After the successful release of wireless earbuds under the name CC from FIIL, the Chinese manufacturer decided to continue its line of devices and presented an updated version of FIIL CC2.
I have previously tested the TWS version of the first generation FIIL CC earbuds and was completely satisfied with them. I was also able to test the FIIL CC Pro model, which also turned out to be quite useful and interesting.
In terms of improvements, the new version of the CC2 earbuds has received a number of significant innovations. They definitely had a positive impact on both sound quality and other features, including latency and other aspects.
As for the cost, now the price tag for the FIIL CC2 earbuds made me very happy. Since at the moment the price of the device did not exceed $69.99. For comparison, the previous generation FIIL CC at the time of release cost $100, and the version with the Pro console currently costs $70.
That is, the price tag for the new version of wireless earbuds is very attractive. Therefore, I propose to go trough the main features and functions of the updated earbud model. For example, a 13.1 mm titanium diaphragm dynamic driver was installed inside the earbud housing. In addition, the device has received the latest generation of Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connection.
Other features I can attribute are good battery life, comfortable fit thanks to semi in-ear earbuds and the presence of a mobile application with various functions and settings.
Okay, I figured out the main features, but now it remains for me to check how the earbuds really showed themselves from a practical point of view. Thus, I propose to start my in-depth and detailed review now.
FIIL CC2: Specifications
|Driver unit:||13.1 mm driver|
|Bluetooth protocol:||aptx, AAC and SBC|
Unboxing and packaging
FIIL CC2 earbuds are delivered in the same packaging as the previous generation FIIL CC. It is a small box that has been made of durable cardboard material. The front of the package shows a drawing of an earbud with a charging box. There is also the name of the model and other features.
If you look at the back of the package, you can find the following information, such as fully stereo Bluetooth sound, unique design and ease of use, and much more.
Inside the package, I found the charging box itself with the earbuds, which lay separately from each other. At the bottom of the box, there was an instruction manual and a Type-C charging cable. Since these earbuds were made as semi in-ear earbuds, you will not find spare silicone ear tips here.
Otherwise, the equipment was very high quality and looked premium. Now I propose to take a closer look at the charging case itself and the earbuds and find out the main differences between the older version of the FIIL CC device.
Design, build quality and materials
It looks like the first and second generation of FIIL’s CC range has remained intact. That is, the new generation of earbuds received a completely similar design, it is the same as it was on the first generation.
The company is very proud of the appearance of the earbuds, which did not even dare to add global and minor changes to the new CC2 model.
Despite this fact, the device sat quite well in my ear canal and during my testing I did not even feel their presence. In other words, the earbuds were quite light and I could easily wear them for hours without any discomfort.
I believe the FIIL CC2 earbud model was created for everyday use. But if you plan to work out with this model in the gym, then you will not have much difficulty. While running, you may get the feeling that the earbuds will fall out of the ear canal at any time.
That being said, I also liked the build quality and the materials used. The earbuds themselves were made of matte gray plastic, but the sound guide had a matte black design.
Of course, the square section of the leg attracts special attention. On the outside of the leg you can find the company logo, touch controls and an additional hole for a noise canceling microphone. But on the upper edge there was an LED indicator. Meanwhile, at the bottom, there were two contacts and a hole for the main microphone.
Ok, now let’s talk about the charging box itself, as it has some interesting features as well. Yes, the appearance of the charging case remains completely similar to the first generation, but this does not really disappoint me.
This box does not have a hinged cover, so the earbuds will always be open with the outside world. But thanks to the strong magnet, you don’t have to worry about the FIIL CC2 earbuds accidentally falling out and lost during transport. Since a rather powerful magnet is used here, which firmly holds the earbuds in their seats of the case.
On the top of the box, you can also notice one small LED indicator that usually works while charging. By the way, the box is charged via the Type-C connection and can be found at the bottom of the case.
In addition, I liked the build quality, and especially the charging case with the presence of brushed gray aluminum stands out. This really gives the earbuds a good premium feel. Okay, now let’s talk about connection quality and other features.
Connection, latency, mobile app and control
The first and significant change that the updated version of the FIIL CC2 earbuds received was in wireless communication. Now the device uses the Bluetooth 5.2 version on board. Let me remind you that the last generation of FIIL CC had only the Bluetooth 5.0 version. This means that the signal quality is even better with the earbuds.
