Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

The time has come to gut this fantastic smartphone, the Huawei Nova 3i in the review. How do the only Huawei mobile with 4 cameras and new chipset Kirin 710 behave?

Huawei has a good track record around the highest ranges of smartphones, has been chaining reference phones almost from the Huawei P8.

And of course, taking the market to a new model is a step in its rise to perfection, a path that the brand has been paying with successes.

Is the Huawei Nova 3i a worthy heir to the “Nova” saga? Short answer: yes. Long answer: touch it to discover it.

It is beautiful in your hand, compact despite having more than 6 inches of screen, your battery gives everything you want and more.

So, it is powerful, comes loaded with Artificial Intelligence that is barely noticeable and yes, includes excellent multimedia capture capabilities.

Undoubtedly, he is at the top even though I have my doubts when it comes to giving him the title of almighty king on mid-range phones 2018.

Let’s go in parts, as usual in a thorough review. Join me for this walk around one of the best phones you can get your hands on: if you get hold of it you will not regret it.

Huawei Nova 3i: Specifications

It starts with the beginning, which is none other than its specification sheet. The hardware honors the highest range to which it points, so you can already imagine it: it has everything and everything the best.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It would have been good wireless charging or FM radio, are two details that I miss. As usual, no phone is perfect.

High-end specifications and a price that, at least in its output, approximates what we understand by “premium”. Here you have all the details of the Huawei Nova 3i.

Huawei Nova 3i: Design and Appearance

Horror, the Huawei Nova 3i in the analisis arrive with notch! This dramatization could be shared by me since I do not like the uppercut of the screen to embed the sensors.

We must admit that it is a detail that is not seen after 30 seconds of using the phones that include it.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Even so, adding to the trend detracts from a certain originality in a design that already lacks excessive bravado.

Straight lines with profusely rounded corners and very smooth edges. The crystals on both sides have a 2.5D effect on the edges and, at least in my unit.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

There is a certain “burr” when you slide your finger across the glass until you reach the aluminum.

Said aluminum constitutes the entire frame of the Huawei Nova 3i in the test, that is only interrupted by antennas, buttons and holes for sensors, speaker, 3.5mm audio jack and USB type-C port.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It is seen solid in the hand and with a construction according to the category of the smartphone.

I do not get too big no matter how small I am and without ever losing the comfort of use.

In this, the reduction of the frontal frames and the use of this face collaborate with a ratio 19.5 by 9 for a screen that ratio to 6.3 inches displays.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

One of the most controversial decisions in the field of design is the commitment to the double-sided glass.

We put aside the aluminum back to offer different color combinations that make a beautiful appearance in sight (the blue of my Nova 3i is a wonder, only surpassed by the color Twilight).

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Up front, we have the notch up and the output of the speakerphone in a circular (it is disguised by the black color of the notch itself, but not very well within the overall design of the mobile).

The lower frame is minimal without Huawei forgetting the front fingerprint reader. It works perfectly.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

If we turn the smartphone over we find its distinctive sign: the dual camera. The objectives are not too big, but they stand out from the body.

The Huawei Nova 3i is thin, but the brand does not take it to the extreme.

From my point of view, the decision is right: Huawei takes the opportunity to “embed” a 3340 mAh battery. Autonomy is one of the best assets, as I will explain later in its respective section.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Excellent design without breaking the lines that make it up, power button with a delicate highlight in red, USB type-C, lower speaker and 3.5 mm jack output with stereo in combination with the call headset, the infrared sensor.

Huawei Nova 3i: Display

IPS screen of very good quality that remains calibrated as standard to enhance the colors without reaching saturation.

It looks great in all situations, even in broad daylight. Yes, I miss something more than maximum brightness, but there is no major problem outdoors.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

If the sun is direct, it is difficult to see what is on the screen.

Great level of detail with excellent contrast. The screen looks perfect in all angles and the colors do not change in hue as the viewing angles vary, at least in a very appreciable way.

The tactile response is maintained at the level of the high range and the software allows to customize from the color temperature to its representation.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

By default, it remains vivid, which is a calibration that fits the screen. The Huawei Nova 3i in our analisis includes “Read Mode” to make the screen look better at night. This mode can be adjusted in intensity and is also programmable.

The screen of the Huawei Nova 3i is of high quality and fits perfectly at the high level that keeps the entire phone.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It does not suffer from too many frames (the body reserves a little more than two millimeters from the edge) and offers a ratio of almost 19.5: 9.

Huawei Nova 3i: Hardware and Performance

At the height of the mid-range phones, that’s why Huawei puts it all in the grill with its Nova 3i.

It does not abandon its factory as it bets for its own SoC, which we had already seen in the Huawei Nova 2i or the Nova 2.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It is a mid-end processor that keeps up with the best: at no time have I appreciated any slowness or using applications or using games.

The Huawei Nova 3i chews any Android game almost as if it were butter. I have not found any lags in the titles of high graphics load nor slowness in the start of the games.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It loses a frame with a multitude of 3D elements on the screen, but nothing that does not happen with other SoCs of its level.

