ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The ENZ X36U laptop in our review is one of the most interesting notebooks ENZ currently has in its range. At first glance, this offers a good mix of performance, especially for games, and yet decent portability.

Of course, this notebook is extremely interesting for students and students alike.

But of course the gaming laptop ENZ X36U is not a bargain at around $1000, so only good technical data is not enough.

The notebook also has to convince as far as the processing, display, battery, and input devices are concerned. Does this make the ENZ X36U? Let’s find out in the test!

ENZ X36U: Design and Appearance

The laptop ENZ X36U in our test is a “semi-compact” gaming notebook. This relies on a 15.6-inch display and a not overly thick case. It is indeed even thinner, for example, with a Razer Blade, but with 2.6KG, the ENZ X36U is still quite suitable to be transported daily to school or university.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The dimensions of 55.00 x 38.00 x 15.00 cm are not overly large for a 15.6-inch notebook. Although ENZ does not use a display with an ultra-narrow frame, like Dell does with the XPS, it does not use any prominent coolers like the Alienware or some Asus notebooks.

By and large, I would call the design of the notebook classic. For the material, ENZ uses plastic, which has been refined on the lid as well as in the interior with brushed aluminum.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

I would call the optics positive from the outside. I think the ENZ X36U lends itself very well to the scale from a professional look, but with a few red accents was spiced up something without looking “Gamer Like”.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

When unfolded, the whole thing looks a little different. Here the optics are a bit more playful and more in the gamer direction. This is mainly due to the red lighting as well as the labeling of the keyboard, which uses a slightly more conspicuous font.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Qualitatively, the ENZ X36U feels very good! The notebook makes a robust and high-quality impression. Only the bottom looks a bit plastic, here you notice the ENZ on the underside much less value, has than on the top, which is quite understandable.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Of course, there is still some air in the feel, the ENZ X36U is not an Apple MacBook. In return, there will be hopefully also the right performance.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The connections of the notebook look pretty good. On the left side, you will find an SD card reader, a USB 3.0 port, the connection for the power supply as well as a LAN port. The latter fits very close to the height of the device.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

On the back is next to various fan outlets a lonely mini Displayport connection. The right side is again busier. Here is an HDMI output, audio ports for headphones and microphones, another two USB 3.0 port.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

I am quite satisfied with the connections, I think, the existing ports are easy to handle in everyday life.

ENZ X36U: Display

The ENZ X36U in analisis relies on a 15.6 inch Full HD display. This is a matte IPS panel.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

This offers reasonable value for the price. Viewing angles are typically suitable for IPS, and I would also rate colors and contrasts as good.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Even the maximum brightness is neat! Although I would not praise the ENZ X36U as an “outdoor” notebook, a little sun on the screen is not a problem.

ENZ X36U: Hardware and Performance

As usual, the gaming laptop ENZ X36U comes in a variety of configurations. These differ from the CPU and the memory configuration. RAM and GPU, however, seems to be the same for all versions.

This is not bad because the RAM is sufficiently large with 16GB and the GPU is with the Radeon RX560 with 16GB of RAM also a decent caliber.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

For the CPU you have the Intel Core i7-7700HQ. Of course, the 7700HQ is the good option and basically to be preferred.

Let’s start with a few benchmarks.

The gaming laptop ENZ X36U performs just as you would expect from a notebook with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ and RX560.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The Core i7-7700HQ is currently the fastest processor that can be found regularly in notebooks, as it shows. Whether for gaming or video editing, photo editing is not more in “normal” notebooks. Of course, there are a handful of models here, which are equipped with desktop CPUs, but we do not count these times.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The RX560 also performs very well in benchmarks, but what about in practice?

Of course, the ENZ X36U in analisis is aimed primarily at gamers, so let’s take a look at a few gaming benchmarks.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The combination of Intel Core i7-7700HQ and Radeon RX560 is currently the optimum for Full HD Gaming. You can currently put all games on “Ultra” quality and you will at least 30FPS, usually rather 60FPS see.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Battlefield One reached an average frame rate of 70FPS with Full HD resolution and “Ultra” quality in the single player, The Witcher 3 also at maximum quality and Full HD of 52 FPS and Mass Effect Andromeda of almost exactly 50FPS.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

I would definitely call these values good! In the usual ESport titles like Overwatch, good three-digit FPS values are achieved.

So with the ENZ X36U, you’ll be well equipped in the future as far as gaming is concerned, and in the medium term, you will not have to downplay details all the way, even if games demand even more.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Let’s come to a point that surprised me a lot, namely the SSD. In my, ENZ X36U is a 128GB SSD and a 1TB HDD installed.

The ENZ X36U laptop is a pretty fast SSD with around 475MB/s reading and 260MB/s writing!

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The HDD comes from Hitachi and is a “standard” 1TB 2.5 inch HDD.

The volume of the laptop ENZ X36U surprised me positively. At idle, the notebook is almost completely silent, only the HDD is minimally audible. The fans can, therefore, be completely switched off when idling. However, when surfing the web, installing programs, etc. it can also happen that the fans start.

If this is the case, the notebook produces a low hum, which I would still classify as unproblematic.

Under gaming load, the “whirring” gets louder. As befits a compact gaming notebook, the ENZ X36U is not quiet either. However, this is not super loud, a Razer Blade is, for example, a good deal louder.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

In addition, the fan noise of ENZ is quite unobtrusive, so less shrill, but a little darker.

What about temperatures? At first glance, okay, the GPU settles at around 80-84 degrees and the CPU at full load at 82-88 degrees.