In fact, during my testing, the earbuds generally responded well and had no interruptions or interference.
In addition, I installed a special application called Fiil+ on my smartphone to get even more functionality of the earbuds. For example, in the main menu of the application, you can see information about the battery level of the earbuds and charging box.
In the next section, you will be able to see the equalizer settings and volume controls for music and calls. In the settings it has such sections as select the full touch control mode, the low latency mode, and reset the settings.
If we talk about the level of latency, then there was practically no latency in the CC2 earbuds. But for this, it was necessary to check the box in the mobile application with a low latency mode. After that, in games, I practically did not feel any delay and played only with complete comfort.
Now let’s talk about touch controls. Initially out of the box, the earbuds come with basic control functions. Therefore, in order to get a wide list of functions, it is necessary to check the box on the full touch control mode in the Fiil+ mobile application.
- Double-tapping makes the following functions like play, pause, accept or put a phone call.
- A single tap on the left earbud channel increases the earbud volume level, and a triple tap decreases it.
- One touch on the right earbud switches the track forward, and triple touch switches the track back.
- Holding it down for a few seconds activates the voice assistant on your smartphone.
Sound and microphone quality
Before talking about the sound quality, let’s share some information about the technical specifications. A 13.1 mm titanium diaphragm dynamic driver was installed inside the FIIL CC2 earbud housing.
If we talk about the reserve of the maximum volume level, then everything is very good in the CC2 model. For example, maximum volume levels can damage your hearing. Therefore, I do not recommend using the device with the maximum volume level.
Compared to the older version of the CC earbuds, the new generation of FIIL received a very rich and rather deep bass. Naturally, this is not so bad, because many users are looking for the perfect semi in-ear earbuds with good bass. Therefore, if you are one of those people, then the CC2 earbud model will be a good choice for you.
At the same time, the middle frequencies are a little squeezed, but the high frequencies play very well. That is, each musical instrument was well separated from the musical stream, and the vocalist’s voice was quite voluminous and clear.
In general, if comparing the sound quality between the first and second generation, then the latest version will definitely play much more pleasant and richer.
Ok, now let’s talk about the quality of the microphones. The FIIL CC2 wireless earbud model uses two microphones, where the main one was located on the bottom of the leg, and the noise canceling microphone was on the top of the leg.
At the same time, the sound quality in a quiet place was very good and the interlocutors heard me clearly. But in noisy places, the noise reduction worked 100% and the surrounding noises clearly distinguished my voice. Thus, it will not be a problem for you to communicate even in noisy and loud places.
Battery and run time
Each FIIL CC2 earbud received a negligible battery capacity of only 30 mAh. Despite this fact, the battery life on a full charge was sufficient for 4.5 hours at maximum volume.
At the same time, the charging box received a 500 mAh battery. By doing this, you can charge the earbuds several times and the total operating time will grow to 30 hours.
Another positive feature of the CC2 earbuds is the fast charging time. The earbuds themselves can play about 1.5 hours in 5 minutes of charging in the box. It took me about 45 minutes to fully charge the earbuds. Also, the charging case itself can be charged via the Type-C cable in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Definitely, the new generation of TWS earbuds FIIL CC2 has become an order of magnitude better for its older brother FIIL CC.
Of course, the appearance and design remained intact, but the technical component has changed a lot and as you can understand for the better.
The first thing I liked about the earbuds was their comfortable fit and lightweight. Also, the unusual design and specific shapes only delighted my soul. In addition, the earbuds stand out for their high-quality assembly and good manufacturing materials.
The big improvement is the wireless Bluetooth 5.2 version with support for the aptX adaptive codec. The even larger titanium diaphragm driver plays at very high volume. And most importantly, the sound quality has tight bass and good detail in high frequencies.
Of the minuses, I can single out – this is the lack of modern features. For example, there is no active noise canceling function and no transparency mode. Also, the lack of a cover on the charging box may not please every user.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Considering its low cost, I can definitely recommend the new model of TWS earbuds from FIIL for purchase. In addition, the device has become an order of magnitude better and better in comparison with its older brother.
Now you can buy a new model of FIIL CC2 earbuds at a very low price for only $69.99 with a 10% discount. Therefore, if you were looking for semi in-ear gaming earbuds with an interesting design, then the CC2 model will be a sufficient choice.
