AGM focuses on the production of rugged devices only. Basically, this brand produces products for mobile devices from the budget to the premium segment of smartphones. Today I am reviewing an inexpensive rugged phone called the AGM H3.
The H3 reminds me of the Hummer car name. But is such a new device model from AGM not killable? Let’s dive into all the details in the full review below.
As I said, the price tag for the AGM H3 smartphone is very attractive. For example, you can currently buy the device for as little as $150. As for this smartphone, this is a good price.
Therefore, let me briefly tell you what the AGM H3 smartphone was assembled from. The first thing that AGM can boast in its new budget smartphone is the presence of a touch-sensitive infrared night vision sensor with a 13 megapixel resolution. Also on board the smartphone is a 5.7-inch screen with HD + resolution.
In addition, the rugged smartphone was equipped with a budget processor Mediatek Helio P22 has 4 and 64 GB of internal memory. At the same time, a smartphone under Android OS version 11 is controlled and there is a built-in 5400 mAh battery. Naturally, as with most rugged devices, the new model from AGM also received an NFC module.
Okay, technically speaking, the AGM H3 didn’t look so bad. But let’s look at its strengths and weaknesses in order to see if the new model of a rugged smartphone is worth your attention or not.

Unboxing and packaging
I’m usually used to the fact that Chinese brands of rugged smartphones ship their products in large packages. But this did not affect the AGM H3 model. A relatively compact and standard-sized box came to my review. It was not made of the highest quality cardboard material, and the equipment itself was made very budgetary.
For example, inside the package I found the smartphone itself, which in turn was covered with a protective film on the screen. Also, the package included instructions for use, a needle for a SIM tray, a Type-C cable and a 10W power adapter. In addition, I discovered the presence of an adapter from Type-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack.
At first glance, the impressions were not the best from unpacking. Although the equipment itself was very good and there was everything necessary for the full use of a rugged device.
Design, build quality and materials
The rugged AGM H3 smartphone was made from a combination of two colors – black and orange. In addition, orange is not the main color, but is used as decorative elements.
In addition, I liked the thickness of the device, which did not exceed 13 mm, and the weight of the model was about 240 grams. In this case, the dimensions of the smartphone were 162 x 76 x 13 mm. In fact, using the smartphone for its intended purpose was very comfortable when compared with other protected devices. But if we compare the usability with an ordinary smartphone, then using the new generation AGM H3 will not be a very comfortable occupation.
It is not surprising that the weight of the smartphone was almost 240 grams, since the rugged device must be properly protected from drops, water and dust. Therefore, there is protection against all troubles under the IP68/IP69K standard, and even MIL-STD-810H US military standard is present.
During my testing, I didn’t really try to kill the device. But I submerged it a couple of times in water and even shot it from a height of 1 meter. After my modest tests, the smartphone worked as well as before. Yes, maybe I could have done tougher tests, but I understand that breaking a smartphone is easy, even a protected one is very easy. Therefore, my tests were relative and not very strict.
As for the materials of manufacture, almost the entire body was made of durable plastic. It reminded me of rubber, but I think it uses an alloy of plastic and rubber in some ratio. In addition, all corners were also protected from falls and other annoyances. The build quality was also good, but I can highlight the drawback of not particularly smooth pressing of the control buttons.
If you look at the right side of the AGM H3 smartphone, then you can find the power button and the volume rocker. At the same time, on the left side, there is a slot for dual nano SIM cards or one nano SIM cards and a microSD memory card. There is also an orange button near the memory card slot for quick access to various functions. Meanwhile, a Type-C port for charging or a headphone adapter was installed on the bottom end under the plug.
You may ask me where the main speaker is located? And it was installed on the bottom of the screen frame. The manufacturer guarantees that it uses a powerful 2W speaker, which will be the loudest of all smartphones by almost 97%. In practice, the speaker really does not play so badly and there was enough headroom in terms of volume. But the sound quality was not the most premium.
I can also highlight quite large frames around the screen. Therefore, the AGM H3 device does not look modern, but usually rugged devices are not famous for the minimum frame values. Meanwhile, on the top frame of the screen, you can find the earpiece and various sensors such as proximity, lights and others.
Ok, but on the back of the H3 smartphone, there are three camera modules with an infrared sensor and a dual LED flash. In addition, there is a fingerprint scanner just below the main island of the camera modules. Perhaps this is not the most convenient location, but in practice the scanner worked quite accurately and without false clicks. Okay, I figured out the appearance, now I propose to talk about the quality of the screen and its features.
Screen and image quality
By today’s standards, a 5.7-inch screen isn’t much. But do not forget again that this is a rugged device, so the small screen for this category of smartphones is not a big problem.