Unfortunately, the CPU cannot quite keep its turbo-clock and throttles easily. Easy means the CPU settles at around 2.6-3.5GHz. Incidentally, it helps to set the fan profile to turbo to get the 3.5GHz, in Auto mode, the CPU usually settles at 3.0GHz.

ENZ X36U: Software

ENZ uses the classic on Windows 10 Home. Accordingly, there are few surprises here, just as far as pre-installed programs are concerned.

Although I would not call ENZ a negative example, I do not think a notebook manufacturer has more of its own tools preinstalled on their device.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The latter is due to the cooperation between ENZ and SteelSeries for the keyboard of the notebook. The SteelSeries Engine 3 can be used to repack all the keys on the notebook, create macros and also control the keyboard illumination.

Unlike many other gaming notebooks, there are not only two modes, “Silent” and “Performance”, but also a custom mode, which allows you to create a fairly simple fan curve according to the motto “If XY grade then fans XY percent performance”.

By the way, around 105GB of the 128GB SSD was still available from the house and 1TB of HDD Storage Capacity.

ENZ X36U: Keyboard and trackpad

New gaming laptop ENZ X36U in first impressions uses a keyboard developed by SteelSeries. SteelSeries is a big name in the input device sector, so it sounds pretty promising.

How does it look like? Is the keyboard of the ENZ X36U good? Basically yes!

The keys have a crisp pressure point and generally feel very good. The print depth is less flat than many super-compact notebooks, but not too long either.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The entire keyboard also feels very nice and tight. Even with a lot of pressure, the keypad hardly gives way to anything.

Therefore, I would basically make a recommendation for all lots of tipsters, if there were not the layout!

The ENZ X36U uses an American keyboard layout.

Of course it is not impossible to write well with this keyboard, in fact, this layout has its advantages, but it needs some familiarization.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The keyboard background lighting is red, not RGB, but nice and bright.

The trackpad also surprised me positively. This provides reliable tracking, even while using two hands at the same time.

Generally, I would rate the trackpad among the better on the market. Only the truck resistance for the mouse click is a bit high, but that’s probably a matter of getting used to.

ENZ X36U: Speakers and audio

First of all, the ENZ X36U laptop in our test gets points for the very proper audio software, which gives a really good control over all audio settings.

Here you can activate a bass boost, virtual surround sound, boosting highs etc.

Unfortunately, the speakers in the ENZ X36U really are not the yellow of the egg. I would say these provide the minimum, what you can expect in a notebook of this price range.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

The two speakers are mounted on the front of the notebook and sound a bit thin and powerless. Even the maximum volume is not outstanding.

Certainly, some will now say “what can you expect from a notebook ?!” Of course, you are right in that, but even a Dell XPS 13, an ultrabook, offers a much louder and fuller sound. Therefore, it should have been possible for ENZ to give the X36U a bit more sound.

After all, the important headphone jack, as well as the microphone input, is very neat! Even larger headsets sound very good on the ENZ X36U in analisis, so the rather mediocre speakers are forgiven.

ENZ X36U: Battery

The ENZ X36U has 4000mAh battery and is primarily a gaming notebook, so of course, a very good battery life is not so essential.

However, the notebook is still quite portable. So how long does the battery last if you really want to use the MSI on the move?

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

In normal everyday use, so office, web browsing, Youtube, etc., I reached a battery life of about 4.5-5 hours. I reached this battery runtime at about 40% brightness, with a higher brightness the runtime drops to about 3.5-4 hours.

If you really want to squeeze the maximum out of the notebook, 5.5 hours would probably be the absolute maximum. If you have a pure SSD version will probably be the battery life also a few minutes higher.

ENZ X36U: Conclusions and Reviews

The gaming notebook ENZ X36U in our review is without a doubt the best ENZ notebook I have ever had in my hands.

Notebooks are generally mostly a compromise, how much power are you willing to sacrifice for compact size and portability? Are you ready to give up a lot of power? Then grab an Apple MacBook, you want the maximum performance?

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

Most users do not want extreme, but a healthy mix. This combination of gaming performance and a healthy level of portability is offered by the ENZ X36U.

The notebook is neither overly large nor overly heavy at 2.6KG but offers plenty of power with the Intel Core i7-7700HQ and Radeon RX560. Current games can be played on Full HD resolution and “Ultra” details almost continuously with 60FPS. Only a handful of current games comes “only” at 30-40FPS, mind you with maximum details.

However, this performance is no surprise, the same will be the case with most notebooks with a similar CPU + GPU combination. Positive is the ENZ X36U’s temperatures and volume. Although the temperatures are not “perfect” but significantly better than you know it from, for example, a Razer Blade or other super portable devices ago.

ENZ X36U Review: Gaming Laptop with Intel Core i7 and RX560 for Low Price 2017

At the volume of the notebook, I have hardly anything to complain about. When idling, the fans are switched off and they remain in a “normal” frame even under load.

Add to that the good display, the useful battery life, and the solid workmanship. The two built-in storage media, an SSD + HDD, allow a slightly greater storage flexibility than comparable devices. What did not I like about the ENZ X36U? Basically, these are just two points.

In summary, the gaming laptop ENZ X36U cuts a fine figure, even apart from pure computing power. This is a notebook for gamers, which is not a big and overly heavy block. I can really imagine this for students who need a device for the school, but want to gamble on it at home.

ENZ X36U: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

Therefore, I think the price of around $1000 is appropriate for ENZ X36U! Just now you can buy for really low price $999.99 on GearBest online store for free shipping.
