with two SIM cards and expanding the memory.
In my test, I have a version with 6 GB of RAM. Therefore, questions with multitasking I did not have.
The synthetic tests show an average result, but in everyday life, you will not notice a difference with such processors as the Snapdragon 660 or even 710. Below I want to share the results of the tests AnTuTu, Geekbench 4, 3DMark and others.
For gamers, I took a couple of heavy games that I used to test on various devices – PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9.
Both games run smoothly, without jerks and overheating, but of course at medium graphics settings.
Huawei P30 Lite: Software
Huawei P30 Lite has in our analisis the latest version of the Android 9.0 operating system with the user interface EMUI 9.0.1 version.
After the first start, I received an update – this means that the device receives updates over the air regularly.
The home screen can now also display the menu of the application I have selected. Below is a custom navigation bar with three or four buttons.
Multitasking allows you to view recently used applications, as well as split the screen into two windows for two applications at the same time.
The layout of the main screen is adapted to the themes. Navigating the interface, as a rule, is smooth, although the animations may seem somehow cropped.
The default web browser is Google Chrome and Swype keyboard for Huawei. The P30 Lite web browser usually opens quickly, and the keyboard is flexible and spacious for typing.
Google applications are already installed on the device, so there will be no problems with Google synchronization. You can also easily install any applications and games through the Google Play Store.
In addition, in the user interface you can find useful applications, such as HiCare, Party Mode, Ride Mode Phone Manager, and others. But if you don’t need them, you can easily remove them.
The operating system with the EMUI 9.0.1 interface is very favorable and has a large number of various user settings. Also during testing, I did not notice any delays, and a constant update will allow the device to be in the latest trends.
Huawei P30 Lite: Camera
The rear panel of the Huawei P30 Lite has a triple camera in a 24 + 8 + 2-megapixel configuration. The camera supports gyro-EIS stabilization and phase autofocus. P30 Lite records 1080p video and has an LED flash.
On the front is a 32-megapixel camera with f/2.0 and 1080p video recording. As a rule, the camera is fine if you do not need to shoot often in poorly lit conditions.
The camera interface is overloaded with options. In the automatic shooting mode, it also has “Professional Camera” and “Video Camera” modes, where you can manually reproduce the exposure length, ISO sensitivity, white balance, and focus modes.
As usual, I almost always used an automatic mode in which you can lock the focus with your finger and compensate for the exposure with the slider.
Other camera functions are used for special portrait mode shooting and wide aperture mode. Both of them, naturally, will do everything possible to blur the background and provide the bokeh effect.
You can also use the ultra-wide photo shooting. This will allow you to get photos with a large viewing angle.
In well-lit conditions, the quality of shooting is pretty good. Images in poor light conditions are specific, they miss details and are replete with grit.
Here are some examples of use for various settings:

Huawei P30 Lite: Sound
Huawei P30 Lite has one speaker on the bottom, but the sound has a decent quality. Also in the interface, it is possible to use FM radio through the connected headphones as an antenna.
A good screen, a loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm audio output will provide pleasant multimedia enjoyment.
Through the 3.5 mm jack you can adjust the equalizer settings and other functions, they are only available via cable.
Settings will not be available via wireless headphones.
Huawei P30 Lite: Communication
The quality of phone calls is quite decent and you can use 4G on two SIM cards. GPS also works well with a minimum error of up to 5 meters and the number of active satellites reaches 13.
The speed of Wi-Fi is 45 MB/s download and 90 MB/s return.
Internal memory has a good data transfer rate. The AndroBench application shows the result – 277 MB/s reading and 153 MB/s recording.
The main problem is the lack of wireless NFC payment, which today is very popular among many users.
The fingerprint scanner on the back panel works well, reads the finger correctly and without any problems.
Huawei P30 Lite: Battery
Huawei P30 Lite is equipped with a built-in 3340 mAh battery with support for fast charging at 18 watts. The charging time from 0 to 100% will take a little more than one and a half hours.
The autonomy of a smartphone with an average intensity of use will be up to 6 hours, the result is mediocre. You will charge Huawei P30 Lite every night.
With the use of features such as reducing the screen resolution to HD + or optimizing processes, you can increase the battery life of the P30 Lite for a few more hours.
Huawei P30 Lite: Conclusions and Reviews
Huawei P30 Lite was announced as a lightweight flagship smartphone models P30 and P30 Pro. It has a pleasant and elegant design, a spacious and modern display, decent performance and good quality photos from the main and front camera.
Compared to the flagships, the P30 Lite lacks water protection and contactless payment of NFC, but considering the price of almost $300, this is an interesting device that will delight the user with its stable performance.
The user interface is full of many useful functions and applications that are convenient to use, the operating system is smooth and stable. 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory will be sufficient for most users.
Huawei P30 Lite: Price and where to buy cheaper?
Now you can buy an almost flagship Huawei P30 Lite smartphone at a low price for only $307.99 with coupon code: HWGB0703 and 24% discount.
The elegant and modern design will allow you to feel the P30 Lite flagship device, but the performance will be as in the mid-range of mobile devices. Of course, the Huawei smartphone is worth your attention.