At the same time, the screen resolution was only HD + resolution or 720 x 1440 pixels. As for the small screen size, the pixel density was within the normal range. That is, I did not see individual pixels and the picture was clear and crystal clear.
In general, the use of an IPS matrix will allow you to enjoy a bright and rich picture. Yes, this is not an AMOLED or OLED screen, but the picture of the screen image was also not the worst. The color gamut was with realistic and vivid colors and I did not reveal any special problems with the quality of the screen.
In the screen settings, you could find useful eye protection features, dark mode, and even settings for choosing a color scheme. Considering its low cost, I was completely satisfied with the quality of the screen.
Performance, benchmarks, games and OS
The ultra-budget Mediatek Helio P22 chipset is responsible for the performance of the AGM H3 smartphone. It has eight Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. I cannot call this processor new, since it was introduced back in 2018. Its technology was built on a 12 nanometer process.
As for the benchmark tests, in the modern AnTuTu test, the device scored about 110 thousand points. This is a very weak indicator, as for 2021. You can also see other benchmark tests in the album below.
If you want to play games, then games like PUBG Mobile or Call of Duty Mobile started easily for me. But in fact, the device was problematic to cope with heavy games. Yes, I managed to launch them and even play them, but sometimes there were delays and the quality of the graphics was, of course, the lowest. At the same time, the AGM H3 smartphone did not heat up very much and during heavy processor heating was within normal limits.
Inside the case of the device was built in 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. This is not a particularly bad amount of memory, but if the built-in memory is low, then you can easily use one of the memory card slots. At the same time, the read and write speed of the built-in memory did not stand out much and amounted to about 270 MBps read speed and 205 MBps write speed.
Wirelessly, the smartphone was equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 version and a dual-band Wi-Fi module. Also on board the device was a GPS and an NFC module. I was very happy to see that the contactless payment module was present, even on such a budget rugged smartphone. In general, all the sensors worked properly and I did not reveal any special problems during my testing.
A new model of the protected AGM H3 device is controlled under the Android 11 operating system. The user interface has received many useful applications including Google applications. At the same time, the performance of the user interface was an order of magnitude better than the performance in games. All processes went smoothly and without major delays.
Camera and sample photos
Three camera sensors were installed on the back of the AGM H3 smartphone. Where the main module got 12 megapixel resolution. The second module with 2 megapixel resolution was used for macro photography. The last sensor most interesting to me is a 13-megapixel module for infrared night shooting.
Examples of photos taken with AGM H3 you can see in the album below. From myself, I can note that the main 12-megapixel sensor was capable of taking photos with good detail and color gamut, but only in good lighting. In poor light, the quality of photographs dropped quite significantly and there was a lot of noise.
At the same time, the infrared night vision sensor performed well, but observing good detail in distant objects will be problematic or even impossible.
On the front of the body is a front-facing camera with an 8-megapixel resolution. During my testing, I would like to get a little better selfie quality than AGM’s device does.
Therefore, from this I can conclude that the quality of the photos will be good in good and bright lighting. Thus, I cannot call the cameras a strong point for the protected AGM H3 smartphone.
Battery and run time
Considering that the AGM H3 smartphone uses a small screen size with HD resolution, it will be possible to expect strong battery life. For example, a 5400 mAh battery was used inside the case of a rugged smartphone.
This battery capacity was enough to fully use the device for two days. The result in the benchmark test was about 8.5 hours with the screen on.
This is not the worst result, but to be honest, I would like to see a result here for about 10 hours of screen on or even more. Do not forget that this is a rugged device and it is bought for hiking or traveling, where it is usually problematic to charge a smartphone.
That being said, a full charge via a 10W power adapter took me about 3.5 hours of my time over a Type-C connection.
Conclusion, reviews, pros and cons
Considering the cost of the new rugged AGM H3 smartphone, I can definitely recommend the device for purchase. But also do not forget that the smartphone has a number of minor flaws, but about them a little later.
As for the merits, the smartphone received a good design using fairly high-quality materials in the manufacture. In addition, I liked the build quality and the full protection from water, falls and other troubles.
The device also received an interesting infrared sensor module for night shooting. There is also the latest version of the Android operating system and even a decent 5,400 mAh battery.
On the downside, I can relate to this small screen with a size of 5.7 inches. I also didn’t really like the performance of benchmarks and games. The smartphone also does not stand out for high-quality photos and has a rather long charging time.
Price and where to buy cheaper?
Now the price tag for the AGM H3 mobile device is very tempting, which was only $149.99 with a good discount.
Therefore, if you need an inexpensive smartphone, but at the same time so that it is fully protected, then the option from the AGM manufacturer will be a good choice.