Great commitment to artificial intelligence without that the user appreciates it with the naked eye (beyond meeting her in the camera).

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

The Kirin 710 and its heart of neuronal processing allow the smartphone to manage tasks more effectively internally.

For example, the autonomy is growing as the mobile is used, this is something that is noticed.

The manufacturer includes SD card giving everything for internal storage up to 256GB.

Huawei Nova 3i: Software

Not all communicate with Huawei’s custom layer, EMUI. In my case, I have to start by saying that I think it is good software, even if it is extremely heavy.Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

There is no problem of space since the Huawei Nova 3i has 128 GB of storage, but you can appreciate the customization instantly.

The interface does not look anything like what we consider “Android stock”. It’s not news, it’s been like that for years.

The Huawei Nova 3i in the review part of the series with Android 8.1. It is appreciated that the manufacturer takes in series the launch of its star phone offering it as up-to-date as possible.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Huawei is one of the few that is updating its high range more or less quickly, which is why the Nova 3i has almost guaranteed the update to Android Q.

When it gets here a year and a half, of course (Google, you have it easy: Android Quesadilla ).

EMUI is also updated to the latest version, 8.1. It does not mean big differences with respect to EMUI 8.0: the aspect and options are basically the same.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

The system allows customizing from the famous notch to the order of the navigation buttons.

It also offers native application duplication (very useful for WhatsApp, for example), gestures, themes and an app store.

Huawei Nova 3i: Sound

Let’s talk about music and sound. How is the Huawei Nova 3i heard? The truth is that very well with Bluetooth headphones: I took a tremendous disappointment in matching my high-end Sennheiser.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Apart from the sound, the Huawei Nova 3i includes NFC, also infrared emitter (allows to operate the TV and other devices from the mobile).

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Also, it has dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2 compatible with the aforementioned aptX, is nano-sized dual SIM, positions fast and accurately with your GPS, it is compatible with most 4G bands worldwide and it has FM radio.

Huawei Nova 3i: Cameras

The most awaited moment of the review has arrived. As the director of a circus that comes on stage to present the star number of the lion tamer, I now talk about the Huawei Nova 3i camera in the test.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

Dual cameras on the back of the smartphone about to pounce on his photographic prey.

Is the Huawei Nova 3i the best phone to take pictures? I do not have it very clear. I have analyzed the best of last year and this 2018 and, despite the fact that the Nova 3i gets some scandalous photographs.

It does not achieve good results on all occasions. In the photographic field I would define it as “inconsistent”: sometimes it makes you a portrait to frame and others it takes an image in half-light with a remarkable loss of detail in the background.

And it is right here where the Huawei Nova 3i aims to aim: to obtain the greatest possible detail thanks to its combination of cameras, one of them with a sensor of 16-megapixels.

It is not the best pictures in all situations, but it offers unique values such as zoom, good behavior in night photos, portrait mode or video recording.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

It is somewhat random in terms of what situations and the processing should improve, but are factors that do not always affect the automatic takes.

In addition, manual mode achieves better results with a bit of skill.

Huawei Nova 3i: Battery

Speaking of autonomy implies going into the most subjective terrain of all. How does the Huawei Nova 3i behave when the USB type-C connector is removed?

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

The truth is that very well: by my tests, it is a phone that perfectly supports the daily trot. To endure mine you have to have good ability.

The Huawei Nova 3i in the test includes a 3340 mAh battery that the system manages perfectly.

The first days the smartphone spends more than when the system settles after knowing the user’s tastes.

EMUI controls applications in the background so they do not go over consumption.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

This has caused me some loss of notification without it having been recurrent: it is enough to adjust the notifications and the management of the apps.

The battery of the Huawei Nova 3i is not prodigious, but it remains at an excellent level. Add final weight to the phone and some thickness, but it is something that is always appreciated.

Huawei Nova 3i: Conclusions and Reviews

I loved the Huawei Nova 3i. A priori it is not strange since the manufacturer points to the best of the mid-range phones in our review, but we already know that the reality does not have to adjust to what was planned.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

In the case of the Huawei Nova 3i, it does adjust, although I have the feeling that Huawei could have rounded up its most emblematic phone of 2018 without too much trouble.

You have already read it throughout this review: the Huawei Nova 3i takes excellent note wherever it competes.

It is very powerful, it has a large amount of storage and the RAM stays in a good size, both are very fast.

Huawei Nova 3i Review: Four cameras and New Processor Kirin 710

The phone is also and the camera is one of the best that is currently on a smartphone. Or its cameras, that triple rear sensor gives a lot to talk, for good and also for bad.

In short: buying this phone is a sure bet, whatever the tastes of each one. Maybe it’s your turn to fight with the EMUI layer if you do not like the customizations, but you’ll end up thanking them.

Huawei Nova 3i: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

At the moment, the official price is only $250, and this is a good price for the pre-purchase of the phone. But at the moment you can buy a phone from Chinese stores for a big price, so I recommend a little wait and buy at a low price.
