Portable projectors – a very special thing, and the requirements for them are made based on the scope of their application, namely – the rapid deployment of a relatively large screen in “marching conditions,” i.e.
First of all, these are presentations in rooms that were not originally intended for this purpose. Roughly speaking: “took out a laptop, connected the projector, sent it to the wall and launched PowerPoint”. It is for such purposes that the Alfawise X 3200 projector in our review is designed 2018.
Alfawise X 3200: Packaging
The package includes the projector Alfawise X 3200 itself, Remote Controller, an external power supply, a rag cover for convenient transportation, a multi-format video cable, an adapter for connecting USB devices, a cable for connecting to a laptop via USB and a user’s manual.
Alfawise X 3200: Design and Appearance
The projector Alfawise X 3200 in our analisis is small in size (approximately like a stack of 3-4 CDs), the top and side faces are metal, the bottom and the front/back panels are plastic.
At the top are the control buttons (switching on, selecting the video input, calling and navigating through the menus).
Only the power connector and Kensington lock are found behind the back – all connectors are located on the side, which can create some inconvenience, especially when connecting a video cable.
In addition to the combined video input, there is an EzLink connector (a proprietary Alfawise X solution for connecting displays via a conventional USB port) and an SD card reader.
The projector Alfawise X 3200 in the test is on four rubberized legs and almost does not slip on a smooth surface.
In addition, there is a folding foot on the lower edge, which allows you to change the angle of the projector and raise the projected image higher.
Alfawise X 3200: Menu
To control the projector of Alfawise X 3200 in 2018, there are five buttons located on the top plane (it is not equipped with a remote control). Buttons are mechanical, are on the same level with the case and do not stand out against the background, which makes it impossible to control the projector blindly.
Considering that they are not illuminated in any way (except for the power button), it is not very convenient to control the operation of the projector in a darkened room.
In addition, the buttons are pretty tight, so when you press them, the projector’s body is barely noticeably shifted, which causes the image to shift on the screen.
The menu itself is compact, it covers only a small part of the image. With it, you can change the brightness/contrast, select one of the pre-set Splendid modes, differ mainly in brightness and color temperature (Standard, Dynamic, Game, Theater, Scenery, Whiteboard, Blackboard).
For VGA-connection, it is possible to start automatic image adjustment for a signal. Also in the menu, you can manually compensate for the trapezoid distortion of the picture, turn on the economy mode of the lamp, select the aspect ratio (16: 9, 4: 3, auto), and indicate the position of the projector relative to the screen (front / rear, desk / ceiling).
Alfawise X 3200: Color rendering
The Alfawise X 3200 has several factory color settings. The first gallery below shows the difference between the two. The closest thing to the ideal setting is “Cinema”. In “Vivid TV” added a little redder, and in “Sport” – yellow.
Setting “Bright” is probably intended for presentations in brightly lit rooms, so it has a lot of brightness, but the color is not very natural.
We emphasize that the quality of the factory setting “Cinema” does not cause censures and does not require additional corrections.
We also add that despite the desire to minimize the price of this model, BenQ did not simplify the menu of color settings and it is presented in this professional project in full professional volume in three parameters for each main and intermediate colors.
In addition, for particularly desperate fans of improving the skills of color adjustment, a special menu item “return to factory settings” is provided.
Alfawise X 3200: Cooling system noise
In the brightest mode, acceptable and not intrusive in tone (there are no high frequencies). In the reduced brightness mode is practically not noticeable.
Alfawise X 3200: In the work
It uses LED light technology, the light source is RGB-LEDs. The resolution of the matrix is 1280×800 pixels (the aspect ratio is 16:9), the declared amount of the light flux is 3200 lumens (which puts it in the middle between quite pocket “pico projectors” and full-fledged portable projectors with a light flux of one thousand or more ANSI lumens ).
The video source is connected to the projector via a special combined cable, on which there is a composite and VGA input. Actually, this is the main drawback of this projector – neither HDMI nor DVI in it, which seriously limits the scope of its application.
In addition, the projector can be used without connecting to a PC – just write the necessary content on the SD-card and insert it into the card reader, then when you select the appropriate input, a special browser will launch, in which you can open not only photos (JPG, BMP, PNG) but also video (AVI, MOV, MP4, 3gp, FLV) to play music (APE, MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC) and even view office documents (TXT, PDF, PowePoint, Excel, Word).
Alfawise X 3200 is designed for small rooms, so it can create a relatively large image from a short distance – for example, from a distance of 1 m diagonal screen is about 40″.
It should also be noted that the projector does not have a zoom function – the focal length of it is fixed, as a result of which you can change the screen size only by moving the projector closer or further to the wall.
The “operating range” of this model is from 50 cm to 3 meters, while the diagonal of the image varies from 20 to 200 inches.
The image of Alfawise X 3200 in our review is focused with a ring on the lens, it rotates gently and allows you to quickly and accurately get a sharp picture.
The image is projected not directly, but upwards at a slight angle – the lower part of the picture is approximately at the level of the projector lens, so it is not necessary to place it on the edge of the table or point upwards.
The projector of Alfawise X 3200 turns on quickly (~ 5 seconds) and is immediately ready for use. When connected to VGA, the image was clear enough, the small text was read without problems.
When you look at the image, the diagonal structure of the image formed with the help of micromirrors becomes closely visible, however, at an ordinary distance from which the viewer looks at the screen, this is almost not noticeable and the perception of the image does not affect in any way.
The image quality is quite high, the colors are natural. In bright areas, the details are clearly visible in halftones, for better display of dark areas it is necessary to completely darken the room, otherwise, the picture will seem somewhat faded.
Chromatic aberrations are minimal and appear only in the corners of the image. To view the photo, Scenery mode will be optimal, presentations look better in Standard mode. No problems with the unevenness of sharpness or brightness were noted.
Alfawise X 3200: Conclusions and Reviews
Alfawise X 3200 in our reviews is the portable projector, primarily designed for “mobile presentations”, and with this task, he is doing well in 2018.
The brightness of this model is more than sufficient for a shaded room of medium size, the noise level of the cooling system is just below the average.
The image quality, in this case, is quite sufficient not only for presentations and diagrams but also for viewing photo/video.
The presence of a card reader allows you to carry out presentations without connecting to a laptop or PC, although the convenience of playback control leaves much to be desired.
The presence of built-in speakers allows you to do without additional acoustics, although the quality of sound, for obvious reasons, can not be said.
