ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

China tablets are dozens on the market in 2018. Most of them are very similar, Intel KabyLake, 8GB of RAM, 13.3 inch display and around $500 in 2018.

Even the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 looks “ordinary” at first glance. However, this one has an ace up his sleeve. The tablet has an Intel M3-7Y30, this is a comparatively strong processor, which should quite well fuel the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in our review.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Design and Appearance

The ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in our analisis is a comparatively large and heavy tablet. I would say smoothly that this is on iPad level in terms of weight and perceived mass.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

For the use to hold it in the hand, the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 is therefore only partially suitable, at least not for long and not just with one hand.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

But ALLDOCUBE offers a keyboard dock, more on this later.

The tablet has an aluminum backside except for a plastic strip on the top. This hides the antennas for WLAN, Bluetooth etc.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

The whole tablet seems solid enough and sturdily built. Of course, the front is taken up by the 13.3 inch 2K display.

This has the classic 16: 9 form factor. Unlike many other tablets, the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in the test is also clearly designed for landscape mode. While it is somewhat strange that the tablet has two speakers and both are on the right side, this probably leaves more room for the connectors on the left side.

Here, the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 has a power supply connector, a USB Type-C port and a headphone and DC Jacks, also here is microSD card slot.

Unfortunately it is not possible to load the Cube Mix Plus via USB C. You have to use the separate power adapter plug (12V).

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

The power button and volume rocker are located on the top of the tablet. On the bottom there is only a dock connector.

A keyboard dock is available for the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8. This costs about $50 and offers next to the keyboard a trackpad and two USB 2.0 ports.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

This is a “massive” dock with a real notebook hinge.

Unfortunately, as usual, the keyboard dock is only available with the American qwerty layout.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

I think the biggest problem of the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 is unfortunately the weight and the size. With keyboard dock, the tablet is quite a chunk about 1.04kg in 2018!

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Display

The ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in first look has a 13.3 inch 2K display with 2560 by 1440 resolution. This is to be called neat! Sharpness is good so far, the same applies to contrasts and the color representation.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

However, my KNote 8 tends to a slightly green tint, which is not bad.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the maximum brightness, which is comparatively strong in 2018.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

Nevertheless, I would recommend the tablet for outdoor use only to a limited extent (the display reflects very strongly).

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Hardware and Performance

This tablet ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 uses the more powerful 1.0GHz Intel Kaby Lake Core M3-7Y30 Dual Core.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

The M3-7Y30 is supported by 8GB of RAM. But how fast is the Intel M3 really? Let’s look at a few benchmarks.

I think it should not be the big surprise that the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in the test is not a “racing machine”.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

While it does offer quite a bit more power than an Intel Atom X5 tablet, it is still a long way from the “top” of the food chain.

What I noticed in the benchmarks is a fairly high heating of the tablet. Under permanent load, the area below the switch will be so hot that it may be uncomfortable to touch the tablet here.

In normal everyday use, web browsing, video viewing, office, etc. this is of course no problem.

Here, the tablet reacts and runs pleasingly fast and smoothly! Of course, games are only possible to a very limited extent on the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

2D games are usually no problem just like older 3D games. Also things like Minecraft (with the Life in the Woods Mod Pack) run with 20-30FPS, so quite playable. The same applies to League of Legends or CS GO, provided the level of detail is adjusted (ie low).

Another point that surprised me very much is the memory. Feeling is soldered in most of the 2 in 1 China Tablets internally just a slightly better SD memory card, not so here. ALLDOCUBE relies on a M.2 SATA SSD, which of course can not be replaced, but provides usable speeds accordingly.

Reading I was able to measure 475MB/s and write 192MB/s. Writing is still some air up, but reading looks very good in 2018!

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

In practice, these high read speeds lead to fast startup times of programs and even Windows 10 itself.

Somewhat less positive is the WLAN. Although the wireless module supports 2.4GHz, as well as 5GHz, but the pace is rather moderate. When using 2.4GHz, I reached a maximum of 30Mbits and when using 5GHz around 60Mbits.

In practice, sufficient for Netflix and Co., however, who transfers data, many data on the local network, will need to bring some patience.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Software

The ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 is classic on Windows 10 in the home version. Interestingly, the operating system was already set up by default.

I suspect this is due to the China version of the OS, which must be activated once in Asia so that it works well with us. After all, the Windows on the tablet seems to be original.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

Cube also does without preinstalling any “bonus” software. Accordingly, the free memory with 234GB (of 256GB) is also quite large.

A dual boot system is not available here.

By default, Windows is in English, but can be switched to another any languages.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Input devices

As already mentioned, the keyboard dock is an optional accessory! The keyboard offers the normal American QWERTY layout. But the keyboard is excellent off the layout! The keys provide a very nice and firm pressure point.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

Typing is really fun on the keyboard!

The touchpad, however, is a less fun affair. This is okay so far and the tracking is not bad. However, very often simple tap is recognized as a click or gesture. In short, it is usable, but not the yellow of the egg.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

The integrated touchscreen works pretty much as expected.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Speaker

The ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in our review has two speakers on the right side. How do they sound?

Well, the real thing is not the speakers. They are “okay” but worse than most smartphone speakers.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

You get a very clear but very thin sound, which is comparatively quiet even at 100%.

The headphone output is so far okay. Here the tablet sits on a standard Realtek sound chip.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Battery

The ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 has a 4000mAh battery in 2018. This is not much, especially for a China tablet, which otherwise sports gigantic batteries. This in combination with the Intel Core M3 does not necessarily provide for the best battery life.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

In normal office mode, I was able to reach about 5-6 hours of battery life. If various programs run in the background and the display brightness is high, the runtime can also drop to 3-4 hours.

Under full load, however, the battery simply melts away. Much more than an hour is hardly possible under full load.

But what bothers me much more than the rather mediocre battery life is the charging. This is only possible via a 12V power supply and not via the USB C port. This costs a good deal of flexibility.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Conclusions and Reviews

There are many positive as well as negative points with the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 in our reviews. Let’s start with the positive points, the biggest ones here would be the display, the keyboard, the case and the power.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 Review: Creative 2-in-1 Tablet with 2K Display 2018

The 13.3 inch 2K Display looks good! This ensures a pleasant consumption of media, videos, etc., provided you use headphones! As good as the display is, so moderate are the speakers!

For users who are interested in an office/productive operation, there is the keyboard cover. I am very satisfied with this. The pressure point of the buttons is great and the hinge also makes a good impression. The trackpad is not the best, but not bad either.

I think the biggest plus is certainly the M3-7Y30. The performance of the tablet is right and is well above what you know from the various Intel Atom tablets. This is not only due to the M3-7Y30 but also to the rather fast built SSD.

So if you are concerned with performance, you are right here.

Unfortunately, I can only recommend the ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 conditionally. The problem here is something the target audience. You are looking for a powerful tablet? Well that’s the KNote 8, but it’s also big and heavy and the battery life is moderate.

ALLDOCUBE KNote 8: Price and Where to buy cheaper?

Now the new tablet ALLDOCUBE KNote 8 just appeared on sale and you can already buy it at an attractive and low price for $529.99 with free shipping. So the price is interesting and the specification of the tablet is good, also it makes sense to think about it in 2018.

Hello! Thanks for the great review of a potentially great tablet. Did you take a look at the BIOS?
I was interested to know if full features are available, such as changing CPU power mode for a extended turbo boost.
