Asus has announced in the US the market launch of its 15-inch laptop Asus VivoBook S510 presented to Computex 2017. With an overall height of just 1.8 centimeters, the device offers a balanced equipment that is almost at the level of premium ultrabooks but costs only about 700 US dollars.
The Taiwanese manufacturer Asus is now launching a 15-inch notebook with a 1.8-centimeter flat chassis as part of the Computex 2017 in May. The device is not intended to serve the premium segment, but rather more cost-conscious customers appeal. In the US, the device can be purchased at prices as low as 699 US dollars.
Asus VivoBook S510: Specifications
The industrial design of the 1.5-kilogram lightweight VivoBook S510 is to be described as appealing, but largely unspectacular. Asus chose Metallic Gold for its color scheme and installed a 15.6-inch panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 7.8-millimeter wide mount. Thus, the device is the first notebook of the manufacturer in this price class with so-called “NanoEdge” display.
In the case of the VivoBook S510 plug-in components, which could be installed mainly in a current premium Ultrabook. The notebook is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor (dual-core) of the 7th generation and can be equipped with 8 gigabytes of DDR4-2133 RAM as well as a 1 Terabyte hard drive – plus 128 gigabytes SATA3 SSD in the 100 US dollar more expensive model variant – come up. In addition, the chassis has a 42 Wh battery, an SD card reader and even a Windows Hello-compatible fingerprint scanner.
For wireless communication, the Asus device supports 2 × 2 Wi-Fi according to 802.11ac standard and Bluetooth 4.2. External interfaces include a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type C and a USB 3.1 Type A port, as well as two USB 2.0 Type A ports and one HDMI port. Thanks to Fast Charging technology, the laptop battery should be recharged from 0 to 60 percent in just 50 minutes. Windows 10 Home is preinstalled as an operating system.
Asus VivoBook S510: Price and Available
In the US online store of Asus, the new VivoBook S510 with Core i7-7200U and 1 Terabyte hard disk can be ordered for 699 US dollars. The 799 US dollar expensive second configuration is waiting with Core i7-7500U and 128 gigabytes of SSD plus 1 Terabyte of HDD.
At the moment it is unfortunately not yet known when and in which version the manufacturer will sell the laptop also here. However, we expect an early market start in Europe.
